Changing Lanes I added a second AC to our 5th wheel that originally came with one in 30a configuration. Since then I converted the rig to 50a myself. I too opted for a heat pump, I find it’s much more useable than the hot furnace heat. Can you guys elaborate on that Energy Management System? I’d like to see what all they entail and get an idea of adding one is advantageous. Take Care, love your rig, it’s about 30 times what I paid for mine but I can dream.

Up grade furniture as most to keep cost down offer very low quality furniture. We upgraded our thore to Flex Steel. Also matress to a purple 4. With back problems i have owned every device and bed out there. By far the purple bed is the best over sleep number Tempropedic ect. It sleeps very cool springs back to shape the secound you move rather than like memery foam takes a few min to recover you never feel that hole you were sleeping in. And finnally beter head lights if your rig does not have LED head lights huge upgrade. Also an air horn package with 150 operating presure so you have the full capacity to air your tires. Often compressors dont cycle back on till 90 psig and tires take 100.

Let me tell you, having lived in apartments with single pane windows, double pane is worth every penny!!! I doubt it only raises the R value that low, but the sound abatement is really true. And in a motor home, condensation could be a killer a host for mold that you really don't want to worry about. Single pane is like having a hole in your wall. No joke.
@reddymon4 жыл бұрын
sebeckley As an architect I can say that dual pane glass raises the R value of the glass by much more than one. Typical for dual pane would be about R7 which is about three times more effective than single pane. Actual values will vary depending on the thickness of the glazing and the airspace and the airspace is often filled with an inert gas which also increases efficiency. Check actual values with your supplier.
@dutch45693 жыл бұрын
@@reddymon RV dual pane windows do not have any gas between them. They raise the R value, but not by very much. A little better for noise reduction. Mostly beneficial for stopping condensation

Higher load rated 110psi tires is a great upgrade. Seeing my 5'er making tight maneuvers then watching somebody else's sidewalls buckling makes me smile. A remote for the jack system, slides, and awnings makes setting up alone a breeze. Being able to adjust the kingpin height from inside the truck while backing up to it is awesome. The extra powered awning above the rear suspended patio helps keep the sun off the door and stop the black flooring from being unusable.
@ChangingLanes6 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm.. hadn't thought about using the remote to adjust the pin from the truck. Just wish it didn't take several steps to connect to the wifi, launch the app, put in a code, etc... Faster to get out and push a button. LOL But great option for when it's raining, etc. Thanks for the tip!

@@ChangingLanes my system came with a dedicated remote, no app, so it's a little simpler...unfortunately it looked like an ipod, and got stolen during a truck break-in. Now I'm debating whether I'm lazy enough to pay $400 to buy a new one.

I've watched many of your videos and find them very informative. Similar to you guys, we chose a toy hauler floorplan for the flexibility. We've got 2 kids, so they get the garage area for their bedroom. It's got a lot more flexibility to haul additional cargo or my motorcycle if we're on an extended trip, and just drop down the happijack bed at night. It's got a built in 30 gal gas tank to fuel the generator! Way better than burning propane when you're off the grid. Ours is only a TT, so doesn't have all the cool options, but would love the rear 3 season doors to make the patio more usable...we just have the pull down screen, so you really can't leave the rear deck down overnight. May ditch our deck stairs as well since they take up so much space and we so rarely actually use them. Also love the 3 A/C setup with the power mgmt system and the heat pump, which I would definitely get if we upgrade. Space heaters do the job when it gets cold, but I like the built-in option to heat with electricity and how it all works together without hauling additional clutter. We do fine with 2 A/Cs in hot weather, but our rig is a little smaller and we rarely keep the back door open...our kids also prefer a warmer bedroom for some odd reason. Ours only has a 6 gal water heater, so I'd consider an instant replacement. It's easy find yourself in a cold shower if you take your time or decide you can't wait 30 mins after the wife has hers.

Indeed.. all excellent points. Our water heater is 12 gallons, so we've never had an issue.. plus it's just the two of us. 🚿 Thanks for watching, Everett! 😊

Much to her chagrin..omg I thought I was the only person who still said that! I finally found an RV-life channel who still works full-time in IT....I'm convinced it is the "toy hauler" that can function best as a mobile office versus dinette,etc. However...I'm so afraid of hauling a hauler! I need lessons! I can't find one option that fills all the needs but if you work full-time you NEED a good office space with area for comfortable chair, sit/stand desk, multi-monitors... And then on top of all that..haz patio... It's perfect (if I could actually feel confident hauling alone in it)...

