What's frustrating is that the Tories had every opportunity to learn from what happened in Scotland and avoid the same thing for England; instead they've messed with the futures of young people, costing many of them their choice of university and inflicting incredible stress. The same thing happened with COVID-19, where they had every opportunity to learn from Italy but instead inflicted us with the highest death toll in Europe. With that track record, what is honestly the chance that Brexit will be handled well?
@christinef57854 жыл бұрын
I went to a high performing academy in the mid seveties. Unfortunately a student 5 minutes before the olevel was due to start had a full blown tonic clonic seizure. Most of us hadnt seen this before and very distressed to witness it. Consquently half the year failed the exam so the principal and the head of department appealed. It was turned down, depite getting excellent grades in the prelims! However we accepted the outcome and just got on with it! Stands to reason that not everybody who gets good results in the mocks actually passes the actual exam! I think this situation is going to come back and bite us in the posterior!
@sebfox21944 жыл бұрын
It's true that not everyone who does well in the mock does well in the actual exam, but then some students go the other way and do better in the final exam than they did in the mock. Moreover, it's hardly fair to arbitrarily give so many A and B track students much lower grades without them even having a chance to take the exam. In the case of an emergency, such a global pandemic it's better to have slightly inflated grades for some people, rather than unfairly punishing so many good students simply on the basis of which school they attend. Any overinflated students will be properly graded in University afterwards anyway. The algorithm used added/subtracted points for whether you went to a high performing school or not, which would clearly mark down the top students from any below average performing schools. Even the worst schools usually have a few top students who get A's, and those students are deserve their A's as much as anyone who goes to a better school. It's the individual students who should be graded not the schools. I went to a school that had only around 25% of students getting 5 A*-C grades at GCSE, but just because 75% of the students performed poorly, doesn't mean that you should mark down the 25% that did well simply because they happened to go to a poorly performing school. School choices for most people are limited to where they happen to live, and so exam results should not be decided by postcode. It's actually pretty disgraceful that such a metric was considered in the first place.
@sallybilzon35074 жыл бұрын
No matter what the final results are there are at least two issues to be raised: 1 The education system is far from equal and is inconsistent in its management and 2. A generation of university students will have gained access without ever sitting the exam - mocks don't count.
@johnelliott23644 жыл бұрын
This entire situation is a national disgrace. What could be simpler and more reassuring than the Government accepting the teachers assessments as they are the professionals who know best the ability of the students under their care. It is just typical that Politicians listen more to their so-called advisers and civil servants rather than experienced education professionals who know what is best. This is why I do not vote anymore as everything politicians of all parties touch results in failure and turns to dust. They cannot do anything right and I am sick and tired of it. I would like to vote for a party because I know they will change things for the better rather than voting for the lesser of the evils available. Have students and school children not gone through enough in recent months with having this disaster to deal with?

I think people don’t know the difference between CAGs and predicted grades. They are different and shouldn’t be used interchangeably. Predicted grades are what teacher give you to put on your ucas form to apply to the unis you want. Just cos you have predicted grades A*AA does not mean that’s where you are at. It may well be that you are at that level but the truth is that 95% teachers boost your predicted grades so that you can at least apply to the uni you want and get an offer, and then it’s down to you to get those grades in the exam. CAGs are what the teachers had to predict you to most likely get also issuing a rank order for each student. So people who say their predicted grades were high but didn’t get into their dream uni are either using the words ‘predicted grades’ and ‘CAGs’ wrong, or are in denial that their teachers boosted their predicted grades so that they can apply. Nevertheless what we can agree on is that the algorithm was dumb
@andrewlawrie22694 жыл бұрын
People who say that the went from B to U or A to D are retarded. The algorithm did not do that. They may have got a boosted predicted grade to apply for uni for example a B, then their CAG ( fairest result) was like a C or D then got a E after the algorithm. No one has a CAG of B but then gets downgraded by 4 grades due to the algorithm. Like I said people are either in denial that their predicted grades were boosted by their teachers or are using predicted grades and CAGs in the wrong context

On the other hand the Sri Lankan government is doing all it's best to provide AL 2020 students an opportunity to do well at exams by postponing by 2 to 3 months and by offering few optional questions without bringing down the high standars of Sri Lanka ALs A disappointed parent

Would it possible to drop the predicted grades for universities to have their own entry exam? Many other countries have them. It would prevent any teacher bias to start with... Universities could have been allowed to hold the exams along the first lifting of lockdown measures! Normally, the entry exams could be coordinated to be held a week or two after A-level exams or whatever period suits them.

God send his Son Jesus Christ to save you from all your sins. As He said in the book of *John **3:16* - _For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe on him should not perish, but have everlasting life._ *Christ died* on the cross for your sins, *was buried* and third day *He rose from the dead* - *1Corinthians 15:1-4 Gospel of Salvation* What it means? It means your death has been paid! What death? The death of sin. _The wage of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord_ - *Romans **6:23* Believe him and you will be saved. It's simple. As Paul said in the book of *Ephesians 2:8-9* - _For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast._ Be good person means nothing. Why? Because we are not saved by works, but by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. *What to do to became a child of God?* *A* - Admit you are a sinner in need of a Savior. As it is written: _There is non righteous, no, not one_ - *Romans **3:10**.* _For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God_ - *Romans **3:23* *B* - Believe on finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the Cross - Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried and He rose again the third day - 1Corinthians 15:1-4. If you want to enter to the Kingdom of Heaven, you must be like a child - children trust their parents. Why I mention parents? Because God is our Creator (Genesis 1:27), He is our Father, He is our Parent - _Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart_ - *Jeremiah 1:5* *C* - Call on the name of the Lord and you will be saved. _If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved_ - *Romans 10:9-10.* _For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved_ - *Romans **10:13**.* Jesus Christ is the shower/water, that cleans us of all unrighteousness. _Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; thought they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool_ - *Isaiah **1:18* Shalom and God bless you all ♥️🙏

@chiexe4 жыл бұрын
international students weren't affected by this as much as the UK students were but unfortunately it did happen to some. what they will do is to appeal for a better grade but that also doesn't necessarily mean that the grades will be changed.

@@chiexe noted. Am a teacher and some of my students were affected. Infact they are on my neck asking what I predicted for them so that they can expect justice. I feel it will be unfair if they do so only to the UK students

Bob Neill fails to actual address issues. He fails to really address that Williamson should have been talking to other countries including how they have already dealt with grade awarding and where they success and failures were (including the IB which isn't country based). Instead, he pretends that everyone should be working in isolation so that Williamson isn't picked up for dragging his feet (not that I suspect it really would have made any difference as he seems to know nothing about education, educational systems, assessment, algorithms or teaching although he does a great line in avoidance). I feel he should be getting blame at this point mainly because he didn't respond quickly enough (he probably actually had no idea what he was doing anyway), he hasn't actually apologised honestly and sincerely (which is a first step in avoiding blame), hasn't talked about a way forwards or leaning from mistakes for the future (which really is where the majority of the blame should fall) and is blaming someone else (definitely isn't doing his job of leadership). Finally, at least some credibility should have been given to continuously assessed and externally moderated work as these would have been reasonably reliable data points - except that some moron decided to remove this type of assessment to favour on demand examinations for no educationally valid reason. Sorry, I spelled Gove as moron, an easy mistake to make. I also deny that any of this is due to the UK's leading government education thinkers holding no qualifications in education or teaching although (allegedly) able to be a journalist, fireplace salesperson and a eugenicist.
