This is why I follow my ikigai. The Japanese concept of life's purpose. It is the intersection of: what you love to do; what you are good at; what the world needs; and what you can be PAID for. @Dr. xyz The fact that you went to such great lengths to try and convince him that his life is not needed by saying it has no purpose goes to show how desperate you are at trying to make those who are doing great deeds for thier job and helping the world in wonderful ways unmotivated is just disgusting ,its unnecessary for you to say that and nobody asked for it ,with such "information" there is nothing to be gained ,and its just not true people who are great do not go on ahead and live thier lives trying to make those around them to feel bad to make them feel better great people focus on what they can do to help the world and those around you ,and since he's trying to help those around him he is in no place that deserves to have such an idiotic ramble thrown at him. His work will do a great deed in this world which will leave an impact on history that will never go away since his work will impact a persons life and since it impacted a persons life they changed thier life with that info making the next generation of that persons kids to be different and then the next one different and so on and so forth, since this world is in need of such studies to help inovate and advance humanity and make the next generations lives better and thier kids

I'm all for people doing whatever they want. I've also met a number of folks who decided they're really special at rapping or drawing or singing with a guitar and seem frustrated when other folks don't feel similarly. I think ambitious dreams take ambitious awareness to match. If someone wants to be special, what will make other people feel they're special? Putting art into the world is a brutal process. I think a lot of people may not know it can be like that.

I quit my career when I realised that the amount of stress that comes with the career will give me heart attack more than meager money I was making. Anyway I was never passionate about it. Luckily I had a life partner who was making good money. I took up gardening to slow my pace. I focused on our physical and mental health as a priority. We moved closer to home town. We reduced our materialistic desires and vacations. I invested savings and 10 year later we bought apartment of our taste with no loans in suburbs. We continue on our paths. We are planning to buy a farm nearby. We had to adjust various obligations and expectations and relations etc. We are comfortable, happy and peaceful. My partner is also able to choose better work life balance options in his career now.

I personally think the bullshit isn‘t about whether to make your passions your job or not, but about how a lot of ppl try to find a singular generalized solution for a very individual, subjective problem. what I mean by this is that the question of how to make an income and whether you should follow your dreams or not depends on you and your unique situation. for someone it might make a lot of sense to drop out of law and become a rock star bc their circumstances are favorable and they have a good chance for this actually working out, whereas for someone else this would be the dumbest decision they could make. it all depends on the person‘s unique circumstances and skill set and so many other complicated factors that whenever someone gives generalized advice on this topic I‘m like yea no, that‘s really not how this works. we’re not all born equal sadly, we all face different challenges in our lives and thus the same thing doesn’t work for everybody. you have to look at the individual person or rather, people have to look at their own individual lives and figure out what it is they want, and then if what they want is realistic to attain, and if it is, how to get there. just my two cents.
