Titanic's central themes revolved around a backdrop of the class system, wealth inequality and societal expectations of female behavior. To say there's no politics in that film isn't accurate. Other than that, i've got a lot of time for Mhairi Black. Very engaging and honest communicator, and gives me hope, along with Corbyn that politics is evolving.
@henderz1747 жыл бұрын
The question was based on how Titanic relates to Mhairi Black in her life. One would assume her playing Titanic is a metaphor for her political desire to lead an Independent Scotland in a life boat, leaving the UK behind. It wasn't about the movie, just Mhairi Black.

+qwertyuiopasdf637 Your view of the world is no way represented by the SNP, the SNP are centralist in action. They have hamstrung the councils and centralised most things like the police and the fire service. There is a plan for the councils to become only six, thats further centralisation not a greate opening of local democracy. I don't care if the parliament is in London or Edinburgh especially if none of them are saying anything different. The SNP are enacting austerity on Britain they are failing to live up to left wing values, they have followed purely right wing economic values, tax cuts for the rich both indivdually and at a company level. The council tax freeze benefits the richer citizens of the councils not the poorer as the poor overwhlemingly use the services provided by the council including the extra ones which have essentially disappeared. Soon this is going to completely ruin our local governance. The SNP speak about powers to allow Scotland to be more economicically dynamic which makes sense in a way. If a situation can be jumped upon faster by having a closer legislative body enact it faster than fair enough but this is totally been undone by the SNPs refusal to allow local councils take the same economic independence. they believe in centralisation. They believe in One voice not many. The Syria vote was a classic they absolutely harrangued LAbour for not putting a whip on saying that Jeremy Corbyn was failing, failing because he was unwilling to force his fellow parliamentarians vote for something they completely disagreed with. To make matters worse they trumpeted their own absolute rejection of bombing Syria fair enough but this was done under a three line whip something that should not be needed considering all SNP MPS did not believe in bombing why was the party not allowed to show itself truly of that view by allowing a free vote and showing that without the party breathing done their neck they would take the correct moral choice instead they screamed for freedom while chaffing at their own collars and chains.

@499PUCK8 жыл бұрын
No politics in Titanic? The division of classes. The obsession with more speed and more size. And the final nail the arrogance, that the ship was unsinkable. Aren't these the real story of politics? Each political party has a class base. Each party wants more of something. And if that more is not done now we will all die. Arrogance seems to be the worn as a badge of honor. The world travels at 100 MPH with knowledge expanding in every area at a rate NO ONE can keep up with out of their field of study. The idea that a group of people that have stopped their education, no longer work or live in regular society and earn a wage two to three times larger then the majority of their society can have a grasp on the regular day to day living is a joke. The time has come to put an age cap on being in government.

Point 1) Leaving the British Union to join the European Union = Independence. How? Point 2) How can anyone be for affordable housing and higher wages and at the same time support mass immigration and open borders? High demand = low wages and high property prices and high rents. Yes, you could tax the crap out of the richest people, but do that and most of them will just transfer their wealth abroad or move to a cheaper country, as they always do. "No politics in Titanic"?! Are you serious, Jon Snow? Try telling that to all the poor people who were left to sink with the ship, while their rich counterparts sailed off into the future! With every Mhairi Black speech and interview I see, my faith in my fellow Scots and humanity comes that bit closer to being restored!

I'm sure she will "fight" for her constituents with relentless passion. She stood up in the commons chamber and gave a speech. Well... is that really such an admirable achievement for a 20 year old, final year university student? ... Really... I mean ... she raised some very concerning issues within the UK today.... spoke clearly, eloquently and some polite humour too .... great... but what solutions did she offer other than party rhetoric? OK ... a maiden speech... bit harsh maybe.... But this fawning over her, presenting her as this inspirational figure for us all and especially the young.... All she has done is get elected... on the back of a surge of Scottish home pride... X factor sounds about right... Let's wait till she releases her album before hailing her as the bright new star on the political scene. Oh yeah and .... Still using the honking line that the UK is finished, but the EU is the way forward? .... You are a Unionist Mhairi!!!! .... It's just you and your party think you'll have better luck negotiating a fair deal for the Scottish part of one when most of the other delegates in the chamber don't speak the same language.... Brilliant.

Mhairi is not down there to settle in but to settle up. Your problem with Labour is the Bain Principle. If you don't know what that is. William Thomas Bain (born 29 November 1972) is a Scottish Labour Party politician who was ... Labour MPs have a convention of not supporting motions put down by the Scottish National Party, which became known as the "Bain Principle". Reason, why Scotland crushed Labour in Scotland - Total incompetence

could some intellectually sound scot please explain to me why u wud support independence from the uk (which I support I must add) to then surrender that power to a unaccountable centralised anti-democratic institution like the European union. it makes no sense to me at all.

+MusbCrazy80 Don't talk about "Intellectually sound Scots" when you can't even start a sentence with a capital letter. By the way, it's you, not u. I smell the intellect of a UKIP voter.

+Tiger Eye lmao. u may wish to spell check ur nonsense reply. what sense i can make out of it. #ooops! i dont support any political party. im way too switched on to fall for their bullshit. and by their i mean them all...including the snp. all willing to tell u exactly what u want 2 hear in order to get their dirty grubby mits on "that power". my question was a genuine attempt to get an understanding from a scottish voter who is strongly in favour of independence...who values the importance of self governance why on earth theyd then happily join a much more undemocratic structure where the scottish people dont get to ellect its members...have no say on individual poilcy terms and have absolutely no power to remove elected officials. you think gettin answers from london was hard....good luck with brussels lol. why is it when anyone asks a question the response of many it refers 2 is to try attack the credibilty o
@MusbCrazy809 жыл бұрын
+Tiger Eye of that person. or in ur case instead of actually addressing the point i made u tried to link my skepticism of the EU as a sure UKIP supporter whilst highlighting my style of writing with that as some type of confirmation of proof of a lack of intelligence on my part. im sure any reasonable person who reads both our comments impartially will recognise who here is lacking in substance. but if you did want to attempt to actually answer the question i posed you may not look quite so intellectually baron as u do at present.

@5888max8 жыл бұрын
That might prove difficult -if you get your wish and the leave campaign wins this current referendum as by 2020 ,Scotland will be a foreign country to you if as it seems you are English. But if you are a Scot as the UK will have ceased to exist so it will not need a independence party and you will have to Stand against her as something else
@monarchist18388 жыл бұрын
+5888max we need a strong unionist voice against the SNP. I voted for Douglas Alexander in the election, he was a fine MP although I don't entirely agree with Labour. The SNP want to drag us out of Britain and into Brussels. I think Scotland could do better.

Matt 18 I voted No in the Scottish indy vote ,partly because I didn't want to take the risk of leaving the EU .I wish I had voted differently but I am in no mood for yet another bloody referendum But ''fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me'' I will support Scottish Independence if asked from now on
