The grunts and finger cut made for great subtle humor and the POV made for good vantage.

Dang Ray, fantastic POV of the work needed to tackle this job. One of the better how-to's on upgrading oem speakers I have ever watched. Fantastically helpful.

I noticed the bass was weaker than stock speakers after upgrading front door and dash speaker even with an amp. Fixed it but putting a resistor on my dash speakers. The dash speakers were overpowering the door speakers. It sounds amazing now!

Great how-to video! I have a 2015 Prius. I just wish you added info below on the size/type of mounting screws, brand and type of sound-deadening material and the wiring adapters. Just some homework that I'll need to do before I start this project for my Prius. Thank you!

Great job men. I am working on my Prius10. I am not a pro on this field of electronics.. I am doing a complete new install and amp. For the sealant I have a tip. First peal about 1/2” set your starting point and then pulled out the back as you push the top layer down. That way it doesn’t stick around.

I took my door apart and did a full soundproofing and installed a new kenwood 6x9 ($60 on crutchfield) and the bass was far less than factory so I ended up putting the stock speaker back. The treble was better but the bass was way less. Just an FYI to those thinking of doing this upgrade, the factory speakers look like junk but they are hard to beat without a new head unit or an amp. The dash speaker upgrade was an excellent upgrade over stock however. Test the new speakers before you wreck the old ones if they are not blown.

how did you get the stock back in?

I’m debating the same. I already have the jbl on my 2nd Prius, but wanted to upgrade. But without new headunit and channel amp the speakers would be downgrade no? I was thinking alpine type-r and 12” sub…
@mylesgray34702 жыл бұрын
@@jayhussain6959 Yea, it’s really hard to beat the factory door speakers. I upgraded to a pioneer CarPlay head unit and the factory door speakers are way better now with more power. I’m just running them till they blow, so far they are good. Added a 8” infinity powered sub under the seat and the setup sounds great to me. The soundproofing was a huge upgrade though. My car has Lexus level road noise now.
@jayhussain69592 жыл бұрын
@@mylesgray3470 Did you find the jbl speakers more powerful with the stock headunit or aftermarket? I’m running stock with aux currently and it’s decent. But I think I’ll get an android headunit & subwoofer while leaving the jbl speakers as upgrade now. Thanks
@alvinbaez2006 Жыл бұрын
When buying speakers good rule for an upgrade 80w -110w rms per speaker. Stock is usually about 50w rms.

Thanks a lot! Now I know what tools I need to take this on and that it’s with doing with the factory head unit. I’ll pick low powered speakers with the highest efficiency I can find since I won’t have an aftermarket heigh powered head unit to drive them.
@HalfAznGuy3 жыл бұрын
What speakers did you go with? I’m thinking about doing this but I really don’t know anything about speaker ratings.
@mylesgray34703 жыл бұрын
@@HalfAznGuy I went with Kicker CSC35 90W 3.5 Inch 2-Way Coaxial speakers in the dash and they made a huge difference and sound amazing. Can’t recommend them enough. I tried some low power Kenwood 6x9’s in the doors but the bass was much less so I ended up re-installing the factory door speakers which are actually pretty good. I added a new pioneer CarPlay head unit and a powered infinity 8” subwoofer under the seat and my setup is complete.
@HalfAznGuy3 жыл бұрын
@@mylesgray3470 nice! Thanks for the reply. I just saw Cheeko’s video saying that replacing the dash speakers were a much better upgrade. Maybe I’ll just try that. I don’t think I want to mess with replacing the head unit though.
@mylesgray34703 жыл бұрын
@@HalfAznGuy You bet. The factory head unit was fine but I had some money to burn so I figured why not. Change the dash speakers though. Seriously.
@mylesgray34703 жыл бұрын
@@HalfAznGuy Just recalling my install, I only got one screw in and I used shoe-gu to hold the speaker and keep from rattling because these speakers are bigger than stock. I trimmed a little of the dash board plastic. Still fit under the factory cover nothing you can’t do in like a hour, start to finish. It’s worth the effort.

Anybody done this with a Prius that has the JBL premium system? I don't think there would be that much of a difference, just slightly different door speakers and the dash tweeters. I already have a full Android head unit and aftermarket 2 way Pioneer dash speakers on mine. Had to get a PAC Tato for the factory JBL amp to work properly. I'm just wondering if I should get a set of these for my front door speakers or if that will be an incorrect wattage load/ohm load on the JBL amp.
@mohsinafzal405 жыл бұрын
Hi.. did you get the full range of sound out of the 6x9s as they normally have a crossover to filter the sound so the highs go to the tweeters in the dash and mids and lows go to the in door speakers. Please reply as I am looking to do the same in mine but not sure if I'll get the full range of sound from the 6x9s and not just the bass and mids.. kind regards
@asim62674 жыл бұрын
Don't go for this upgrade bro, you will end up ruining base quality of your system, this upgrade is only good if you replace the head unit too.
