I think the 9F movements are absolutely beautiful.

What a stunning watch....the finishing of the case and its transitions are truly spectacular....as is the case back , but....a custom made display back made to the same standard as the rest of the case to show off that gorgeous movement would be something to behold..!!

I am not completely convinced that these movements need showing off - I certainly find them to be objects of engineering beauty but I don't think they compare particularly well against a nicely designed and finished hand-wind mechanical.

My word. I am usually not into quartz, but that Grand Seiko 9F82A is a horse of a different color. Beautiful timepiece inside and out.

I think there is a case to be made that this is the perfect modern Grand Seiko.

Thanks Martin - very enjoyable video, and a very beautiful watch. Turns out you're much the same age as me. 1964 must've been a good year! 😁

I'm glad you enjoyed it. 1964 is starting to feel like a very long time ago!

thanks for that- much more confident to do it on my own now.

Have a GS with the 9F. Absolutely outstanding. Really hasn't been babied. Well worn and has been 'bashed' about a bit. Has more than proved its' worth as a robust and extremely reliable watch.

I'm surprised to see that although your watch has a lower limited edition number than mine, the date number on the inside of the case-back is a month later.

A beautiful watch. Simplicity of design. 4 years on a battery is pretty impressive. I assume this is one of the last non spring drive quartz models seiko made?
@amateurwatchfettler Жыл бұрын
The spring drive may have a quartz oscillator but they are a completely different category of movement to a conventional stepper motor quartz. The spring drive are far closer to a mechanical movement than they are to quartz. The 9F Grand Seiko quartz line is still going strong, with a large number of models still available to buy new.

Great and informative! I have a question on where to buy the Seizaiken battery?
@amateurwatchfettler Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I bought the batteries from Cousins UK.

What is the shelf life of the watch battery!? If you bought a set it will sit for years and years,, probably will degrade over time i guess

Hello Martin, please could you tell me this Grand Seiko's accuracy over a month and / or a year? In its simplicity it is very beautiful. Thank you so much and all the very best, Wendi 🌻
@amateurwatchfettler Жыл бұрын
Hi Wendy, in the first couple of years of ownership I was seeing an accuracy of a couple of seconds per year. I've not really kept tabs since then but have no reason to doubt it is running comfortably within spec (plus/minus 10 s /year).
@Supra_Mare_Cultro_Bloke Жыл бұрын
any idea how often is the spring drive going through a battery replacement?
@amateurwatchfettler Жыл бұрын
The spring drives don't have a battery so never!
@ianmargetts4940 Жыл бұрын
Hey Martin, I think I could even do that….unlike your usual intricate and entertaining watch restorations! That is a nice watch though, it’s just with the internal stuff, it seems bit soulless?
@amateurwatchfettler Жыл бұрын
For me, not in the slightest. It is such a beautiful watch and the quartz movement allowed them to make an homage with dimensions pretty much identical to the original. The choice of 9F82 also made the watch just about affordable for me at the time. I suspect an equivalent with a hand wind mechanical movement would have been out of reach. On the wrist, it oozes character and warmth.

@@amateurwatchfettler I think it’s when you actually see inside that it’s nicely done but still battery, the actual watch is great looking and a perfect size. Thanks for vid!
