You know what would've been a better twist for this film? What if being built up as the mouse Messiah caused Timmy to become an arrogant, power-hungry villain, and Martin had to be the one to stop him?

@ariannarubin33686 жыл бұрын
Elijah Conger Yeah I always thought this movie would’ve been better if Timmy had been the villain instead of Martin. We actually know Martin better from the first one (hence his evolution from brat to hero) and there’s a kind of tragic element to Timmy going bad to due his sickness in the first one.
@emilymarley45056 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that would be a fantastic film. Martin could have still been abducted but then escaped, arrived at Thornvalley where he sees what Timmy has become. Then Martin and his mother, Mrs Brisby, could have teamed up to fight Timmy and had some heartwrenching scenes like in the original. Also, Mrs Brisby would get her statue.
@thecinematicmind7 жыл бұрын
The fact they make statues of Timmy and Jonathan Brisby but don't bother to have Mrs Brisby a statue is like a complete middle finger to everyone who loved the first, myself included.

Technically Martin defeated Dr. Valentine, so with that logic in mind isn’t technically he the chosen one? The prophecy never said it was Timmy specifically, just a son of Jonathan Brigsby

nope. he actually reduces valentine to a dog like the others. it's part of the twist. he's masked in shadow, sitting in an office chair as the characters look up in fear. the we hear eric idle say, "Here Dr. Valentine, Fetch!" and the drooling scientist falls to the floor chasing it.

Fun fact: in the Harry Potter books, it's explicitly stated that the prophecy being public was bad because it railroaded people's expectations and made them complacent, and part fo the reason Dumbledor had to send Harry to live with people who would not teach him anything about magic was so that he wouldn't know the prophecy from the start, so that he'd learn to be more reliant on himself and also not get a swollen ego. So, even in Harry Potter, the writer was aware that you don't praise children for things like this.

AND even after Dumbledore told Harry about said prophecy he openly said, "Don't tell anyone. Ron and Hermione are trustworthy but let's keep this to a severe minimum because if Voldemort knows then dude we're fucked because that's literally what he was trying to get in the Department of Mysteries." The only reason it was out in the open in the movies, was because it's more dramatic for people to know. (And it allowed for a couple comedic moments) Besides, even there, the prophecy wasn't known by anyone until the end of Order of the Phoenix. It's not something that everyone always knew and bothered him with. Harry was famous because of something he barely remembered doing, and he did still DO something, but since most everyone believed that Voldemort was now dead there was no thought that he would NEED to fight him for real later.

Fun fact: Don Bluth did actually make considerations for making an original sequel to the Secret of NIMH. In fact, to make sure you like this new main character, we've undermined the previous main characters accomplishments. Please like this character! Both Ms. Brisby and Luke Skywalker's treatment were a result of sexism. It works both ways people.

When Timmy got rid of the snake as a kid, he showed some ingenuity and improvisation with various materials. He has shown himself to be intelligent and quick on his feet in that moment, but was immediately admonished for showing even the slightest amount of competence. So from childhood he is discouraged from cultivating his advantages and they have clearly taught him nothing. No wonder he grew up to be utterly useless :P

Dare I suggest ways to actually fix this movie? From what I see, if it had been handled differently, it MIGHT have worked. How about this: 1- Include Mrs. Brisby's statue by Jonathan's. They erected her a statue as a way of thanking her for her courage. 2- Have Martin not be there in the beginning. Say he disappeared after the events of the first film. They searched everywhere, but found no sign of him. Mrs. Brisby didn't want to give up, but the others assumed he was dead. Therefore, Nicodemus' prophecy (let's keep that for the sake of a plot) would have to be fulfilled by Timmy. So he's sent to Thorn Valley to begin his training. 3- As he grows up, he has flashbacks of the last time he saw Martin. His older brother talking about wanting to be a hero like his father. To go out in the world and do something big. So he had run away and nobody had seen him since. 4- While training Timmy, the master would let him know that although he is destined for great things, he must take them in SMALL doses. Take it slowly, not try to take the world all in one go. He is young, reckless and will make mistakes. 5- Keep the subplot about Martin turning evil. It would be the result of experiments done by a mad doctor at NIMH. When Martin gained super intelligence, he would have killed the doctor and taken over his work. Thus adding a DARK element to our story. So when Martin is redeemed, he realizes the horrible deeds he's done. So, how about it? Would those changes have helped the movie? Even a little?

The biggest issue with Nimh 2 is because of how ridiculously silly, I would of loved seeing the world explore on how more experiments were being done and what were the results. And I like the designs of thorn valley, had if the writers didn't get so silly with their work, especially with the singing being added which should of never have been thought for the film. Nimh 2 is one of the most silly written films I've ever seen that weakens what Nimh of both book and movie is supposed to be.

Worst of all, this concept actually had really much potential to be good. Ignore the stupid prophecy, just don't have it. Give Mrs Birsby more credit, include her other kids more, keep the dark tone and keep the characters to the people they were in the first movie. It could have been a good movie about the son of Jonathan and how he comes to NIMH after it's only shown in a Flashback in the first movie. Could actually have been really good if they would have kept the style and the tone of the first movie, AND NOT TURN HIM INTO MESSIAH

Funnily enough, this movie is technically based on an actual book (though very loosely). There was a sequel to "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" (yes, her name was Frisby in the book) where Timmy was the main protagonist. However, it kept the dark tone and had a pretty different story.
@Enter_the_Toshiverse_19963 жыл бұрын
I think the twist of Martin being the villain could've worked if he was the prophesied hero, he could've become arrogant and narcissistic from all the unearned praise and demanded to be placed in charge of Thorn Valley. Then, he still gets kidnapped by the scientist and turned into a villain, only it would've made more sense since he was already powermad. And then Timmy could find out and go rescue him

19:38 This is a good and un-answered question considering that she did two major things for the rats that helped them journey to Thorn Valley. First, she drugged Dragon's food. Now this changed everything because any other mouse would have probably ran sooner. And if she had ran a bit sooner, she probably wouldn't have been caught by Billy, and then he wouldn't have put her in "PoRgY's OlD cAgE" (which allowed her to listen to Paul's conversation with the people of the National Institute of Mental Health). That way, she wouldn't be able to warn the rats, which was the second major thing she did for them in the morning.

Going to make an unrelated comment here: WAS Harry treated like a prodigy in HP? I always took it as everyone going "Holy shit, you lived", not everyone expecting him to be the messiah. He was praised a lot fo his quiddich skills, but there's a difference between being good at sports and being a messiah. In regular classes, he did about average, if I remember right. But yeah, Hogwarts is a terrible school- a giant monster attacking students and most places would begin with mass evacuation, but Hogwarts is like, nah. Isss fine! XD

4:58 - 5:20 : Here's the thing. Harry was not raised lovingly to begin with (seriously, it's cruel how badly the Dursleys treated him). Therefore, when he found out that he was famous, he didn't let that fame go to his head too often, if ever. And it's because of the way he was raised that he turned down Draco Malfoy's offer to be friends (seeing too much of Dudley in him), put his own life on the line multiple times to save his friends and the world he never knew he was born to, and even let the man who killed his parents kill HIM (or at least attempt to) if it meant putting that man one step closer to his downfall.
