One early story for the film was quite different than what ended up on screen: According to an interview with Empire Magazine, it had humanity accidentally shoot down another alien ship, only to have the aliens land on the White House Lawn at the end of the film and say that they came in peace, which was supposedly the big theme of the film. Given how the sphere is introduced in the film, at least a germ of that idea remained.

I mean, it does make sense. Of all the people that starred in the original movie, his career advanced the most by a landslide. After the first movie, Will Smith became a household name for years to come, starring in several huge blockbusters as well as some more critically acclaimed movies (and a few stinkers). If you want quality, you have to pay for it and the higher the quality, the more you're gonna have to shell out. Also, half the budget is a gross exaggeration. He wanted a lot of money, but it was more like a third of the entire budget. Which is still an obscene amount of money for just one guy, but it's not half the budget. Would have increased their sales, though, even if the movie nosedived into the ground faster than those fighter jets in the first movie. They'd have to blow a lot of money on his salary, but they'd make more too, just by virtue of having him in it. All things considered, he's probably pretty happy that his name isn't attached to the trainwreck that this movie became. Even if the paycheck was gonna be huge. There is also the possibility that he deliberately asked for an obscene amount of money ahead of time. He may not have trusted that this movie would turn out well, so he asked for an disgusting amount of money to be in it, knowing they would turn that down, which allows him to walk away from the project. Or they pay him, in which case he's got a couple millions more in the bank, even if the movie goes to shit. Really, the only scenario where he would lose is if they don't pay him, but the movie turns out to be a huge success anyway and now he's not attached to it anymore. And even then, he still has more starpower then the entire cast combined here (except for maybe Goldblum (damn you, Jurassic Park)).

I genuinely didn’t recognize the movie when I saw that thumbnail. What a total waste. A sequel could’ve been a great premise but it was all junk. Brent was the only actor who looked like they wanted to be there, and the loss of Will Smith is really distracting (but understandable since Smith put a big price tag on his return since he didn’t want to do it).
@wjzav19714 жыл бұрын
I can't believe how small and unimpressive this movie feels. The first one had at least some cinematic weight to it. But this feels more like a TV-movie. Well, at least Emmerich got his cinematic touch back with Midway.

Trevor Thornley Karen is a slang term for a middle aged, low class, very entitled women who thinks the whole world owes her a favor, must run by her terms, either abuses or spoils their kids to the point they are just as entitled, think they are smarter than you, usually are anti-vaccine, would homeschool their kid if they could to have more control over them, and easily thinks you work at Walmart or are worth less than her simply because you are not her.

I would've enjoyed the movie more if Steven Hiller's adoptive son Dylan was the hero of the movie. Both him and Whitmore's daughter. Also, Dylan's hostility towards Jake at the beginning would've made more sense if Jake somehow was responsible for Steven Hiller's death. Making Jake's story a journey of redemption.
