I just did this to mine and went in through the top, I found it was easier than taking off my tire, jacking it up, ripping off my fender and tire well and going in from the bottom, I also didn't have to go get new clips and expose the batt compartment to the outside elements from the bottom. Top way isn't super easy, but a little patience is all you need, just my 10 cents

Even easier way… Delete the Aux battery all together, Its only function is for the start stop feature at red lights.

This is ridiculous overall! First of all why 2 batteries??? And second, it couldn’t be mounted in a better spot? And to hell with those plastic clips!

I’m here because I have a 2020 JT Sport and my aux battery went bad. My exact experience like yours. My truck wouldn’t start but the AC would go on.

You actually don't even have to take off the tire or the entire liner... just turn the wheel all the way to the left and pull out the left side of the liner.

Easy Peasy today. Take off right front tire. Leave it on the Jack. Use a safety stand. Used strong tape to hold a string to pull wheel liner out of the way. Laid under the battery box, unscrewed it and removed terminals. (I had to hold it sideways but is an AGM so no spillage). It took 45 minutes. No removing liner or fender….

I had a battery test 12.8 volts but when you put a load on it, 5.6 volts. Take the load off and it went back over twelve. You need a high load test light to really test a battery. In short, I am sure yours was bad.

Great tutorial. Making it even easier is I have aftermarket fender liners that are removed easily with three screws. I didn't remove my 37" tire, I turned the steering wheel full driver lock and had plenty of room.

Amazing tutorial! This is so much less complicated than the top replacement (plus I serendipitously already had my compartment exposed due to an accident where someone knocked off my fender and guard, so even easier to get to!). Thanks!

Did mine through the top today, before knowing about this alternative method. Took me around an hour. I’m not a great mechanic. Nice video though! I think I’d still go through the top next time. It’s pretty simple and I hate removing clips for the wheel well and reinstalling. Just my .02 thanks for the video!

Living in Phoenix AZ where it's very hot, I've already had to replace both batteries twice in 3 years. Definitely do both at the same time.

Thanks for sharing. Took me about 45 minutes to change mine on a 21 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I did not take off the tire, which made it tighter to work, but saved some time and hassle as well.

I did this on a 2018 JLU Sahara without removing the tire or inner fender liner. I was able to bend the fender liner out of the way and replace the battery from underneath.

You do not need to remove the wheel, you do not need to remove inner liner completely. Just remove 7 clips (do not remove pins on the fender) and move liner to get access to the AUX battery. Even easier job...
