This is 21st century Britain. But still there are people without homes, still people living rough on the streets, including some who are in work, even some doing vital jobs in the public sector, low paid and increasingly struggling to keep a roof over their heads. Central government doesn’t keep statistics on the ‘working homeless’. But we do know that overall the number of homeless people is once again on the rise.

I'm always so proud of the working homeless. My partner got a job when we were homeless for three months this year and held it down but he had all sorts of health issues at the time, like trench foot, and found it hard to find a shower. They have to go through so much, and still hold a job down anyway. That is to be respected.

Here is the root of the problem: Minimum wage jobs in the UK don't pay enough to sustain the price of living here. Any ideas how we can fix this?
@adrianrouse5148
@adrianrouse5148 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Minimum wage is not fit for purpose. It was brought in to stop farmers taking advantage of imigrants workers. Then all the factory's jumped on it to save themselves on wage bills. And governments have done nothing to stop them. Minimum wage is not a recommended wage. It's the lowest you can pay without breaking the law.

@@adrianrouse5148 actually the minium wage is extremely successful. The idea behind a minium wage is to set standardised minimum price for hourly labour cost. Without the minimum wage today, one company could employ some for £3 an hour while anther paid £12 an hour.

It's almost impossible for somebody to go to work when they' are sleeping at night on the streets living on the streets they have no where to cook a meal and no where to have a wash and have to get up in the morning and go to work,, nobody could do this for a very long before they give up.. I find it hard to understand why somebody would even want to go to work and pay taxes when the government of the day are prepared to allow these people to live on the streets.. When Norman tabith said a few years ago go out on your bike and look for work it won't come to you he put nothing in place for those people that may have found a job to have somewhere to sleep at night..

@@Christinebanks11 Homelessness has been a serious problem in the UK since at least 1980. But at least many years ago there were a lot of squats and cheap lodging houses which acted as a safety valve. At some point in the last century, someone came up with a unique and workable way to make houses faster and actually affordable. Cement anyone? This individual made a contraception that had the MOLD of an actual house. Cement was poured into this mold and left to set. When set, the mold of course was removed. These houses were finished off in record time. The reason it did not take was because people did not like the layout of the house - or something like that. Nowadays, this is a real solution and should be reconsidered as a viable way to solve a deliberately created problem under a pretense to force people to find work that is not there relative to the population. What do you think?

Slept rough for about a month in total, couple weeks in Miami and couple in Europe, broke and no money The main concern, esp. in Miami, is safety, and then that you are tried all the time and so cannot really get enough energy to work or get out of the situation, and then keeping clean and watching your stuff In Japan they have 'capsule hotels' which work quite well - if they had those in US or UK would help. In Europe and Canada you can sleep in a park in summer and is OK A few times I got a bed in a hostel by agreeing to clean which is a good deal The upshot is I am now 50 and worth over a million so it worked out Problem now-a-days is that the dope-cannabis is too strong and makes you dumb, empty and 'gloomy on the pipe', i.e. short fused when not smoking usually

Britain has been heading that way for years. More so since 2016, the Brexit fiasco and Trump's calamitous America. Same politics, same chaos. Little brother trying to emulate its big brother.

I am not smartest ! It come from my own experience from the past ! Try to find privately rent rooms without agency's- is hart to find but is possible. No bank account? HSBC bank offer bank account without proof of address. Find / buy cheap (no MoT,insurance,road tax) van size of vauxhall combo, Peugeot Partner you will have space for two people and so called own place you can park on driveway or plot of land for free or small fee (£100 a month) is safer than sleeping on the street ! I've seen "few" time homeless people has been assaulted on London streets. You can try to stay at work place if your boss will agree - keep place clean and tidy ...

It won't be long before I probably find myself in this situation again but with my children in tow, plans are in the making but I find many people round me in the same situation who don't posses the skills I have to do what must be done and survive I long understood that I can't and won't rely on the government as when I did I found myself left in despair and would rather live in a tent than put up with the nasty tricks they pull getting you into debt with them and there constant goal post changes so off grid is were we shall go

They had a homeless situation long before they opened the immigration flood gates however I'm very happy that it's their fellow European brethren that are bleeding their system dry

@@ohmygosh4761 you’d like to think that, as your underpinning mentality is outright hatred for Europeans and White people. The reality is it’s both East Europeans and Middle Eastern South Asian immigrants swamping the system

Perhaps the homeless can speak with a foreign accent and claim to be refugees and they will quickly be given hotel accommodation

That is in Ealing. A lot of the people that attend that Centre are not homeless. Around 65% that attend that Centre are lonely and find it useful to obtain handouts meant for homeless user's.
