I love how Toho bought the rights back to this piece of trash, and renamed the monster in it "zilla." Then, they featured it in one of the best Godzilla films to date: "Godzilla: Final Wars." For the uneducated, this movie was about Godzilla VS. EVERYTHING he had fought so far. Aside from Mothra, who was on his side. Anyhoo, this "Zilla" beast appeared to take on our Kaijuu King. It ran at the beast, and Godzilla didn't even blik as it grabbed it, threw it against a building, and blew it up *with a single attack.* I love Toho.

The biggest question I always have in movies like this is "Why do we always try to kill it?" Granted in ID4 they attacked us first, but it happens all the time, which is just so stupid. Its no wonder why we haven't had any intelligent life make their presence known to the world because they know we'll just want to kill them. The original The Day the Earth Stood Still is a prime example of this as is the arrest of Superman in Man of Steel. Plus why is the Military always portrayed as being lead by people who either want to weaponise it or destroy it instead of intelligent people who will wonder why they are here or how the discovery can be used in a good way.

I am getting so sick of people slagging off the latest Godzilla. It was amazing: 1. Its not fair to whine about the lack of disaster porn. 2. Its called showing restraint and being true to the original 3. In the old films Godzilla (particularly in the good films) did not have all that much screen time and yet people are acting like they expected just 2 hours of mindless violence. 4. If that was not bad enough people actually dare to insult a film for nor being 2 hours of disaster porn. 5. Maybe Godzilla did not appear for chunks of the movie, but other cool monsters did and when the big guy was on screen it was always incredibly awesome. I think people have either put the original Godzilla (a great movie) on a pedestal, or they have been spoiled by the constant awesome action scenes of Pacific Rim. If you want a lot of great monster violence that's fine but its not what the original Godzilla was about so its not fair to judge this movie for not being like that. They don't even advertise it like that. It was marketed as an atmospheric tense monster movie and that is exactly what we got. It would be like judging Harry Potter as a comedy. Their are elements of it but that is not the main focus. Don't judge a movie for what you want it to be. Judge it by what it is trying to be and the degree to which it succeeds in being this. The action was restrained yet incredible, the directing, cinematography and music were amongst the best I have ever seen in any movie, the monster designs were awesome, the plot was effective and simple combining both a tense end of the world scenario and a personal journey and the characters while not on Game of Thrones levels were still likable and the amount of criticism against them, I found to be completely unfair. The acting was good, the music was great, and the directing and visuals were unparalleled. Its just a great movie. I plan to buy it on dvd the moment it comes out and might even see it in the cinema a second time.

There's one thing the same and one thing different about this and the new Godzilla. The same: The ad campaign they launched for both was FUCKING BRILLIANT. The HALO jump in the new trailer established a brand-new form of badass that was to come. Oh, and the actual scene was just as awesome as the trailer made it look. NC already explained how the ad campaign for this one was great. The difference: The 2014 version wasn't a piece of shit. The acting (all of it) was exponentially better, and I actually think the focus on the human characters, even through the fight scene, helped distinguish it from all the other big-monster movies out there. Whereas this one was formulaic as FUCK, and in general was so bad that the original creators of Godzilla bought the rights to this version just to have the OG kick it's ass to the curb.
@PostgodAfterbirth10 жыл бұрын
I agree, and it's not exactly breaking tradition to write awkward human parts as the bulk of the film. A lot of people complain about the story and the human aspect of G14, I'm like "Yeah, what's new?" Try filling 140 minutes with monster fights and have success at the box office. (Though that would be a movie I would go to see. Twice.)

Levon Gevorgyan There's a little thing called "building tension." Surely you've heard of it. Besides, Godzilla was never the main focus of the film- the human's reactions were. He's there to keep the protagonist on his toes and he does it damn good. If the new movie didn't have Godzilla in it I'm entirely sure people would be hailing it as one of the best films of the year, behind Interstellar of course. But of course people are laden with expectation for something that was never really a thing in the first place.

The whole "president flys a fighter jet" _plothole_ is not a plothole AT ALL. It might be silly but it's not a plothole. In the movie they say the president is a former jet fighter pilot and it is a freaking "do or die" moment so, yeah, you should have as many able men as possible About this movie, I think its main problem is that it is supposed to be Godzilla and they ignored the source material. That and the hide&seek going on and a couple mistakes more. Also, the "ripping off Jurassic Park", while true, it is quite stupid since all those things happened way before in horror movies

