I just now had to do the replacement for my 2020 JLU sport with 70k miles. Been reading on the forums everyone is saying not to go through the top through the fuse box but from below through the fender skirt and to order extra Mopar fasteners because they will snap. I followed this video precisely and it was a sinch. Got it done in 20 minutes! Thanks Eddie!

What an incredibly helpful and well-made video! THANK YOU! My dealership wanted almost $800 to do this -- using subpar batteries, no less. As a small token of thanks, I just bought some merch on your bonfire store ... and you've made a lifelong fan. Thanks again!

Eddie, HUGE help with this video!!! Thank You!!! All the other videos I've seen have you go through the fender well and the fender inner skirting....Holy Hell!!! My battery(ies) have been acting up lately....took my jeep in for an oil change and got to talking with the tech.....told him about changing out my batteries and he said that the easiest way was through the door under the battery.....he failed to tell me it is actually under the fuse/relay/power center.....I got the main battery out and was looking for a door.....but its really not a door but an access panel and while 2 of the bolts for the panel are under the main battery, the rest is under the fuse block as you show in the video. Thankfully I didn't throw in the towel before I found your video! Following your video was pretty straight forward......got the old Aux battery out and replaced.......re-installed the access panel and then the Lower Power/fuse block unit. Found a cool feature that I didn't see in your video: - The lower "tray" has pockets in it that correspond to the 4 large wire connectors. You can "snap" the wire connectors into these pockets (they will actually snap into the pockets....This allows you to (Carefully) position the Power center/fuse/relay panel over the lower block and connectors. Once properly positioned you simply snap the power center/fuse/relay into place (remember the 4 plastic "snaps" that were undone to remove the Power center/fuse/relay panel in the first place) and push it down until it "Snaps" the 4 Plastic keepers. At this point the 4 wiring connectors are in the right positions and you simply screw in the 4 Bolts that you had undone to get the Power center/fuse/relay block out in the first place. When you screw these 4 bolts in, the bolts actually lift the connectors out of the lower tray pockets and into their proper positions on the bottom the power center/fuse/relay block (you will hear the connectors "unsnap" from the lower tray pockets......Way to go Jeep engineers!!... With all my start/stop messing around it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to do this job. I replaced both batteries (AUX 14 AGM battery and an Upgraded H7 96r AGM for the main) I didn't hook up a power source to the battery leads when I disconnected them (just like in you video) and once all done, fired up and had not lost any settings. Again, Thank You so much for posting this video!!!

Called 2 dealers in Vegas One said according to the VIN it was a single battery system and the other a 2 battery system. I got the 2 batteries and followed this video and got all the way to the Aux battery box and no aux battery was there. The parts guy did say he didn't get the VIN right, and basically he messed up. Thank You so much!

That is frustrating to hear you had to go through all that trouble just to find out the parts guy made a mistake. As you have found, any Jeep with e-torque will NOT have the small auxiliary battery but rather, the large 48v one under the Jeep.

@@kelliestravels Sorry, I don't own a Jeep with etorque. However, it really shouldn't be going bad so soon. If you're having a battery problem, changing out the main one under your hood should fix it. If your problem really is the 48v one, it should be covered under warranty.

I followed your tutorial and was able to successfully replace the auxiliary battery and our jeep started right back up. Thank you again.

Happy to hear our video was able to help you out. I should also note that the auxiliary battery exists to protect your Jeep's computer during start ups. It should not be bypassed even if you could get it to work. Auto start/stop amplifies the amount of starting your Jeep sees but even with it disabled, your computer will still get surged and over time, will harm your computer. Of course, this is to say nothing about your warranty being voided without it.

Awesome video. Clear instructions, socket sizes, tips, etc. I didn’t think getting at Aux battery thru fuse box was that tough, and almost seemed easier than the fender well approach some people do. That bungie cord tip was great! I did the same trick for holding back the three wire harness on the firewall side. My findings… 1) the four wire harnesses that so nicely stayed in your tray or were easily pulled off for you, did not stay in my tray and instead were tightly attached to underside of my fuse panel. Yes, I had the four long screws fully detached from the harnesses. Pulling on the back of them just pulled off the colored back cover pieces, and I didn’t want to then pull by the wires. SOLVED: I found that tapping with a hammer or wrench handle on the top of those unscrewed long screws would push the harness off the bottom of fuse panel. 2) you mentioned the Odyssey Aux14 battery was what you would have preferred but couldn’t find. I did find that and bought it at first. The terminals on the Odyssey were not square/straight on 3 sides like the bent down sides of the Jeeps +/- terminal connectors need to attach flat and centered. I returned it and got Diehard Platinum and it looked completely identical in shape all over, to the Jeep original. 3) when re-assembling the fuse box, there is a satisfying snap as the lock tabs engage when pushing the top fuse panel onto the bottom tray and harnesses. So satisfying you might think you’re done and forget to actually screw back in those four long silver screws that snug up each harness. Well fyi… if that’s the case, then when you are all done, it won’t start…or didn’t for me…and a sinking feeling will set in. Luckily I walked back thru the video versus what I remembered doing and figured it out. Those screws must either seat the harnesses all the way, or not ground something, until screwed in. Again, really appreciate the video. Subscribed and will be checking out your other content!

