I watched that Reid Duke v LSV Eldritch Moon match. What I love about it is the cleanliness of play, and the separation of zones. As an example, when searching his library, LSV keeps his hand separated and flat on the table, away from his library, to clearly indicate that there is no cheating happening. Just the tidiness of their zones is so professional

Pretty interesting about the culture of 'money drafts' in the pro-tour. Functionally so similar in terms of 'money matches' and how those play out at fighting game tournaments.

How many cards do you typically play in limited? I can't see with the overlays. I have been drafting arena alot to improve and learn the format better because I really enjoy it. I usually try and keep it around 40-45 but what do the pros do?

Lots of good topics talked about here. About the pro MTG scene maybe going to the wayside does feel bad. What I always thought was weird was you could have games like Heartstone come in and offer up 1 million is prizes and WoTC couldn't/wouldn't do the same thing or at least stay competitive felt off.

Does this set have any decent non-Prismari red cards?
@reidyo54043 жыл бұрын
It would be nice if arena had a competitive mode that let you build using cards not in your collection. Wildcards are a little hard to come by for newer low spenders. A good mana base alone takes up so many rares

Always love the content. Would.like to note, the timing of the commercials is real bad for the flow of the video, ie: have an ad between matches and after the draft and deck is built instead of right in the middle of a play. It just feels bad.

does anybody realize that study break doesnt need a second target? you can decline the second trigger.
@nathanlawson56793 жыл бұрын
If you only make one target and the spell fizzles because it no longer has a valid target (think snakeskin veil) then you don't "learn". Whenever he targets two things it's to increase the chance that the spell resolves against combat tricks.
@gavilin-u5k3 жыл бұрын
If you are just throwing it away to learn, you can target zero, but if you do want to tap their creature to snub an attack, then targeting your own creature is absolutely correct

44:00 It's cool that you noticed the auto tapper messing up and corrected it yourself. But why is it the auto tapper's job to figure out how to leave up mana for maximizing your remaining number of spells? It's just leaving as many colors up as possible while guaranteeing you 1 more spell. To optimize beyond that is literally an untenably HARD computation problem, even in theory.

"magic is not a pay to win game" Except it is.
@jamesperez18103 жыл бұрын
I think his comment that it is better categorized as a “pay to play” game is a much better fit. It’s also not quite a pay to win game either though. If I spend $100 to get enough wildcards to craft the best deck in standard and then play matches against LSV, Reid, Mengucci, PVDDR, etc, I would still get trounced. Me paying for the best cards doesn’t help me a bit.
@ThisIsToXiN3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesperez1810 So someone who pays 100$ for a a deck has the same chance to win as someone with starter decks? Do not start matching casual players against pros, that extremely dumb. And this is jsut constructed. You need to spend a huge amount of money if you want to not only play but be very good at limited.
@jamesperez18103 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsToXiN I suppose we have different definitions of “win”. If you want to win a match or two at your local FNM, buying a starter deck and practicing that deck a bit will result in some wins. If you want to win on the pro tour, no amount of money you spend will help your odds, it’s all about practice and reps and getting better. “Pay to win” suggests that if I buy the best deck I will just win. While it may help in some very low stakes situations, if you don’t know how to effectively pilot that deck, it doesn’t work.
@ThisIsToXiN3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesperez1810 No, we go and look at this statistically. Same skill level of player. Goes against each other. No random card draw (flood, etc) involved so we can negate that variable. Which one wins? The guy with the t1 meta deck he *bought* or the guy with the starter deck? You also think for some reason mtg is a skill based game. It's mainly a luck based game. Even pros can lose to terrible decks because of bad draws.
@jamesperez18103 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsToXiN yes, variance exists in mtg. Yes, a pro can lose a match to me due to mana screw or whatever. But saying it’s “primarily” a luck based game is a bit off. Saying that would imply that I might “get lucky” and win 50 matches out of 100 against a pro. The truth is, if I got lucky, I’d probably win 5 out of 100. Even in your example, it’s impossible to assume the same skill level of player. That’s my argument. If you put in the time and effort to ensure that your skill level is higher than your opponent’s, you should be able to beat them with a lesser deck a decent portion of the time. If everyone’s skill level on this planet were the same, then yes, the better deck wins. But that’s just not the case.
