I bought two intrepids with water pump issues. the 02 I bought I just rebuild the motor because the water pump leaked into the oil and spun all the bearings and bent all the rods. The second one I just did heads and timing set and gaskets. These arent that hard to work on. I use synthetic blend and change it every 3000 miles and inside the motor still looks nice and clean with no carbon. The only problem I had in both cars was the timing chain tensioner not having enough tension and suck back in. I only get noise when the engine is heated up and it sounds awful. My recommendation is not to use the chinese tensioners as the check valves in them are not always good. I bought 5 total between the two cars.

Thanks for you comment and sorry to hear about your trouble! The timing chain will not cause any squealing noises. That could be a belt, power steering pump, etc. When you say water is dripping from a "grid like thing are you referring to the radiator? If you have milky oil then its very likely the head gaskets are leaking, or the pump is shot. Based on your description the car needs to be diagnosed further do determine the best move here. I will tell you this. If the engine was overheated excessively, i would certainly consider replacing it instead of repair. Thanks again and thumbs up is greatly appreciated.

About how much does it Cost to Replace water Pump on my 2008 300 2.7 , and should I replace timing chain too?? Is their a way to clean some of the sludge on motor or no?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow7 жыл бұрын
Jessie Urge a shop will typically charge around 600 - $800 to complete this job. as far as replacing the timing chain goes, it would really depend on how many miles your engine has and what condition the chain / guides are in. I would recommend at least replacing the tensioner though since they are failure prone. I do not recommend cleaning all the sludge out unless you're going to just pick out some of the big chunks and areas. Once you start disturbing that stuff you're going to be in for a world of trouble in the future. In my years of working on engines I have found that it's best to just leave it where it is. thanks for the comment and if the video helped you out some give it a like. thanks

I can’t get my timing chain cover off, and it’s such a pain in the ass, thank you for the video it’s got me as far as I’ve gotten, but I’m missing something, I took out 12 bolts I read 11 is all that’s needed, so now I’m lost, I’ve read that there are potentially bolts from the oil pan into the bottom timing chain cover? But I can’t find em, I’m so confused, is it absolutely necessary to take the valve covers off also and spark plugs to get access to bottom timing chain cover? I’ve been searching for the answer for 2-3 weeks now to no avail im worried about prying it off, cuz there’s no room or leverage without causing damage to the block or pulleys, does anyone understand this?

Would it be a waste of time if I did this on my 2.7 if antifreeze got to the oil?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow7 жыл бұрын
It depends. If the engine is not making any noise at the moment you should be fine. How did antifreeze get in the oil? Usually when the pump fails it leaks out the port on the side on the engine. Not into the oil sump.

Id be more worried about that carbon/sludge buildup.Image inside oil pan and sump, let along all that build up inside head.What oil do you use,what weight and how often you really changed it? I hope you get a bit more use outta that 2.7 cause by look of sludge buildup it isn't gonna be to much longer .How many miles you have on it too?You may want bore inspect that cause that is a lot of buildup, before you go putting anymore money into that engine.... That is not the original water pump either, looks like it has been replaced before.Hope you didn't get it off eBay ....

You better change that water pump and check your oil everyday, if you don't see a leak, it may be running into your oil pan, your oil will look milky and nasty.

