Change the brew pressure Bezzera Magica / Giulia / Mitica espresso machine

In this video I will show you how to change the brew pressure of the Bezzera Magica espresso machine. These machines have a higher brew pressure by default than the ideal 9 bar. If you want ideal pressure, check out the video: it's easy.

Do you recommend to lower the pressure to 9 bar? Bezzera recommend 12 bar on this machine because the pump is a vibrating pump and the brew pressure (at the group head) get’s lower than 12 bar.

but i think the 1 bar more pressure will help in a case the resistance of coffee is high, or what is the reason for bezzera to set it with higher pressure in default? so they anticipate it will reduce by time or by mentioned resistance from coffee cake?

it depends on the pump and the flow, the 10 bar you see at the gauge is NOT the brew pressure at the group... if you see 10 or 11 bar at the gauge, it should be around 9 bar at the group/coffe cake. setting it lower like in this video will probably reduce the pressure at the brew group to less than 9 bar

Hello! I was hoping to find some information about this. I bought my magica today second hand, and the pressure is at 6 bar when it’s switched off. Should put in down to 0? Thank you!

Problem number one is to buy a Bezzera machine. They have poor quality control and dont really respect warranty. Personal experience with a Magica Pid MN that I bought new had a leaking tray. The welding was never completed but left open in one corner. No fix was offered, but advice to keep a towel in the tray… dont really recommend Coffee Italia as a retailer either because of this.

Hi @discovery, probably too late for you, but I'll post it for reference nevertheless: the procedure for the Bezzera Unica is just the same. You'll need a 3mm hex-wrench/Allen key to loose the four bolts for opening the case. To change the pressure a 16mm open-end wrench is required. Turning it clockwise ("tightening") will increase the pressure, turning it anticlockwise ("loosening") decreases the pressure.
