Labour reveals first steps of a Starmer government

The Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced the six first steps his government would make if he wins the General Election later this year. The promises include cutting NHS waiting lists and recruiting more teachers. But the overarching theme was stability and caution with the public finances.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Sir Keir said the policies were a "down payment on change" and he blamed the economic crisis during Liz Truss's premiership for the fact that he was not being more ambitious.

Imagine still believing this. We could’ve stopped the Tories and had a completely different path in 2015. Yet all I heard was “both parties are the same”. Absolute nonsense. If you remember Ed Miliband would’ve increased NHS spending, implemented a mansion tax, preserved our membership of the EU, nationalized the railways, and become the first major country to recognize Palestine. Your viewpoint is so self-destructive.

So ending zero hour contracts, stopping channel crossers, making houses more affordable and preventing rich landlords from buying up homes and renting them out to multiple not-well-off young people are not part of your first steps in power Sir Keir?.... Still not got my vote yet then.

From the self-consciously rolled up sleeves (an obvious visual metaphor for hard work) to the Blairite 'pledge card' retread, I found this pre-election launch less than compelling, and I am a Labour supporter!

I'd like to know how he wants to retain teachers. He's first got to recognise why they are leaving the profession in droves and then bring in a dramatic culture change to our education system.

I don't understand the negativity of the interviewer at 3:48. Surely if the shortfall is halved, that is good, no? They would be an incoming government. What use is there making a more ambitious promise if they can't deliver it. If they have this goal of halving the shortfall and they breeze past it and do better, then that's good, is it not? Whereas if they promise to completely erase the shortfall and fail to meet that target they will be criticised. Sometimes you just can't win with journalists.

You’d rather see sunak back in Downing Street than a Labour government? Really? Look to the other MPs and potential candidates not just the leader. Labour has some great MPs who will be in government soon - whilst I’m not warm to Starmer either it’s better than Tory Britain. Absolutely vote green or independent where there is a chance of them winning but I wouldn’t bother if it’s a pure Tory vs Labour contest in your constituency.

The literal only reason Starmer is becoming PM is due to fact he is simply here at the right time. He has no leadership qualities or beneficial factors. I don't agree with Boris on much if anything but he was certainly right calling Starmer a bollard.