Great videos - very informative. So... We own a 43' Fuzion Chrome toy hauler. Our TV is a 2011 Chev Silverado 3500 HD DRW. Just yesterday I had the Fuzion in the shop to check brakes and pack wheel bearings. Previous to this RV we owned a 2005 Raptor 3612 and had a 2002 Chev Silverado 3500 HD DRW. From day one of owning the 2011 Chev and the 2015 Fuzion Chrome, we were going through front brakes, warping rotors and experiencing a great deal of pulsation and violent front-end shake. I'm back to a fresh set of Power Stop slotted/drilled rotors, ceramic pads, and new front calipers. So come to find out, we had two chafed trailer brake wire bundles on the right side, which they've replaced and re-loomed. This RV has never felt as if it had adequate braking, particularly since we live in the PNW and travel loads of mountain passes. At times even with the Allison trans brake and Duramax engine brake - it's been downright scary. So now the trailer brake wire issue is fixed and I've only towed the rig a few miles on flat ground. However, I'm still not impressed with the trailer brakes. The question for you might be... with your F350 and the integrated braking system, is it possible to lock the trailer brakes by manually adjusting and using the trailer brake controller? at 10-20 mph mine do not lock even on the maximum 10 setting. I assume your Momentum has drum brakes - correct? … Or did you opt for a electric over hydraulic disc system? Sorry for the lengthy comment, but I'd really like to hear about your steep country towing experience - if you've done any of that. Cheers... D2
@ChangingLanes5 жыл бұрын
We've had no issues at all towing in steep grades. Around 7-8% in some cases. Yes, we have drum brakes, but we also have six of them. Not sure if yours is double or triple axle. We can definitely lock up the brakes using the controller on about 8-8.5. I know they had some issues on the Lippert Axles for a while and GDRV switched to Dexter axles before we got out RV. Hope that helps! 😊
@AllMotoTireLLC5 жыл бұрын
@@ChangingLanes Thank you for the comeback. Indeed the Fuzion Chrome 403 is a 3 axle. I'm not sure however whether they're Dexter axles. You're the first person that I've found that could or would confirm whether one can lock the brakes on the trailer depending on gain setting. Mine certainly won't, even at low, low speeds and running the gain at 10. (Max). I have a tool coming to check the gain output at the rear 7-pin on the truck. I'm still suspicious of the entire trailer braking system AND the integrated brake controller. The RV dealer said all's peachy with the trailer brakes, but... It's frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a dealer here that can suss out the entire system as a whole. IMHO something just isn't right.
@ChangingLanes5 жыл бұрын
Something is definitely not right. As I understand it, the controller sends 0-12V. At max gain and controller pressed all the way, it should be 12V ad the 7pin and at the brakes. You might also pull a wheel or two and inspect the drums. Lippert had a run of axles where the bearing seals were bad, leaking grease into the brake drums. I think that was the main reason GDRV switched to Dexter.

I love your 5th wheel and I have heard great things about grand designs. I have a forest river 32 foot 5th wheel that's now 7 years old. The other day I found 4 cracks in my trailer frame at the axles. 2 on each side. Lippert is the frame manufacture and they only have a 1 year warranty on frames. I am so disappointed with Lipperts quality. They reviewed my comp,ain't and basically said it's to far out of warranty for them to help. To me this is a huge safety issue and am surprised that the RV industry is not held to a higher standard. Love your videos and your little puppy. Stay safe on your bike.

Our idea was to roll some carpeting over the floor to hide the tracks and prevent toe stubbing and tripping hazards when toys are not in the garage. I am interested in your thoughts and opinions on tying down toys and gear, and if I should pursue the e-tracks or not.

Coatings on the glass and using certain gasses to fill the space between window panes can increase the R value slightly, but the bottom like is that dual pane windows have at least twice the R value of single pane windows.

Thanks for watching! Double R value makes sense. We've had no issues with condensation either.

Last year (2017) we ordered a Momentum 350M with all the options you got except we didn't get the dual pane windows and we do sometimes get "sweat" on the inside so yes it was a good investment. We leave the patio steps at home, replaced the mattresses, all so simlar. It was kinda funny watching your vid's, you got the same propane monitors and I also upgraded our battery (yes only one battery) to a set of deep discharge golf cart batteries. Now the Lippert leveling system works all the time, that was frustrating. Looking forward to your battery vid you talked about making.

Well you must be parked in Florida near Tampa if that heat index was that high! I live in Florida near I4 and I75 intersection.... I was dying this summer from the heat. I want an RV just live yours so I can spend the summers up north! Thanks for sharing the tour and the top 5, appreciate it!

Just a thought. A little hand held battery powered blower would work wonders for blowing top of RV off. That’s what i use . A dewalt brand. I just put battery in and go up top and blow everything off. 👌 new viewer and love the channel

Been considering that! Already have a set of (likely) compatible Ryobi 18v batteries and various tools. Would be great for getting the puddles off the slide toppers also. Hmmmm Guess Home Depot is getting more of our money! Thanks for watching! 😎

We’re waiting for our 380FL to arrive. We bit on most of your favorites, including the custom paint... we didn’t get the king bed because of the side space, but that can easily be changed if our family bed hog (me) requires more space. Anxiously waiting to drag it down the road! Thanks for the videos. We really enjoy them and value the opinion. Happy Trails !!!!

