You should use Large Concrete blocks for your flat shooting berm. You can purchase them from a concrete company. They are around 4'L x 3'H x 2'T, with ridges and grooves to interlock them. They also have a loop on the top to pick them up. You can then put the RR ties in front and replace them as needed while keeping the Structural integrity of the Berm.

Anyone even knows how long these train ties last?? Even when used by a train track they last 7 to 10 years with severe pounding on it day in day out. And are only replaced cause of the safety for the train track. So they probably last for 20 years over there without problem. Especially between gravel and rocks. If water flows away easily they will last realy long. They usually rot because they lay in water when it rains. I think the retaining wall wont hold much water. Also wood absorbs bullets better than concrete.
@mightyquin4955
@mightyquin4955 7 ай бұрын
@@Syphirioth I have a RR tie back stop for shooting and I only shoot a few full magazines a month and I have had to replace 2 ties after 2 years of shooting. Given the volume and large calibers Matt and his friends use, they will be pounding that berm and need to replace some ties sooner rather than later.

For that retaining wall. Those 4 and 8 foot sections locking it in to the hillside CANT be EVERY row. You’ll need to do it every 4-5 rows so that it interlocks in with the gravel and actually holds it in place. Doing it every level will provide very little structural integrity compared to alternating

Here is a tip to make that container far more useful out there: We used these as offices and housing in Trashcanistan. You just open the doors all the way and pin them back out of the way. Then build a wall with a locking door in the open end of the container. It makes it much easier to get in and out of. We also set a mini-split there so we had heating and ac inside. Pouring dirt on top, then covering with cammo netting helps keep the temps down in the summer.

Hey Matt, I was gonna mention a while ago about container office's. we just got one for our shop for about 20k at a local auction. It comes as a container and you just fold it out. They have multiple different layouts to choose from, it wouldn't be a tower but it would give you a nice indoor space for the range

well that's pretty special having a flight path behind your range - don't forget to have a range warden to ensure weapons down when something flies into view - i remember years back, a near by glider strayed into our sights, an accident looking for somewhere to happen - not that any thing would have happened, but accidents do

The container tower idea could be range contol on regualar day. A good view of the whole area and a couple people down at the shooters to keep things in control. Being able to see potential issues and direct hands to fix it.

You could build the containers into tiny homes and turn them into air-b-n-b. Just a suggestion. :)

Yeah I suggested that last video. Using shipping containers/connex boxes to build housing for the place. There are some cool designs out there that give large living areas with rooms off the sides.

for a good thread checker, dorman part # 415-103 for those time you have a threaded hole or a welded stud that you dont know the pitch of. just cut the cable they come on so you can use them individually. has a male and female side.

If those railroad ties have creosote in them, you better get some long sleeve shirts before you mess with them gets warm out there it’s gonna be brutal for you. Take care.
