I think its his OCD that earns him the permavirgin image. Excessive concern with petty details is a common trait of nerdy young boys. Everyone else outgrew that phase. Jon never did. And as much they like Jon in the end, everyone has also had a boss like Jon in their past. And they know if Jon was their boss he would enforce his neurosis on them like a religious despot of old. So there's a bit of resentment directed at him as well.

squaring the five is essentially 5 * 5 however there was only one five on the board so its taking advantage of a loophole that countdown typically wouldn't allow

@@cnelsonlv999 Because when the integer is positive (so always in Countdown) exponentation correspondends to multiplication. 5^2 is just 5*5, 5^3 is just 5*5*5, 5^4 is just 5*5*5*5, etc. so unless a contestant had multiple 5s on board it's illegal. When you write down "10^3" you're not using any threes in a mathematical equation, it's just a way of writing down "10*10*10" in a simpler way.

Some part of me believes that Rachel really fancies Jon and Jon fancies her. However I think Jon doesn't want to subject someone like Rachel to his oddities, whilst Rachel is constantly mesmerised on how intelligent Jon is whilst still being witty. He balances it so well that honest to god if he was just 5 inches taller, no man would stand a chance. I really wanted them to be together after the first few episodes. They really compliment each-other well, Jon's odd humour and Rachel's 'why not' jokes just makes countdown really fun to watch.
