In this episode I am starting my adventure to follow the Iron Ore Train, which runs 700 kilometers through the Sahara, in Mauritania. But before I ride to a remote part of Mauritania, I need to make sure I bring enough cash with me. The ATMs don't work, so I have to change all my US dollars for local currency, at the border of Morocco and Mauritania..

Noraly, I have been following you since your first trip from India, have watched almost all of your series, in fact inspired by you I did a recent motorcycle trip from Austria to Pakistan covering over 25000 KMs. I remember when you said “ which track to take” myself riding in the Mongolian mountains where I lost the orientation. But you, riding in the desert, all alone, nothing around, heat, deep sand, have earned a next level of respect. Not everyone has the courage to do this.

It is hard to imagine how she creates at this level so consistently. There are so many parts to what she does and she has mastered all of them. Her endless curiosity and charm engages both her veiwers and the people she meets during her travels is the foundation I think. I still struggle to understand how she can be both so positive but also be driven to keep improving her various skills. I will not be suprised a bit if one day we see her winning an Oscar for a documentary,

@@patrickpritchard8301 For me, it's akin to watching athletes that shatter all time records. There are just some humans that seem to achieve more than what is humanly possible. She said something in an interview once that stays with me. She was asked if there was something that happened that she didn't expect. With no hesitation she said that it was how much kindness among her followers would get to her, it wasn't just kindness to her, it was also when we were kind to each other. I may be wrong but, I believe that is what motivates her, growing kindness.

Maybe this train transported the iron for your next Honda. Well, if you ask me...... I think the cars in Nouadhibou look quite good for wrecks. About Alaska not storting. I was once a car mechanic and in the Dutch language we make a difference between not "starting" and not "aanslaan" ,means it doesn't by run itself. The solution for both problems couldn't be more different. Not starting *battery, *starting engine, *cable from battery to starting engine disconnected, *starting relay * starting button. So you push the starter button and hear nothing. Not: yiebeyiebeyiebeyiebe Not running: you push the button or turn the key and you hear the starting engine turning, (yiebeyiebeyiebe) the combustion engine, but this isn't going to run by itself. Vroemvroemvroem. Problems: *sparkplugs, *gas, *engine flooded and much more I know ! So for the roadside assistente it is good to know what's the problem. But the professionals like ADAC, ANWB, AA, RAC have many stuff on board. How this is in Mauritanië...I don't know

I think I figured out why Alaska won't start. The gear indicator has a - when it should have a N to start. Oh, them sensors! Move the shift lever around a little and it might start. While I'm here, I did a Google search for the Mauritania Iron Ore Train. You can ride the train for free, don't have to sneak to do it, lots of people ride the hopper cars, a few of them are tourists, deaths from falls are common. A guy that wrote about his 21 hour, one way, 704 km trip said, "Riding the World's Longest Iron Ore Train crossing the Sahara Desert of Mauritania is maybe one of the most adventurous thing you could do in your entire life." Evidently that fellow hasn't heard of Itchy Boots.

A lifetime ago I was in Singapore, and needed to get US money changed to local dollars. My friends that lived there told me to go to the money changers on the street and forget about the banks, that scene exchanging US dollars took me right back. Thanks for taking us along Noraly.

First Glimpses of Mauritania are fantastic for riders who love dune bashing. And that’s what Itchy Boots is doing in this episode. It ended with Alaska breaking down in the middle of nowhere and thus heightening the interest for what happened next. Did Noraly fix it on her own or did her guardian angel pop up like so many times before. Excited to find out in next episode. I’m a bit worried for her but I believe she will be fine coz she has the brains to tackle this situation. All the luck to you Noraly 👍

@@OneTwoMark Sometimes I wonder whether she actually does carry a weapon or not. I'm guessing that would be troublesome at border crossings and all. I saw her doing a lot of dangerous stuff and seem to have complete trust to strangers in the middle of nowhere. She once really protested against all the ''Be careful'' comments saying she knows what she's doing and she's not naive or anything. My father still thinks she doesn't travel alone, which is absolutely ridicilous.

@@subutaynoyan5372 Have often wondered the same. I actually think the various cameras and the GPS emergency beacon she has on show might act as a deterrent. Certainly not full proof if someone really wanted to hurt her in some way. But a visual deterrent nonetheless. She might know some nifty self defence moves also. God willing that nothing bad will ever happen to her.

That would be my main concern…not to be able to start Alaska in the middle of the desert…glad we are not watching Live videos which means that Noraly found a solution to the issue. Amazing to see the remote places you are going through and how friendly the locals are with you. Fantastic images with the iron ore train in the background. There is a guy who is organizing a trip where you get to jump on that train and spend the night on one wagon for a few hundreds kilometers…probably as crazy as being on Alaska!

You are bringing me back a lot of memories Noraly, before i retired i used to work for a manufacturer of mining machinery, one of our customer was in Zourate, (where the mine is) i took that train several times (17hours ride one way) it was not comfortable and super hot but it certainly was an experience of a life time, i also crossed the Sahara desert in a jeep a couple of times to go to the mine (7.5 hours), i really loved that compared to the train… i am glad you are living that experience now and doing it on a motorcycle must be fantastic .