While we don't have an RV, I found this video to be very informative and welll done. This would be a must see for someone shopping for an RV. I have a question. What is considered a "RV'? When is it considered a "Motor Home"? When is it considered a "Camper"? I figured out, to n my own, when it's considered a "tent,"!!!
@ChangingLanes6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! RV.. Most people go by how it's defined in wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recreational_vehicle): "a broad category of motor vehicles and trailers which include living quarters designed for temporary accommodation. Types of RVs include motorhomes, campervans, caravans (also known as travel trailers and camper trailers), fifth-wheel trailers, popup campers and truck campers." Motorhome is a self propelled RV (has it's own motor). Those are class A (bus style) and Class B (van-like with the over-cab)

GREAT video .... how much propane does the generator use .... anther way of asking do you change a bottles more often, I understand it depends on how long you run the generator.

Somethig I would do, where the outside entertainment system is, I would paint the inside of the door flat black. It seems that the white panel will reflect light and or reflect the picture from the TV. (Or paint it the darkest outside color that's on the trailer.)

Not a bad idea.. pretty easy to paint it flat black...

Love your videos!! You guys could have your own tv show. When you were looking into buying your fifth wheel, did you look at the luxe brand fifth wheel toy haulers? If so do you think the price difference would have been worth it for quality of the unit, and the amount of years you would be living in it. Do you think you will be replacing your unit down the road? How long do you plan on full time RVING? Thanks again for your videos, and any feed back you could give me.
@taxpayer99726 жыл бұрын
Insulation would be a great upgrade for a toy hauler. I had one that came with none. You would be amazed on how many toy haulers are built like the cheapest, good weather only, travel trailer with a big back door. Most toy haulers are over priced junk. Few are good .

Hi Guy's... I so enjoy watching the two of you on your travels.You talk about a lot of different things but have never talked about your axels.I will be doing the RV thing starting next spring and have checked out a number of fifth wheels. All of the heavier units have 8K axels. I understand MoRyde is a good brand. Could you give me some info on this. Would greatly appreciate it. I was also looking at the new GrandDesign rear kitchen, but read a lot of info on it needing heavier duty axels...?? Look forward to reading your reply. Thanks
@ChangingLanes5 жыл бұрын
We do go over axles and weight a bit here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmjVpqF6qN-LgrM Some of the dual axle rigs are pretty tight on weight when loaded to GVWR. The 390RK is rated at 16,800. 25% of that (on average) will be on the pin, leaving 12,600 on 14K of axles, which isn't too bad, but go over weight a bit and it can be close. If it became an issue, the axles could be upgraded to 8K, but that's after-market. MorRyde is standard now on the newest GDRV models. Hope that helps! 😊 Thanks for watching! 😊

Just discovered your channel and it's exactly what we are looking for as we plan our RV journey when my husband retires. We have decided to go with a toy hauler. We are having difficulty finding two full bathrooms. We are looking at a Heartland Road Warrior but can't find a showroom near us to view these in person to see if my husband can add a shower in the garage because they all seem to be half baths. I saw one shower toilet combo in a unit but can't remember which one it was. Have you seen any floorplans with two full baths?
Always worth the extra cash to go with a diesel generator, IMO. Never have to worry about fuel storage time that way. And duel pane windows have to lose/break their inner seal (between the panes) before they'll start to condensate. But once one does, if the break in the seal isn't big enough (or acts like a one way valve), the expansion of water vapor can actually crack the glass. Water expands 1600x when in converts to a vapor, which is what makes steam engines so powerful (and is why volcano's blow up when they've collected an underground pocket of water).

"Thank you guys for all the videos that you have made.. Could you sometime in the future.. Do a video on what it has approximately cost..to put your Grand Design together..& cost of your truck..Plus ..What does it cost to keep a rig like yours on the road.. I'm looking @ getting a rig similar to this in size for full time living & traveling.. We live in Gold Coast Qld Australia..& temperature's are extremely hot all year round..So we may have to import a 'Grand Design' from Florida.. We are at present looking through the RV website & there are many possibilities there..Once again thank you for the great videos..We look forward to seeing you make more..Safe travels..😊🙏😎..Doc J..

@@ChangingLanes I don't class that as expensive I class that as an investment. The quality paint will look after her much better then the stock version which will keep your re-sale value high....in fact you will probably gain more then 11 k if you were to sell... I am really enjoying watching your vlogs as I work from home selling online in USA got to love it!!!
