Yes, you could leave the cartridge in the fork if you are changing just the oil. But most of the time seals or springs are changed when an oil change is done. I was just following the service manual and that's the process it showed. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't really think about that when I was working on the forks.

The stock size bore on a 10-13 CRF250 is 76.80mm, and then some OEM places sell two or three O/S pistons in increasing sizes. If your bike has not been rebuilt, you will need the STD size piston. You could always measure the cylinder too.

@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The process for changing the oil in your forks should be different as they are Showa SFF forks while the ones shown in the video are Showa conventional forks. Some of the things will be the same, but refer to a service manual for the exact procedure.

ah, its the aftermarket sizes that were confusing me. Not sure if it has been rebuilt. Ill have to measure then. Cheers mate appreciate your advice
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 11 жыл бұрын
Yea, the aftermarket sizes are just for oversize in the case you need to bore your cylinder out to remove scratches or other damage.
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 11 жыл бұрын
Tighten and torque the triple clamp pinch bolts first, then the stem nut, and after that the axle. Then follow the procedure for aligning the fork tubes shown in the video. There really is no correct order to tighten the triple clamp bolts and heat nut, as you tighten things will align on their own unless of course something is twisted.

Hey with forks you need to consider how much oil is left in after you have drained. I know the Honda manual has a diagram showing the approx amount of oil left in the fork based on how long you have drained it. Something to take into consideration. Hey thanks for making some great vids mate. Cheers
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 11 жыл бұрын
You will not need to align your forks since there are no pinch bolts. They will align when you tighten the axle.

Hey what weight fork fluid and brand do recommend?
@CameronNiemela
@CameronNiemela 8 жыл бұрын
The weight of the fluid greatly depends on bike, rider weight, and whether you're riding track or trail. But I've always had great success using Maxima oils. Can't remember the weight I used.

I believe the chambers are separate and there isn't a way for oil to go from one chamber to the other. That's why you need to add oil to the chambers separately when changing the oil.

great video man. i have a 2011 crf 250. wouldnt trade it for any bike. every 30 hours sounds a bit crazy though. sent it in at about 80 hours to service. am at 4 years later with 170 hours on. decided ill do it myself during our 21 day lock down. better than spending 5.5K south african rand on someone else doing it..+- 400 Dollars

Yeah can make a difference, up to 20cc... Drain overnight if you have time. Hey I have a question off topic. Do you know how to determine what stock piston size you need? I have a 2010 CRF250r and there are 3 stock sizes. I know with Yams it is marked on the barrel. Any ideas?

although im not nearly as good as a mech as you are. id recomend to everyone when tightening your fork cap/cartriage caps. just tighten the bottom tripple clamp bolts to spec. then tighten caps. and then proceed to tighten fork cap/cartraige cap. that way there is no chance of you damaging threads on the fork cap
