I doubt it, they literally don't even connect these people or events to anything that happened in the first movie, so I'm not sure how changing the shots would've fixed that glaring issue. Remember, the first movie kinda ended on a cliffhanger and it doesn't tell you at all what happened to the kids and even the Blair Witch makes no appearance in either of the films, so if they wanted it to make any sense, they should've at least established the continuation of the events from the first film. Again, we don't get that with this movie, it just sucks and it wouldn't really change it if a camera shot was slightly different.
@ShikyoSendo895 жыл бұрын
It still surprises me that Doug didn't look more into the movie, similar to the "Thief and the Cobbler" review. Blair Witch 2 was originally meant to be a bit more satirical than it turned out to be. The main characters were suppose to represent the fan base the original movie had. The two authors were suppose to represent the Historical and Mythological view points of the witch legend. One of them was going to focus on the witch hunts, while the other focused on the attributed paranormal feats of the witch. The Wiccan was suppose to be the people who were upset and felt that the movie was an insult to their faith. The Goth was the group that took it to far, like the group that flocked the town after the movie was released. And the "tour guide" was the people who wanted a quick buck, selling rocks, soil, and stick figures after the movie came out. The "Book of Shadows" bit, the editing, and many of the subplots came from the studio wanting the movie to be more edgy. Would the original idea have made the movie a master piece? No. Would it have made it better than what we got? Probably.
@mikeyslakowski12995 жыл бұрын
Haha that would explain the ending a bit more then. They all thought they were making a different movie only to realize the studio pulled the rug from underneath their feet like these people thinking they were doing a documentary just to realize they were blacking out and murdering people. It was probably unintentional though.
@MilwaukeeF40C5 жыл бұрын
Some of the studio ideas could have been worked in better if it wasn't rushed. Ironically the the butchering of the movie unintentionally reinforces the point Berlinger was making. This movie is somewhere above the throwaway cheeseball movies that get released around Halloween.

Cool hidden things in the movie you can see in this video: 6:15 the word "Me" in written in flowers(?) to the left of Erica's stomach Pause carefully at 7:00 and the word "Seek" appears in the flicker of the flames. Pause starting at 7:11 and a ghostly face appears in the cloud of smoke Stephen exhales 14:58 the word "No" is written on the window 16:26 the circle pattern of the rug is manipulated to say "OR" The ones not shown in video include the gravestone the goth girl lays on saying "Further", and a scene of the author speaking backwards (which is what gives the goth girl the idea to run the tapes backwards), which if you run it forward it says "The Children Will Again Walk Free". The complete message reads "Seek Me No Further or The Children Will Again Walk Free". What I think this implies is that the Blair Witch is tormenting the group using the souls of the Burkittsville Seven, the children murdered by Rusten Parr, who is actually the old man "cheating upskirt shots" in the store scene. The Burkittsville Seven are some of the ghost children throughout the movie, as well as Ilene Treacle, a girl who the Blair Witch supposedly drowned and is the gravestone the goth girl was laying on top of. The message reading "or" instead of "and" makes the message sound like a threat. I think it means that if people didn't stop their pursuit of the Witch, she would unleash the souls of the murdered children to torment them. Idk about anyone else but I like to think that that is what happened at the end of the first movie, when Heather went into the basement where the children were murdered, with Josh facing the wall just like the surviving child, she was murdered and disemboweled by the souls of the Burkittsville Seven, acting under the will of the Blair Witch just like Rusten Parr. Having seen a fan edit of this film where it isn't edited all out of order with random flashes of visions, the movie is actually pretty interesting and is very well intertwined with the lore of the first movie, it's even a meta commentary about the Blair Witch craze where you don't know how much of what happened was shared delusions caused by the hysteria surrounding the first movie, and how much of it was the Witch, and what exactly the Witch is. Because the first movie was just a movie in the second movie, but they suggest that the hysteria is what is causing the Blair Witch to be "real" in this world. That even if the group is actually just crazy and only believes in the witch, it's real to them.

On the rental VHS copy (yes, I'm that old) there was a little featurette at the end showing there were a lot of little creepy things in the background throughout--dirt on a window forming a hag's face, locks arranged in the shape of a pentagram that rearranged when someone walked in front of them, etc. I that that was kind of cool already, but I remember the featurette also had an icon with letters in the corner. And when you wrote those letters out backwards, it spelled object names; "grave" "rug" and "water" were the ones I remember. There was some kind of hidden message on those objects in the background scattered throughout the movie, but I remember not being able to figure it out. The book of shadows is a journal used by practitioners of the Wiccan religion. It's often used by individual practitioners, but entire covens are known to have their own book of shadows as well. This journal is used to contain rituals, spells, and other things pertaining to that particular faith. It is rumored that when a wiccan dies their "book of shadows" is burned or destroyed. It's possible the book that was destroyed during their mad ritual and/or the tapes used in this film was this films version of the Book of Shadows. Still I agree that if this movie is going to title itself "book of shadows" there should have been more emphasis on it. Such as maybe having the Erica 'The Wiccan Chick' have a journal with her and that she calls her book of shadows, and that the events that happen appear as rituals in her journal. Rituals she denies ever writing. And other events such as the Goth girls psychic powers being due to the fact she has a page from Erica's journal because reasons, and the footage reveals her ripping a page out of the journal. Or maybe Tristan is shown in the footage reading a spell from Erica's book, which would be why she is leading that satanic ritual.

