I just collect. If something goes up in price, great. If it doesn't, oh well. Also, 33 T for the 👕.

Exactly....you "might" be safe. Trouble is....today Mantle is still famous and desired....will he continue to be so? Not sure....collect it because you simply like it....don't count on retiring on that. Better to take the 100 grand and invest in an S&P 500 index mutual fund.

Anything can be an investment. Your time spent doing anything is an investment. Relationships are investments. And yes, cards can be investments. Investments not limited to the stock market and real estate.

When you bring up time spent, you have left the financial realm... to be a financial investment, it has to have basic qualifications, which cards do not have, so no, cards are not investments.... but stick around... it is a great hobby friend!!

@@vintagesportsshack time spent is the most precious of any investment. It is unquestionably any human beings most precious commodity, transcendent of anything monetary. As far as the cardboard, when I decide to sell my cards, I will have made exponentially more than I paid. That goes for all of my investments of various natures atypical of the conventional definition of financial investing.

I am unique in that I actually collect baseball cards and bmx items. Bmx can be an investment. With things like bikes and frames, it can be similar to restoring a car. There is a pretty good sized market for old school (pre mid 90's), mid school (mid 90's to mid 00's) and new school (current bikes). Old school is by far the most popular and there is even an event like the sports card national. I stick with mid school because thats the era I raced. It is kinda like cards in that, it can take years to find that one part or frame. Its not a hobby with a high return but investing is possible. Some of the show bikes can go for well into 4 figures. My bmx and card collection overlap as well. Ginter, Sport Kings and Goodwin all have bmx cards.

Cards are an expense. Buy them, enjoy them, maybe you recover some of the expense when you sell them. How can I be on your friends wall 😂

lol it is collecting not investing! If someone down the road sells your collection and makes money good for them but I don’t look at it as an investment!

This card market is overpriced in my opinion, as much as it has come down on singles they are still too high. I saw Calvin Biggio got traded to the Dodgers so I looked to see if I could pick up a few rookie refractors and that stuff is priced to much on eBay for a player that is not even that good. There is basically no upside on anything now.

only modern cards worth anything, wembenyama, elly, skenes, judge, luka, cj stroud, mahomes, purdy and a few others. just gotta hit a lotto ticket and you are set. seen some people hit 1/1 cards and sell asap... they get lucky

Sports cards is a hobby. If you go to a bank to get a loan to buy cards, you should get out and touch grass now and then. Going to a bank for a loan on real estate is an investment. I've never heard anyone refer to buying a house and land as a hobby, haha.
