When the trailer was first shown for this and it was to be on C4 i said to myself English people won't get this and it's not just and Irish comedy but it's specific to Derry so i thought people won't understand as being from Derry myself i have problems with people 20 miles away understanding me, so i'm happy to see there is plenty of English (and other's) who like it so thank's and keep enjoying.

Definitely worth watching. Laughed out loud a couple of times. They may need t dial back the accents though. I'm from Cork, and I had to rewind to listen again once or twice. Maybe the (mostly English) audience might find it too tough to understand? Would be a shame to lose authenticity - but maybe they could keep the accent and speak more slowly? Also, here in Cork, most people have a Cork accent, but only about 10% are really thick comedian type 'Cork.' I would assume the same is true of Derry/Londonderry and every place else? In other words, could this be authentic with a less pronounced accent? The adults were all easy to understand. It was just the girls themselves that spoke a little bit to fast, and only once or twice.
@joekelly97556 жыл бұрын
soniamadhukra I’m from Omagh and there are a few Derry ones that I know living here and that accent is totally real. I didn’t think it was over the top.
@lienayousif12936 жыл бұрын
Yeah the accent is pretty accurate

I think you're deaf. I'm from Yorkshire, England, and can understand American, Canadian, Australian, Caribbean, African, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Northern Irish, and the 56+ English accents perfectly fine. There's no such thing nowadays as an intelligible English speaking accent.
@shona55126 жыл бұрын
Have you ever talked to the northern Irish? particularly people from Derry? They don't breathe, they speak fast.. Why sacrifice authenticity just to dumb it down for others?
@danielgardecki10466 жыл бұрын
Shona It's the same with us Northerners in England. Southerners moan how they can't understand Scousers, Mancs, Geordies, and us from Yorkshire etc yet they can understand the accents in TV shows like Brookside, Little Boy Blue, Corrie, Shameless, Soldier Soldier, Byker Grove, Emmerdale, and Game of Thrones perfectly fine.

This should be good going by the first episode. The trailer that made me decide to watch it showed the Nun addressing the classroom about 'the troubles'. She said something like 'You don't need to worry about this whole sectarian conflict going on; just remember we're the goodies'. I thought that sentence just about sums up 90% of conflicts around the world so the series has got to be worth watching.
