Hunan is my favorite, even more than Sichuan. I like its spicy flavor in a very direct, explosive way.
@tuckereats91463 ай бұрын
Yes I agree. Hunan is my favourite Chinese cuisine, Szechuan a close second. Though Indonesian cuisine is very different, I love it for the same reasons, strong unapologetic flavours, punchy spicy that’s balanced with the profile of the food. It’s food heaven!!

the stuff you had at the restaurant are what you would call rice topping dishes. they are usually too oily, salty, spicy, etc to be eaten by itself but with white rice it's a perfect combo. rice topping type dishes are a cheap way for the working class to fill up, a lot of rice with a little bit of heavily concentrated flavors. nowadays they sell this kind of stuff canned so you can just nuke it and mix with white rice. better than plain canned tuna with soy sauce we use to eat during my college years lol.

They actually forgot to give you a small rice bowl! Hunan cuisine is usually quite salty and must be eaten with rice. Every time they passed by you, they would glance at you, and each time I hoped they would notice that they hadn't given you a bowl. However, perhaps because this small shop seldom has foreigners come in, they seemed more curious than anything and never noticed the issue.

Wow, good observation! You know my Asian friends often are surprised that I eat the salty and spicy foods without rice. I love carbs, but limit my intake to keep my calories in check.

Chairman Mao lived in Shaoshan about an hour or so away. You can actually still visit his boy hood home and adjacent museum. Dongshan Academy in Xiangxiang can be visited as well where he went to school and organized his early days of Communist ideology. It still operates as an elite academy. Worth the visit.

12:30, You're supposed to have a bowl of rice (like the person in the background) and eat the sausage, & beans WITH the rice by each mouthful TO TASTE. This is why the ingredients are so flavor packed, you're supposed to moderate them by each bite with rice in our mouth. Not eat them straight.
@tuckereats91463 ай бұрын
I just had a similar comment from someone else. And yes I have heard that if you change the ratio of rice in each mouthful then you can control the strength of the flavour. It’s ok though because I love the strong flavour. A ratio of 1/0 (dish/rice) is a perfect ratio for Tucker Eats ☺️

not easy to give food review, it is very subjective and depend on a person flavour choice, i myself as a malaysian chinese untill today still can't take stinky tofu to eat
@tuckereats91463 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely! My palette is really demanding of strong flavours, so my preference is for Hunan, Szechuan and Indonesian food. However most of my friends prefer a less punchy flavour profile. As for stinky tofu, my first experience was in Taiwan 2019 and it was a struggle….. but now, when I smell it, I can’t resist!! Same thing with durian I guess. What’s your favourite cuisines/foods?
