Just a side note: Under accessibility features in your devices' settings, there should be a screen reader, text to speech, or voiceover function of some kind. If you get regular digital books through kindle (the amazon company), you can use that function on any book, no audiobook needed. Kindle also has its own version of said functions if I remember correctly.

I highly recommend this series of 4 books! Just make sure that you have the time, or can make the time to listen to the series non-stop because you will become as addicted to them just as others have been. I've just finished book 4 in the series and my only disappointment is that the series came to an end. I've never listened to anything like these books and I don't even know what genre they fall into, but I'm now hooked on this author so am about to listen to the other series of books that she has generously shared on KZbin. Fantastic writing that is enthralling, entertaining and certainly a possibility considering the manner in which Covid19 has struck the world. We have just been fortunate enough for it not to have killed as quickly as in this story. The narrator was also excellent! There was never a time that I actually considered him because he just kept the story so interesting that I never even thought about him, which to my mind, is the sign of a good narrator as it's their job to keep us involved in the story and not on the reader. I became so close to the characters that I was on their side all the way through. I'm also extremely grateful to the author for sharing her amazing books with us free of charge on KZbin for everyone to enjoy. I'm about to listen to her other series on KZbin now, just as I'm certain that you will too when you come to the end of this series. Thank you Christine for sharing your amazing books with us!

Yeah, the wife's mentality annoys me as well sometimes. She makes me want to yell, "we're not all like this" lol. Honestly, the husband annoys me just as much at times. But sadly, I think a lot of our population would think like them, and maybe worse. Most people aren't really, truly prepared for what a grid-down situation would be like, or how human nature would play out.

Our street does a party every summer. We get permits and block the street. Everyone up and down gets an invite. Anyone I see from my back yard, I wave at. Anyone I see driving on my street, I wave at. I know everyone on my street and more. This whole book is really about knowing your neighbors and being able to communicate. It doesn't take much to grill some burgers and dogs and ask for sides, and the payoff can be huge. The other thing, like a lot of other books and as DJ Molles nicely puts it, "loose ends will always hang you." Check his books after you finish this series. Book one seems like you just went nowhere story-wise, but the series cokes together nicely. This book one is good, Christine, thanks for posting it!

I would say after living through the pandemic in 2020 more people would have learned to stock up on everything little by little for the last 4 years . Like maybe when they got these stimulus checks and bought a freezer and long term food storage or other stuff . I would hope more people would have done things like that but I seen people going on vacation or buying large screen TV's or wasting money on things they really didn't need .

I have similar issues. Painful eyes and poor health that means I have to spend a lot of time either in bed at home or in hospital so these are wonderful for me. I only wish they'd been available years ago when I was forced to spend years in and out of hospitals. They certainly would have made my life so much easier. It was only last year that I spent a few months in hospital but audiobooks certainly saved my sanity! I certainly don't fear being bedbound the way I used to because I know that even if I can't read, or hold a book, or turn the pages, I'll still be able to listen to books that will certainly make the time more bearable.
Came across this book when looking for something for my 10 yr old son to do on a Sunday morning...besides bug me😔😂 .. We both were hooked. I relived the pandemic and he was very surprised people were going through this. As parents we safe guard our children from all harm. My family stayed home and I worked. An excellent novel, I'm thoroughly enjoying it! The character development draws you into the story and you really begin to care about the characters and what happens to them. My only problem is the number of ads. I appreciate that you've made these books available to us for free. It's a wonderful gift to those of us who could never afford them otherwise. And i completely understand you wanting to get your investment back through monitization, but double unskipable ads every 5-7 minutes at the beginning of every chapter is a bit ridiculous, and makes it difficult to stay immersed in the story. I'm on chapter 21, almost 3hrs into the story and have listened to 43 unskipable ads thus far. Difficult when i use these audiobooks to distract me from migraines that last 3, sometimes 4 days. Maybe you could cut them back a bit? Say every other or 3rd chapter? Much appreciated.

At first I was feeling annoyed with all the ads and THEN I noticed that it was actually posted by the author herself !!!! Love the different Unabridged autiobooks like this. I'm not able to get my subscriptions up to date right now...and this is AWESOME! This is actually a kinda decent book to listen to. Two complaints....Im a lady/girl but heaven Almighty.... I want to STRANGLE all the whiny ladies/girls. And are folks actually that...dumb?? The wife upset that the good guy put a gun in her son's hands when all their lives were in jeopardy....Her wanting to carry a gun but afraid her 'children' (17 & 16 ) fooling with it...😕 Matt having to be explained to that Tony was killed...and by who??

This is a good listen. I admit, at some points it was hard for me to keep listening because the stupid decisions made that put the family right into clear and present danger were foreseeable and avoidable. But it's still a good listen. Thank you sharing..

Right?! Glad it’s not just me. I’m just over an hour in and I couldn’t tell if it was the way the narrator’s tone makes these people sound like morons or their actual decisions. It’s like the junk food of books. I’m entertained enough though so far🤷🏻♀️

Matt made a big mistake when he drew his weapon on the 2 co-op boys and didn't shoot them. Now instead of dealing with 4 armed d bags that night, he's dealing with 6. People always wonder how people like Stalin, Mao, Hitler etc. became so powerful. This is a good example: no one did anything when the problem was small enough to deal with. Great story so far👍

The book has it's pros and cons but overall it's not bad depending on who's listening. Here's what I found, but feel free to draw your own conclusions. Pros: Pacing: The book is well written with steady pacing without too much filler. The story itself runs pretty smoothly in that regard and will keep many listeners interested to see what happens next as they will find themselves loving and hating some characters within the story. Characters: Many of the characters are well written and fleshed out in a way that brings a level of reality to them. Description: While several jokes have been made about the description of mundane character actions "eyebrows", it really helps with the immersion into the story where a listener can actually see someone in there mind doing whatever has been described and completely understand what has been told. Narration: The narrator's voice is engaging and will keep many listeners interested in what is transpiring throughout the story. Cons: Characters: Many character traits will leave some listeners hating the main characters, and sometimes the side characters as well. Many may feel like the main characters work very hard at making half hearted attempts at survival, while always being saved by someone else. Some listeners will find characters who are supposed to be law enforcement, military, or those who should have basic survival knowledge will express instances of a complete lack of situational awareness. Overall, I feel that the story is well written and you as the listener may love it all the way to the end, or you may not enjoy some aspect of the the story or another, but hopefully you may be able to respect the writing and dedication of the author who has put forth the effort to write a story that many can enjoy, and perhaps some of their other works may strike your interest.

It's ( rather good) fiction, not a survival manual. I'm kind of backwards . I stumbled upon the EMP series first , and now following up with this series . So far 4hr into this Book 1 , it's interesting to compare and contrast the variations in the nature of the * Looming Disaster / End of Civilization * , and the human dynamics in the Neighborhood. ( Yeah , in my mental visualization, it's substantly similar physical Neighborhood, and substantially similar surrounding area .) From just the Titles in the subsequent books in the series , it's going to turn in a different direction .
