I heard a rumour about some pretty big potential changes to the 18x program, so I decided to look into.

The pipeline is constantly changing, constantly. What you should expect is long days, long nights, cold weather and hunger. Be in shape both physically and most of all, mentally.

Enlisting for SIX YEARS for a shot at SF? Knowing the failure/drop rate is very high...I feel it is a bit of the 'old bait and switch trick by the Army. Your buddies that failed selection that are now cooks, what is their opinion? Nothing against cooks and nothing against those who attempted a very very difficult career path (SF). Read "Chosen Soldier" by Dick Couch. He describes the process and follows several SF candidates.

It was five (did I say six?) But yes, the whole contract is a big risk. But then so is most Spec ops initial entry contracts

I have never heard of anyone becoming a cook. You are at a default of 11b and airborne qualified.

@@The85F0X yeah it's crazy. Last I heard they where making guys 11B again, but in 2017 you talk to anyone who was an 18x non-select or drop they all got reclassed.

So could these changes apply to someone on the original 18x program and then switch on them while they are in basic? Or will the contract itself say you will serve 2 years up front?
@JohnS6775 жыл бұрын
No, when you sign a contract they should have to honor that contract.

Until you enter the pipeline, meaning you actually finish selection, there is not a set way of how it will run for you. When I went through it changed several times.

Could you make a video explaining the process of joining as an 11x: How long each course is, the different courses, their difficulty and the minimum phisical standards?

If you want to do Special Forces as an enlisted, you have to be at-least an E-4 promotable.

Hey Jonathan are you able to retry again for SFAS since getting out of the pipleine as 18x? And would anybody kinda look at you funny in the Regiment for leaving for SFAS?
@JohnS6775 жыл бұрын
Not at all. There are a ton of 18x in Regiment. Yeah I can go back, it's actually a pretty popular option for guys to spend a few years in Regiment before going to selection.

Question: I’ve been wanting to join the army with an 18x contract, but I’m the only male son in my family. Do you have any idea if that will affect my chances of just being able to join or tryout for army special forces in general?
@JohnS6775 жыл бұрын
If I understand your question you are asking if not having any brother will affect your enlistment? If that's the case no, that has nothing to do with joining the army or being able to pick up an 18x contract.
@cabinetblue20855 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Shelton I’m the only male son in my who family that carries my last name. I’m asking because a recruiter had told me that it might affect me wanting to or being able to join/try for special forces. But I wanted to get more insight on it since he didn’t seem very convincing