You should still look at the Good Bad Flicks video about this film for why the movie that we see isn't the movie that was made. I've always liked this movie, against the popular opinion about it. I always thought that most didn't give it credit for what it did. GBF flat out shows that the movie that I glimpsed and appreciated in spite of the movie that we got was why I liked this movie. I didn't see it in the theater, but I was working at Blockbuster at the time and got to see it a week before anyone else on DVD. I enjoyed it from my first viewing forward. I've watched it many times. It does have many issues, but I think the film is better than the problems. After watching the GBF video I now understand that the overall bits that I like were suppose to be the movie, but there were problems. Most of those problems were due to a studio/test audience cut of the movie.

Reminder: The final cut of this was a butcher cut by Artisan. The director actually wanted to satire the phenomenon created by the first movie. The opening song was supposed to be "Witchcraft" by Frank Sinatra.

9:09 Got some news for you Doug. Lionsgate and Director Adam Wingard gathered up those shredded remains and made another Blair Witch movie in 2016. You should check it out in this year’s NostalgiaWeen. Or next years hopefully. The good thing about the movie is that It completely ignores Blair Witch 2. As it should.

How would you feel about a Diddy Kong Racing sequel that added characters from My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia, Kirby, The Amazing World of Gumball, **Persona 5,** Family Guy, Sonic, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Digimon Tamers, The Simpsons, Invader Zim, Crash Bandicoot and RWBY with Haruko from FLCL, Hat Kid, Popuko and Pipmi from Pop Team Epic, Bomberman, Doom Slayer, Beavis and Butthead also being there? Kirby gets pushed as a second Protagonist to go along with Diddy Kong. Imagine racing against Akko with Izuku, shooting a missile at Gumball, Gumball, Izuku, and Akko smoking pot with their friends, throwing an oil slick at Ren, Ryuji using a bat to knock opponents sideways, Ann using her whip to whip a nearby rival, Yusuke asking Momo if she’d be painted nude, Fregley putting his foot in his mouth to distract the other drivers so they can crash, Futaba showing everyone rule 34, Makoto dodging bombs that Bomberman planted on the race track, etc.

I'm trying so hard to find Blair Witch 2: Re-Cut. It's a fan cut made through various statements the director said about what the studio rejected, or things they forced him to do. So it's the closest thing to the original vision.

In the film, i thought they had left the van somewhere far away, and then they had to walk quite a bit to get to this old-factory building. But here she takes the van, supposedly at the door, goes to buy beer, steps over Parr, threatens the cashier, and drives back with the beer. Door to door.

Here is another strange thing: The studio was confident that this film was going to be a hit that they gave it the 5th widest release of all time at the time (I am not joking, only 4 films at the time were released in more theaters). Not only did it bomb hard, but on it's opening weekend, it lost to the 4th weekend to Meet the Parents. The studio and the box office predictors got duped. This is one the early examples of how too much hype can lead to failure.

Just like the Cube, Blair Witch also did not need a sequel. You have a cool, scary mysterious film that leaves it up to the viewers imagination of what happened there. This film already at the start has that cheesy American Pie type of acting, ughhh is this supposed to be a movie that scares you or annoys you?
@paulaburrows86605 жыл бұрын
The studio did the usual interference bullshit and added the murders and recut the movie. There is a better director version.

It is very interesting to know that this movie is NOT the film the director wanted to make. He was forced by distributors to film scenes that had nothing to do with his original vision. What he envisioned was far more detailed and nuanced, not this crappy mainstream one we have today. The title "Book of Shadows" never existed in the director's vision, for example. Look up: "GoodBadFlicks Blair Witch 2".
@LucyLioness1005 жыл бұрын

too be honest, what if this movie was about the other tour group and the Blair witch was controlling the main cast or if they were just fanatics too wrapped up in looking for the witch?. Would've made a good slasher-supernatural movie with someone surviving the crazy event and lived to tell the tale to someone who would listen like a researcher who is trying to get a good story and the survivor warns them not to go into the woods cause there's a chance that the other killers from the main cast survived and are just waiting to do it again, but they go anyways I'm just saying if written well this could of spawned at least a third movie if it was about the other tour group.
