NOTE FROM TED: We've flagged this talk for falling outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. This talk only represents the speaker’s personal understanding of energy, physiology, astronomy, and humanity. Claims made in this talk are not corroborated by peer-reviewed scientific evidence. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com...
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Is it possible for everyone on Earth to have food and shelter, and not have to work just to survive? Why do we fear change? In this talk, Joe Martino explores the nature and mechanisms of change on planet Earth.
Following in the footsteps of some of the greatest Americans, Joe Martino has proven that choosing to do what you love brings about inspiring life changes. After dropping out of college Martino founded Collective Evolution (CE), an alternative online media outlet that has carried the message of change to countless citizens of the world; Collective Evolution has also produced three feature-length documentaries.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I know many like-minded people around my own age (40-50yrs)... its so nice to see a new generation of believers. The shift is definitely at hand. I don't ever tell my kids (what I was told) that "a world like that is not possible". It is & it will be soon!

Thanks for saying this. I like you at 50 can not believe that we live in what we live in. At 20 I had such great hopes. All dashed by the current level of greed, the I delusion and global destruction. Never in the history of the planet has one species (humans) had the ability to effect global change and devastation (biodiversity, CO2 emissions, resource depletion etc) but blindly along we go.

I'm 39 and prepared all my life for this. I only worked for 3 years (in the classical way) last 20 years and I recognise myself in Joe. The rest of those years I self-studied and became a self-made anthropologist, idealist and visionary. I know what hunger feels like, what poverty is, but it was worth it. I have an interest in quantum mechanics and my pet subjects are 'the simulation argument' and 'existential risk', inspired by Nick Bostrom. I know my time has come to climb out of my rabbit hole and help humanity in any way I can, but it seems so overwhelming at times. A lot of people don't want to get out of the status quo and resist change. I fight for the right that everybody gets a basic income because I think that's an important step to intellectual maturity of humanity. We're running out of time though. This Tedx talk gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, it isn't too late. Thank you.

He didn't say that change would be easy. For some people it will be very challenging and extremely difficult. For some even a mission impossible. Surround yourself with people who are sharing/supporting your thoughts and believe in 'your' change. It's different for every individual. Support one and other, without judgement. The outcome can be very surprising. ... Peace

Fantastic perspective. The sunspot correlation is pivotal. I wonder if sunspots are internal Einstein-Rosen bridges? Ones in which consciousness flows through from a more conscious part of space.

We need to move beyond our current economic paradigm because that is the underlying issue that gives rise to the vast majority of the world's problems. Maybe bc I grew up watching Star Trek, I dont know. Most people cannot conceive of such a world. . But for me it is not difficult to imagine a world without money would function much better than our current. Because you just imagine that is the world you were born into, You would never have known anything else. Even what we have now could be tweaked so as to make it sustainable, it reenforces the absolute worst in people bc it pits us against ourselves. We need to compete not against one another but against the challenges of social and scientific progress and integration. This way as technologies develop they are used to serve our needs and free isu from the mundane,, as opposed to being the means of ever greater levels of social control and exploitation. People are inherently productive and selfish,, so it would be a lot easier than we realize to shift from a the scarcity-driven and dependent neo-feudalist economic model we slave under, called free market capitalism (meanwhile there is virtually nothing that isnt for sale and a dollar is worth more than a human being), into a world where every person has a high standard of living, the best education. Then we could work together and focus on solutions base don our shared interests. instead of amassing vast sums of wealth while others starve right under our noses. Our reward (as if happiness and well-being were not enough) would be self-development, social progress and success in our chosen fields. We would want for nothing, so all human mental resources could be fully utilized. Just imagine the possibilities.. Those who wished not to work, wouldnt have to. They could sit around and smoke weed all day, if they so chose.. but, given that we would by then have the freedom to follow our passions,, most people would seek to do something that gave them a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment, bc this, generally, is our inherent nature. We already produce more than enough. The problem is greed, which is simply the natural by-product of system that reenforces conquest and competition in pursuit of the ownership (i.e. enslavement) of the labor of others as well as their material resources. We can do so much better.

I thought this talk was really great, inspiring and explored some really neat ideas. Im baffled TED made a note to say “this doesn’t fall within the guidelines.” Since when can we not be explorers? As if exploration of thought and idea is considered wrong or bad somehow because it doesn’t match the failing material science paradigm? Cmon. I wish more people would see and hear talks like this. Ur world would probably be a better place. CE happens to be one of the most useful and interesting organizations I’ve followed for years… but watch out!… they think outside the box!

Well, I think it was a mistake leaving education, lol. To be honest, there's nothing really to do. What I would want to do is something within the gaming/computing industry. I left education because I didn't like how the college and education system was. But without going to uni, I didn't think I can do much, there isn't really anything out there for me to do. Damn.

I like the overall message of the speech, but I think it is important to note that his conclusions on his data that he represented are bad science. The "sun spot/important event" is cool, but it represents a correlation; thus no cause/effect relationship can be determined without further investigation. Also, the definition of "important historical event" is extremely vague and open to interpretation. These are the types of things that are discussed in school in a high level science class. If you want to be taken seriously among the scientific community, you have to understand the ideas and standards that the science field is held up to.

I seem to notice that Joe Martino uses whatever outlet he can, documentaries, ted talks etc to subtlety advertise and promote CE. I initially like his topics of speech but I get very annoyed from the same regurgitated redirection to CE

Yep. He made something that's extremely successful and helps millions of people because he believes in change, and making these transitions easier for people just like him. Why on Earth would he want to advertise such a thing in his public speeches? Him and his spreading of positive advice, annoying regurgitation!

Hey igotkidstofeed, Considering Joe created CE, that would make sense that he would talk about it in his various speeches and docus etc. It's the outlet created to share his passion for change and connect others with great information. It's shared because we are an organization geared towards creating change through a balance of changing world views and taking action. Peace CE
