Thanks - beautiful GS movement. Every time I change a battery in a quartz movement I think of the hours of frustration I spent trying to work on mechanical movements. No more for me - quartz all the way!

In the past I would draw a line with a sharpie connecting the case back and the case. When retightening just make sure the lines connect again.

I don't think it's a must to change the gasket every time. It's good but not absolutely needed unless the gasket is in bad shape. Unfortunately I don't have the reference number.

Casio: *has a battery inside* Grand Seiko: Installs the battery so that the ‘Seiko’ text is properly oriented when the user has to change the battery. Now THAT is attention to detail.

I would like to know if you would choose to replace the water resistant ring on the crown of your watch after more than five years of use.
@GFWatch2 жыл бұрын
Frankly I'm not too concerned on the crown gasket. It's also a little hard to replace unlike the case back gasket. But yeah, if I have the gasket, I may change it.
@user-gi6kv6rq7p2 жыл бұрын
@@GFWatch I think it is worth learning that you change the batteries very carefully. Water in a watch is often caused by water in the crown and I would like to see a video of this in your future work.

Did you pressure test the watch after the replacement ?
@GFWatch3 жыл бұрын
No but I'm not too worried. I'm not going to go swimming or diving with this watch. I've done several battery replacements on my other quartz pieces and don't have any water ingress issue. If you bring your watch to a watchmaker or jeweler to charge the battery, I think most of them will not be doing pressure test if it's just a battery change. Having that said, I'll always assess the gasket condition. If it's bad, then replace it. Or if you're really concerned, replace the gasket every battery change.

Note where it is before starting to screw it on. Screw it on and see where it ends up. Note how much off the rotation is. Screw it off. Next, screw it on but rotate it the proper amount, so that it ends up correct.