First great video Eddie. This is for all other's be careful when removing the 2 main battery posts. The auxiliary battery is still connected in line with system for JL's and JT's. You can get a multi-meter and read the positive and negative posts after disconnected and still get 12VDC. The aux battery runs the Electronic Start/Stop system. You can even get in with main battery posts disconnected and start your engine with key FOB nearby. I remove the aux battery posts off the firewall. Replacing the stock AGM batteries with better after market ones like Eddie did should get you 2 to 3 times the life then stock. Great job. Love seeing vids of the puppy growing up.

I just replaced both batteries for about $250. I've heard they charge as much as 800 for this at a dealership. Only thing I'd add to someone unfamiliar with battery replacement is just to be prepared for a small arc (spark) when reconnecting your negative terminal. This is common, harmless, and just due to residual charge.

I thank you for your time and awesome video...you make it look so easy hahaha. Thanks again..also at the end of your commentary you are absolutely right my gladiator was doing all of the above including malfunctioning of the start/stop function. Thanks God bless 🙏

Beautiful border collie puppy! I have a 7 year old border collie that came to our house together with a male border collie, both appear full breed, as strays one night. My daughter kept the male and we kept the female. They are the best dogs ever! So loving and affectionate!! Never seen any other dogs like them!

Thank you so much for this video. Great job! Made changing my batteries pretty simple. One additional suggestion… Protect the main battery positive harness from accidentally grounding during the change out. Once the AUX battery is installed, the main battery positive lead becomes “hot”. (Call me Sparky.)

I know this is an older video, however I wanted to say thank you for making it. I talked with a batteries plus rep the other day. He advised me yo throw away the battery sleeves, unless you live in cold weather. I live in AZ thats why he advised this for me. I will store mine away on the larger battery. The AUX one I like it in there for now, for a tighter fit.

Great video! We tow our 2020 JLU Diesel and live full time in our motorhome. When something stops working (like batteries) it’s often a huge pain to make an appointment at a dealer for something that may be under warranty BUT you just can’t wait for an appointment on their schedule! Was glad to see your symptoms were the same as mine and it's what convinced me to jump in and deal with the PIA of digging for that second AUX battery! (Fortunately, while diggibng out the main battery, I found out that in the Diesel the AUX battery sits in a compartment just under the main battery!!!) No fuse box removal and pretty actually pretty straight forward! Thank you for taking the time to do these videos! (Any chance you’ve found a firewall mount location for that ARB air compressor on the Diesel yet? ; ) Cheers!

@luispablolee773 жыл бұрын
This is exactly the comment I was looking for, my JLU diesel, noted the fuse box and air filter system are in different positions than Eddie’s, noted the auto start on and off says battery charging and aside that, no warning ⚠️, the main battery read 14v in the main screen, My Rubicon is a tank that can get me everywhere but if I am in the middle of nowhere without a jump starter, it is useless if the car does not start

I didn’t know about this. We have two JLs. This guy is very helpful. He has showed me how to do suspension lift, double cardan drive shafts, track bars, control arms, caster angles now the auxiliary battery that I didn’t even know existed. My jeep has gone through all of the changes I have just mentioned from his videos. Maybe I will just change the batteries even if they make it to 4 yrs. Thanks.

Really happy to hear our videos have been so helpful to you. I should note that this is mainly a thing with the 3.6L. If you have a 2.0L or etorque, you will not have this auxiliary battery.
@philliplehn3600 Жыл бұрын
@@wayalife Hi our jeeps are 3.6L. Went out and purchased a jump start battery. The one a purchased was quite expensive as I will get a few more cranks out of it if needed. Maybe one day it will save us. Cheers

The Group Size 400. Or at least, that was what it was at Orielly.

As of Dec 2022, two batteries came up at my local O'Reilly's computer: AUX 12 and AUX 14. I wasn't sure which it was so I went home to do some more internet research and found it's the AUX 14 with 200 cranking amps. AUX 12 has 180 cranking amps and is this not correct but will fit in the space.

@@vincenzomilitello9947 I would never pretend to know as much or more than people who'll tell you something is 'dangerous', even though they have zero personal experience doing it but if you read through the 1500 comments, I don't think you'll find a single person who's used this video to have experienced a problem. Dude, doing this today for the 3rd damn time since I got this thing 3 years ago (AZ/CO is tough on batteries). Love almost everything else about the JLUR, but this 2-battery system is one of the worst designs I've ever encountered. The fact that you can't even jump the main to get started if the AUX is dead (because it won't crank if the AUX doesn't pass its test on startup) is literally dangerous. I think they fixed this in later models, but the 2018.5 is a PITA when it comes to batteries; and potentially getting stranded in the wild, or hung out in an intersection. I sure wish your video was out the first time I encountered this situation. You are a GREAT instructor!