I have antifreeze leaking from the bottom of my car. Don't kno if it's the water pump that's causing to stream down?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow10 жыл бұрын
How many miles are on it? If its the water pump leaking, it should be coming from a port on the drivers side of the engine. Towards the front. Pressurize the cooling system with a coolant pressure tester, or run the engine until warm and pressure has built up within the system(firm hoses) , then shut it off and check for leaks. Obviously, do not remove the radiator cap when the system is pressurized. Hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions. Chris
@bokneeza10 жыл бұрын
kzguy2 it's in the middle of the car where it leaks (Past the radiator), my Chrysler 300 06 has about 167k+ at least. It seems to leak a LOT when I top off the antifreeze level in the reservoir. A few days will last. The fan constantly starts blowing, heater stops working and then it starts to overheat. *Brand new reservoir and housing* I also bled the housing for air when I had installed it about a few months ago.
@bokneeza10 жыл бұрын
kzguy2 all that starts to happen , but when I have decent antifreeze in everything works fine
@NoNonsenseKnowHow10 жыл бұрын
Ceasar Rodriguez It sounds to me like a possible cracked radiator. If the crack or hole in it is in the middle, that would make sense for it to leak more when you top off the coolant. You need to identify the exact location of the leak. If I was to guess it sounds like the radio though. Let me know what you find.
@GGigabiteM9 жыл бұрын
Ceasar Rodriguez Radiators for the past 25 or so years have used plastic and rubber to seal the top and bottom or the sides of the radiator (depending on where the inlet/outlets are.) The hot coolant eventually causes the plastic and rubber to distort and fail, then the radiator springs a leak. If the heater stops working and the engine starts overheating, it probably means that the coolant has either drained below the level of the heater core or out of the engine block completely. This would make sense if the radiator had a leak because once the coolant system is pressurized, coolant can literally start spraying out of the hole and drain all the coolant out real quick. 167k miles is a pretty long run for a plastic radiator, I'd consider changing it if you haven't already. Most of the time they're less than $150 at the auto parts place and usually aren't too difficult to install.

Can you replace just the tensioner without removing tchain
@NoNonsenseKnowHow7 жыл бұрын
Sam Tedder yes however you would want to remove the passenger side valve cover to access the timing tensioner guide rail. And before removing the tensioner you would want to put force against the guide so the chain doesn't skip a tooth when you remove the tensioner.
@statortot117 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nonon. Customer just wants to do the Tensioner. I advise not to, but,,,
@NoNonsenseKnowHow7 жыл бұрын
Sam Tedder depending on what type of issue he is having it would certainly be best to replace the entire timing chain set... including a new water pump while you're in there. thanks for watching and give it a thumbs up if it helped thanks

just curious, is it common for the coolant to escape into the oil pan when the water pump goes bad or should I be looking at something else to cause my oil pan to fill up with coolant
@masonmitchell2719 жыл бұрын
The water pump starts to wear out at the 70,000 miles mark and gets worse. it's best to change it every 70,000 miles even though they say to at 100,000. Just change it at 70,000 to prevent coolant from leaking into your oil pan.

Hi, I had to change the water pump, and now that I put everything back inside and it's timed; the timing chain creates slack between the pump (every stroke, but not contstant, It looks like every 120 degrees) and the right sprocket making the crank to skip teeth and push too much on tensioner. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this?
@QwertyQwerty-jq3cu2 жыл бұрын
I just had to replace the timing chain tensioner. Mine had failed before I got th he car apparently. Had some slight rattling just off idle when accelerating. Upon disassembling, I found out most of the problem. Since the tensioner failed, they cheaped out and installed a custom modified valve spring to help keep tension on the chain slide. The tensioner is supposed to "lock in place" and not retract. Since it failed, it would float with the valve spring tension causing chain slack. It's a wonder it didnt jump time. It probably would have if it would've been driven hard. After I installed the new tensioner, I cranked the engine several times with the coils unplugged so it wouldn't start. This was to build oil pressure into the tensioner so that it wouldn't slam into position and possibly jump time until it did that. After pressure built up, I noticed that the chain had slack between the passenger cam gear and the water pump but from the gear to the crank was tight. I was concerned about it but the cams intermittently swap tension and compression back and forth because of lobe positioning. I went ahead add reassembled everything and started it up. It ran fine and the noise was reduced 50%. I think I may have a bad water pump now so that could be some of the remaining 50% noise, we'll see. I've driven it almost 1000 miles without issues after the tensioner replacement and the intermittent slack in the chain. No noise other than what I already but was reduced significantly.
