The problem is not admitting refugees per se, but admitting too many of them at once which allows them to segregate into their own communities. Having 2 refugees within a 100 english people community, is fine. Bring 20 refugees in a 100 english people community, and you end up with a segregated society. So, things must be done in small numbers and slowly, hence the border control makes perfect sense in a practical reality. Otherwise, I wish we could do open borders, to live in borderless world, but reality is teaching me a lesson and forces me to be practical.

There may be no bullets or bombs here - only economic and social torpedoes - but the invasion continues. We are under attack.

Certainly we want to avoid segregation, but if I was a Syrian refuge being resettled, I would probably want to be able to see other people who can speak my language/ know what I'm going through. What are your thoughts on this?
@Peteristrate8 жыл бұрын
If you were a syrian legal immigrant (not refugee) you would come to UK and have no problem living and talking to english people. You wouldn't actively look for other syrians. You would look for other syrians pasively, adn you would meet some who are already integrated here. But if you are a refugee, why would you need ONLY other syrians to live among ? If yuo want to live in a bubble, with no connections with the outer world, then that is a problem because you would not integrate. I'm a romanian immigrant myself and I don't die for meeting other romanians. I've found some ocassionally, but I lived with english people as well, and i learned their language and habbits, you know ? : ))
@Yessir4328 жыл бұрын
Peter Istrate I didn't say ONLY Syrians, but I think SOME would go some way to alleviate the feeling of isolation and possibly help them integrate faster. Also as I said, it would be another person who can understand what they went through.

Peter, let's look at your example... "Bring 20 refugees in a 100 english people community, and you end up with a segregated society". Well we already have that situation in Wales, where 20% of the residents were born in England. Do you have any thoughts on how we could reverse that trend?

Before you let people make sure that there is a job waiting for them and a place to rent so us the tax payer aren’t paying , and this is why the pension age has gone up for us British people. the government is pulling a fast one over us ? And using our pension to pay them

If one is to take in refugees, one must do it properly. Make sure they have the essentials and make sure there are resources in place to make the whole operation workable. Many refugees in Sweden and Germany are mesmerised as to why the governments would welcome them knowing that there is insufficient resources, job opportunities etc. If one is to take refugees, you take what you know you can absorb from the get go. Don´t take a "act now, ask questions later". This is what makes people turn on new comers. If citizens know that the government is adopting a realistic approach, this will reduce the tensions that often comes in these situations.

I understand what you mean, but there are so many refugees in need. Surely if you were a refugee, moderate safety (i.e. Germany) is better than no safety at all?

The single female economic migrant should have been asked if she had considered countries in other parts of the world - SE Asia, perhaps. Did she give the thumbs down to such countries as South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Viet Nam and Indonesia, and if so - why ?
