Thanks - beautiful GS movement. Every time I change a battery in a quartz movement I think of the hours of frustration I spent trying to work on mechanical movements. No more for me - quartz all the way!

Hmm...Mechanical movement usually doesn't require a lot of tinkering unless you're a watch maker or when you want to regulate it.

Casio: *has a battery inside* Grand Seiko: Installs the battery so that the ‘Seiko’ text is properly oriented when the user has to change the battery. Now THAT is attention to detail.

Do any of you good watch fans know how long a quartz battery will last in a GS? The internet says 3 years however, I've spoken to a couple of watch spotters and a retailer, they've said 7-8 years isn't unusual. Is that right? Or only when the movement is new?

Note where it is before starting to screw it on. Screw it on and see where it ends up. Note how much off the rotation is. Screw it off. Next, screw it on but rotate it the proper amount, so that it ends up correct.

Did you pressure test the watch after the replacement ?
@GFWatch
@GFWatch 3 жыл бұрын
No but I'm not too worried. I'm not going to go swimming or diving with this watch. I've done several battery replacements on my other quartz pieces and don't have any water ingress issue. If you bring your watch to a watchmaker or jeweler to charge the battery, I think most of them will not be doing pressure test if it's just a battery change. Having that said, I'll always assess the gasket condition. If it's bad, then replace it. Or if you're really concerned, replace the gasket every battery change.

That is why I prefer quartz movements as there is no escapement working like a hand brake on a car to control the speed while driving and thereby using up most of its energy.

So the service interval ive heard people say is 50 years which is crazy long! but the question is will these little batteries always be available given the global fight for resources and climate change disasters that will happen over the next 50 years

@@GFWatch I’m a Chinese American so I’m Asian myself and not being racist or trying to insult or make fun of you but I just don’t get why Singaporeans mispronounce so many English words like that. Lol but I gotta say you do a good job at removing the case and battery, my biggest nightmare about quartz is that you might scratch the back case or get dust in, wished every quartz has a separate battery hatch like Swatch it’ll make life much easier and quartz Watch much more appealing, I have like 3-4 Quartz and it’s already giving me a headache worrying about battery leak or damaging the back case and getting dust in when I need to remove the batteries.
