Wow. My favorite cover of this song is by Trina Broussard, but Chante exhibits a whistle register-not unlike Minnie Riperton's. The funny thing is that it causes Chante's version to run the risk of sounding slavish whereas Trina Broussard's version lacks the whistle register and strays away from the original arrangement more, giving it a nice refreshening that feels as deep as the original. All three versions will remain in regular rotation on my systems....

The instrumentals are not as good as the original. Musicians back in the day were much better than the autotune software that is used nowadays.

@Belinda There is a distinct difference between the instrumentals of both versions, but I think they both work for each singer and setting. Chante's versions appeared on the New York Undercover soundtrack and the instrumentals sounded more like the jazz club featured in the show. Chante's normal octave is bit heavier/huskier than that of Minnie Riperton, so the neo-soul/jazz sound works better for Chante. We also have to take into consideration that these two versions were recorded exactly 20 years apart. Recording technology had advanced significantly within time period. Chante's track was clearly digitally recorded. Minnie's recording was done using analog stereo as the first 32-track digital record wasn't recorded until 1979.

Not anymore. Kadeem was her first husband. Kenny Latimore was her second husband and she just got newly married to her third husband recently. They actually danced to this song together right here during their reception in Cabo. Very nice wedding! 🤗👌🏾👍🏾