Here's one thing I don't get, why would they try to kill this thing if they can just bait him away from the city. Shooting the thing pisses it off and continues to destroy shit. @Tinkatube9 жыл бұрын
Emilia Rose Yeah. Unrelated fanboy tangent here: You know that saying in writing "Every rule in writing has an exception?" Like how "Rick and Morty" is a torture porn that is actually funny? Well, Japanese Godzilla breaks all the rules of -Continuity between sequels. Each Godzilla film is its own universe. It has no canon. Godzilla is a mutant T-Rex one movie, the next he's an ancient guardian, the next he's just there for no reason. One movie he's born on Monster Island, the next he's a space-time anomaly. *I even remember an episode calling back to other movies and getting all of the info wrong, like how they said an atomic heat ray destroyed Mothra and actually showed footage from teh movie of them using it. It had looked like it had been destroyed but it had not been. It was hilarious.* -Good writing. Godzilla films doesn't care. It's got all the plot holes, all the stereotype characters, all the complete a$$ pulls. -Good Voice acting. The voices are over the top (At least, in the dubbed versions.) They're hilarious and actually add. Matter of fact, the whole reason Godzilla is good is because of its ability to pull these traits off with flying colors. It'll always be fun to watch for me. I wish you were into Kaijuus so we could RP this sort of stuff.

Fun Fact 1: Godzilla in Japanese (Gojira) is a corruption of Kujira, which means Whale. (it's a joke on Godzilla's size) Fun Fact 2: the director of this movie made it intentionally horrible because he hates Japanese culture. it's like I bombed a building because I hate the way it was built.

JuanMunzerAsakura How ironic, considering that the later Godzilla film hardly focused much Godzilla at all. Only 7 minutes. I mean, sure Godzilla would fight different monsters, but I think him being solo would be more proper if you want newcomers to be properly introduced.

If Roland Emmerich wanted to make a giant monster movie centered around a dinosaur being awakened and afflicted by nuclear fallout and having to be painfully killed, when it was just trying to survive, I think it would have been better received, if it was marketed instead as a remake of "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms." The radioactive monster in that movie, the Rhedosaurus, was portrayed as a tragic, sympathetic creature in the same way towards the end after smashing up New York. Godzilla was meant to be a personification of both the forces of nature that man cannot hope to fully control and the potential of man to create universally devastating forces of destruction, when tampering with new scientific frontiers such as nuclear power. It especially resonated with people during the Cold War, where people still had memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, everyone was arming themselves with so many nuclear bombs that whole world could be reduced to wasteland, and if all these weapons were unleashed, then no conventional weapons could possibly defend against that. So a lot of Godzilla fans thought it was inappropriate for Godzilla to be portrayed as a vulnerable animal, rather than an unstoppable god-like icon of destruction, and did not get invested in the pathos this movie attempted to add to the monster.

Yeah, it's not like the French helped you fight the English for independence or anything. And you totally built the Statue of Liberty by yourselves! /sarcasm
@joshuawillis6029 жыл бұрын
Yes that's true and because of that the world expected them to become stronger and braver in the future but when WW2 came they surrendered easily. They fought hard in WW1 why did they chicken out in WW2? They basically humiliated themselves and half the world lost respect for them. I still respect the French but I see why people make fun of them.
@iiiiitsmagreta12409 жыл бұрын
Joshua Willis Well, they did sort of act like badasses afterwards, so that kinda makes up for it. I mean, when France surrendered, did their overseas colonies give up and wait for the Nazis? NO. Some guy gave them a badass speech, and they rallied together and became one of the front-line powers in the conflict. That's right - even after their humiliating surrender and occupation, the French were still kicking Nazi ass around the world.
@jfarrar199 жыл бұрын
Joshua Willis The french were cowards in WW2 because they feared a rehash of WW1, with another generation being wiped out.

This movie misses all points of Godzilla,first and most importantly Godzilla was about America throwing atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki,so it makes no sense for it to take place in America,and second,why the heck is it CG,one of the best things about Godzilla was that it was all real,old ones do look dated,but some of them look really good with costumes,like Godzilla Vs. Destroyah.And even just as an unrelated monster movie it has terrible story,acting and script!Also,in that scene where "we're supposed to feel sorry for it" comes out another flaw of the movie,you can't feel sorry for it,because it has no personality,unlike other Godzilla movies!Man,I just love what they did to this Godzilla in the next Japanese version,that was really smart.Japanese Godzilla really defeated Zilla(this is what "Godzilla" from this movie is called in that movie).

He actually doesn't "breathe" the fire in this film... The first time he roars and causes the flames on the ground to rise up, and the second time, he roars and causes 2 cars to collide in the air and explode, creating the fire. By no means am I defending this movie , or dogging on this review, just pointing out a mistake.

@TheWing235 Did pay attention to the movie at all? The first scene in the movie takes place in some French islands that were used for nuclear testing in real life. They show an iguana coming out of the ocean and laying eggs on one of the nuked islands. GINO isn't a dinosaur but a giant mutated iguana.

The intro is not good. While the movie sucks bad, Stargate does not (started a new sci fi franchise that's like star trek ish for God sake), and ID is good website it's flaws (though hopefully there will be no sequel or it will be like the third version of neverending story). And yes, compared to others and though some good scenes, Day After is awful and bad if u believe in climate change (science is shit). 2012 was also as bad too. Heck, as I like to say, at least ID last line was about fireworks, good. 2012, was about pull ups diapers... really?
