Changing the rear wiper blade on a scion xa or xb

Changing the rear wiper blade on a 2004 scion xa but its the same process for the first model xb's. Hope this helps some of you.

thanks, I've been looking for a new rear blade for a while... Autozone was always out. I just picked up a new one at walmart at a bargain price for my 2005 scion xa and couldn't remember how the old one comes off... Your video was right on (except I didn't need to pry back the plastic lock pieces with a key - all I had to do was turn the blade perpendicular to the holder and it popped off easily). again, thanx

Thanks so much. I also have a 2008 xB and it worked great. (Sounds like the older xB's are different). I never would have figured out the base part on my own. Though the wiper itself is just a friction fit on mine and it's more a matter of levering it off as opposed to releasing a catch.

Nearly identical process for the XB 2nd version. The difference is that the cap doesn't come off, it merely swings up but remains attached.

I ended up buying a universal blade and molded a piece of epoxy to fit into the female part of the wiper arm where there are 2 holes where the original blade had stubs to lock into. When I fitted it I also molded it into the opening to the universal blade where a compatible arm would go into. Once it dried I attached it by drilling a hole in the epoxy where it fit inside the arm to line up with the 2 holes and put in a small nut and bolt with a locking washer.

Agreed, as I have the exact same version, 2006 Scion xB, and the design is different. O'Reilly Auto Parts didn't even have the item in their main store computer, nor the little one by all the wiper blades. I just got off the phone with the dealership and they only cost $3.50. FYI!

Apparently, the process is NOT AT ALL the same on the XB. Surprisingly, Toyota designed the two arms very differently, with the XB having a fixed blade (secured permanently by a pin). Therefore, all you need for an XB is a new rubber refill.

K. Some of you may notice that that wiper is completely different. There are some, like mine, that you must replace the entire assembly to change the blade. I bought a 12a wiper for mine and it turns out I have to return it.
