To me if i can take two morals from this movie is that if Russ it best to come to terms with the past and that sometimes being a jerk around people is never going to make you any better and with Russ father being older shows you realize your mistakes and now knowing how much harm your actions did to those around you but trying to make things right with people you hurt won't always mean they will forgive you it best to accept that somethings won't work even if you try to set things right

It really is a smart little movie, I like how it sets up this whole arc about the guy supposedly having to teach the kid how to fight the bullies only for the real purpose of it all being for him to accept what happened that day and that it really wasn't his fault, so in the end he could become the man he actually wanted to be as a kid.

One of my favorite family movies. It's funny, but also kind of heartbreaking in the third act. One of the scenes that stuck with me the most was Bruce Willis watching his father viciously scolding his younger self for fighting at school and bringing the mother down there when she should've been resting. As someone with a strict father, I really resonated with that scene, and I found it healing when Willis said to his younger self afterward "It's not your fault, dad just said those things because he's scared."

plus when you Russ's father now older and him realizing what he turn himself into shows he saw how much harm his actions had done and wanted Russ to not become something like Him as Sometimes a parent realize their mistakes and want to help their kid or see they turn themselfs for the worst and want to make sure to help save or get their kid to come back to theme

There's a really educational channel called Cinema Therapy that mentions in a few of its videos the idea of the facts of your past won't change but the meaning behind them can. And I think this movie The Kid is great with that idea. Bruce Willis does not change what happens to him as a kid that caused him to be a jerk, but by the end, he is able to realize why it happened, how it wasn't his fault, and how he can better himself for the future. I think the movie was smarter than anyone expected and I love it for that

This movie feels like a really solid Twilight Zone episode that got stretched into a feature length story. This is a perfect review summary of this movie that I would also recommend, it’s not perfect, there are inconsistencies and annoying moments that I just fast forward or skip to the next scene, but the ending hit me because I think we all have moments from our childhood that kinda shook us and changed us a little bit, and this movie shows it’s okay that it happens because that’s real life. It’s a movie that I didn’t watch during my childhood, i would just see the preview on the Remember the Titans VHS and i thought it looked funny but I don’t think I was ready for the ending and yes, I also love Emily Mortimer in everything she’s in, especially in Match Point. The Marc Shaiman music can get a little annoying in this like in the Mary Poppins sequel but just like the performances, when it’s more restrained and calmer it really hits me in the gut. Merry Christmas by the way Doug!

I've been waiting years for you to review this one, thank you!!! I was 12 when this came out in theaters and it was one of my favorite movies for a while (I was just getting into Bruce Willis), but looking back at it now, I think it has a similar problem to Hunchback of Notre Dame. The story and the themes are strong, but because the film is marketed at a family audience, the tone is inconsistent, sometimes too goofy and childish. I think it should have been PG-13, not because I think kids shouldn't watch a film like this, but because I don't know how many kids will appreciate a story that is essentially about a midlife crisis. SPOILER ALERT: I wish you had done a spoiler tag on this one, because I wanted you to talk more in detail about the scene where his dad yells at young Rusty and reveals that his mother is dying, as well as Russ hugging him afterwards. And like you, I loved the final reveal that he gets everything he wanted as a kid, but he didn't have to change the past to do it, because he got those dreams later. It also would have been great to hear you talk about Lily Tomlin, who is a national treasure, and quite hilarious here. Otherwise, thank you for the review!!!

I remember watching this movie back in my 4th grade English classroom on a Friday. And it's interesting how this movie is 1 of 4 movies where Bruce Willis meets his younger self. Surrogates, 12 monkeys, and Looper being the other 3. After Looper I chalked this up to a Bruce Willis cliche.

I was still a kid when I saw this, but my memory is that I loved the acting, I loved Bruce and Spencer as younger and older versions of each other, I loved the premise, but I don't remember anything specific about the movie or plot besides that it was really boring 80% of the time, that other 20% was really neat tho.. I should rewatch it, because even barely remembering it, it still pops up a lot in my mind over a decade later

I think his saddest role since his retirement is in Armageddon where his character performs a heroic sacrifice before telling his daughter that he'll always love her.

It was definitely the first movie I saw with Spencer Breslin. I think it was the first Bruce Wllis movie, I can't remember if I saw Sixth Sense before or after. Either way I agree the movie was strange but had a great third act pay off. Spoilers: It was wonderful for older Rusty to see his older self with an older Amy and a dog named Chester and the next scene shows Rusty carrying a puppy version of the dog to Amy and figured that's where his future begins. It was strange they went into as much detail they did to answer the question raised about the moon being orange and they added at the end of it ...just in case your wondering. Found it intriguing and funny

This movie was also out right at the time Willis was doing The Whole 9 Yards and The Whole 10 Yards with Mathew Perry. Mathew Perry has an uncredited cameo in this movie and was totally unrecognizable...but his body language gives him away. The first time I saw this movie it really bugged me that there was something so familiar about this actor, it took me a couple minutes and then it finally hit me who he was.

I think this movie works because everyone in the movie is 1000% on board. Each actor knew every part of their character, down to the small bit-parts. And that makes all the difference in characters that are “boring”.
