U.s. used to grant "temporary seasonal workers" passes so farm workers could come and work on farms every year until the harvest was done... Then they would return to mexico and return the following season and so on... That system worked well.... Why can't we go back to that?

That being said, I do appreciate the sentiment. To be honest, I do think this western reliance on importing people from the 3rd world to do important work like farming is incredibly foolish. The government ether needs to find a way of rebuilding the home grown workforce, or drastically invest more in automation and have those jobs replaced by robots.

If they're here LEGALLY, it can be a huge help, not always. If crops could have been produced with them, and not without them, the money is a place holder for value, and the increase in goods available to Americans means cheaper goods. Otherwise the empty field can be a complete loss, supposing it is not an intentional crop rotation strategy. Economic policy should focus on getting Americans more food, clothing, housing etc. for their unit of labor, not focusing on the fiat currency. However, when they take jobs or benefits meant for Americans, that value diminishes if you are focusing on working class Americans.
