This situation technically happened again in the Undertale fandom. W.D Gaster was nothing more than a “mystery sprite” and was alluded to a couple of times in the game’s secret dialogue, but he’s arguably one of the most popular characters in Undertale, and may be one of the most popular fan characters of all time.

@@thefollower2933 Well, technically he is. We aren’t even sure what his personality or design even is, but everyone assumes it’s the “mystery man” in waterfall. Just like nazo they turned one image and made him into a complete character with a personality and motives.

@@jordanslocum3903 I wouldn't say it's the same thing as this Nazo image, since WD Gaster has multiple references throughout both games and websites. While it's true we don't know with 100% certainty if the Waterfall room is him, it is implied through the "66" motif. Plus we at least have some information about him through the followers, Deltarune, Entry 17. Basically, unlike this nazo image, it is very obvious that Gaster is a real character with real lore significance, as opposed to a random placeholder image

<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="311">5:11</a> I never realized how this artwork of Nazo Unleashed is just a redrawn version of the Dragon Ball Z "Fusion Reborn" movie DVD box art, which funnily enough came out in March 2006, and Nazo Unleashed also in 2006, so ChakraX redrew that DBZ box art in such a short time. Seriously, look up "Dragon Ball Z Fusion Reborn original DVD" and compare the box art of that to this Nazo Unleashed art, it's exactly the same!

The Fusion Reborn Poster was the same for the Japanese Version which came out in the 90s. If he knew about the JP then he would've had it as a reference before the English Movie came out and to be honest its likely since the whole thing is very dragon ball inspired and filled with dragon ball sound effects

@skbmusic-n8f I know the original JP poster had it, but in the US the first release of the art came with it's original March 2006 DVD release. Back in the mid 2000s, outside a very small subgroup of weeaboos, Japanese Dragon Ball wasn't talked about or that known, and if they did know about what it's like, it was mostly hated back then, people in those days only knew Dragon Ball Z through the English side, which didn't change until like, Dragon Ball Super came out. I mean, all the Dragon Ball music ChakraX used for Nazo Unleashed was specifically Bruce Faulconer music, which is of course the US DBZ music, no JP music at all. And also, it would make sense if he had specifically used Fusion Reborn's art as the one to redraw because it just came out in the US the same year he did his animation.

Don't know if it's fair to say this character tricked anyone because he WAS a part of that Sonic X reveal we just don't know what he was planned to be. He clearly got cut out as production went on, similar to how the first pilot for Sonic X had more of Sonic's anthro world. Stuff just gets changed and we'll probably never find out what this character was meant to be. My guess is he'd have been an evil version of Super Sonic which they dropped but then picked back up when it came to do Dark Sonic, changing the design along the way.

I love what Chakra X did with the design of this character for his series. The shoes being blue and red like those educational magnets that indicate the positive and negative parts of it was actually kind of creative. The fact that he is basically the Omega Shenron of the Sonic series is also something I could totally see in a official game or comic.

I never like Nazo I'm a big fan of Sonic, but I can't stand the DB franchise (it just never clicked with me) and seeing Nazo, I always felt (and still feel that way) that he's too powerful (I get that that's the point, but I don't like that trope) what I enjoy about Sonic, are the characters and world X was my introduction into the franchise, not a trailer, the actual show and afterward, I found about Archie, I didn't read them, but I did discover the families of the characters and the many worlds that's what I love about Sonic (it's also the reason why I like Zavok)

i'm pretty sure the biggest misunderstanding is either the Sol Dimension is a sorta mirror universe or Jaleel was contacted for Sonic Generations as Classic Sonic about Nazo tho: he's cool, not one of my favourite 2000s Sonic-Fan villains (that honor goes to Z Mecha Sonic/Metallix) but i can see the appeal

They asked Takashi Iizuka on Facebook what it was, since he was involved in the production of Sonic X, and he said it was a scrapped design of Super Sonic (even tho it doesn't make sense). Although, these fonts are not that very trustful, since it can be a fake profile and someone pretending to be Takashi Iizuka, and that has happened before if i'm not wrong, so take that as a grand-of-salt

It really doesn't make sense. None of Sonic's forms change his appearance this much, not even Darkspine or Cyber Sonic. The face is all different, and the backspines are wider almost like wings. Hyper Sonic is not just stark white, either: it flashes several different colors, and doesn't change his skin color, only his fur. I wish I lived in the universe where Nazo wasn't scrapped, to have these answers. A Nazo arc in Sonic X would've been so peak.

Nazo, Metallix / Turbo Mecha Sonic / SMBZ Metal Sonic and Sonic.EXE are definitely the most influential fanmade Sonic characters, and as much as one may hate or love them, it's simply the truth. One could argue Seelkadoom and Aeon are, too, very big figures in the community, but I don't think they had the same impact as the other three.

I will always lament that we never got to see Nazo animated by the Sonic X animation team, but considering that we likely would have never had Nazo Unleashed as a core part of our childhoods if that happened. nazo was such a big mystery even though it's indicated he was a scraped super sonic design it got more confusing sense normal super sonic was in the trailer. nazo unleashed took the world by storm literally this got to point sega themselves saw nazo unleashed and told chakra x it was cannon on his Twitter which is a rare time a fan animation was seen as part of the official story or a official different dimension. shadic/sonow and seelkadoom has a similar situation, fusion was something fans created for a while seelkadoom was a fusion clone of sonic and shadow created do to negative chaos energy. not only did sega add foul to the fusion unification situation by stating nazo unleashed is in the cannon to sonics world they literally showed fusion unification exist in the cannon lore thanks to o6 not long later. i wish fusion unification was something sega messed with more it would bring so much to the lore. sonic exe has a similar story what started off as a cursed game situation from the fan base soon became something sega themselves knew about and even had a image of it's interesting. dark forms is similar technically the only cannon dark forms before nazo unleashed was around was perfect chaos and dark shadow from shadows own 2005 game, dark sonic shows up in sonic x a none cannon series before making it's way to nazo unleashed but also the official grid of the sonic timelines meaning sonic x is a different dimension and dark sonic is half cannon. what would you call a fusion between mephiles and sonic exe

I saw fanart on DeviantART before they pulled their A.I. stuff that threaded Nazo as Hyper Sonic. Given that Hyper Sonic's base color starts as glowing white, I could see this working well in some alternate reality.
