a lot of the time the short victory conditions send you against NPC factions (or sometimes 1 NPC faction and 1 playable one) that might change as more stuff comes out but for now plenty of factions (especially in the eastern regions of the map) have non-playable short term victory opponents (and not always ones that'd make sense being made playable) if they were one of the long victory objectives though, that'd be another story.

I've only played Draz and Astragoth but it seems really clear that Draz has the most difficult start (playing VH.) I went after Imrik first and managed to get a favorable auto-resolve with two crapstacks while he was in forced march. But after securing Imrik's holdings I wound up at war with Rictus, Grimgor and Greasus at the same time which was wild. I was fielding 4 or more crapstacks early game, red balance sheet, relying on fighting battles, sacking and sacrificing labor. Grimgor came down with 2 wagghhh 40 stacks and I somehow got lucky and caught him in an ambush. I then made the questionable decision to peace out with Tretch when he only had his capital left so I could send all my forces to take out Grimgor before he could recruit again. The 8k he paid me made the decision easier. I swept through Grimgor's and Greasus' territory as fast as I could, turning it all to strip mines. The extremely positive side effect of not taking Tretch's capital was that I did not "discover" Thorgrim, so I did not have to fear attack from the west...yet. Just as I had mostly destroyed Grimgor and Greasus, I was DOW'd by Cathay twins and soon after Ghorst. It made for some really tense turns as I was trying to build up the mountain provinces while holding off Cathay in the mountains and preparing an attack on Ghorst. I was still relying on crapstacks some 50 turns in. Of course before I fully destroyed Ghorst, Tretch came in for round 2 which was expected but wholly inconvenient. My crapstacks were all over the place- holding off Cathay, pushing on a fully garrisoned and full-stack Haunted Forest, and trying to catch Tretch. Once Ghorst was destroyed I turned south bc Kugath was weak, he couldn't even overcome his initial lizardmen foe this game. The Dragon islands are an AMAZING province for Chorfs, one of the best in the game. Finally holding all of the territory between the World's Edge Mountains the western border of Cathay, I had enough resources to start training powerful armies. Enough to power a massive two-front war with Cathay in the east and Dwarven alliance to the west. No enemies to the south and Chaos/Norscan friends holding the north. Steamrolling Cathay I snowballed like hell, and the true power of the Chorfs comes through. By turn 80 or so you're basically invincible, occupying towers at Tier 5, fielding loads of badass units, tons of magic and OP army abilities. Really fun campaign to play!

Drazhoath is the most engaging for me. I blitzed Imrik because I knew he'd be a threat, had Tretch break his NAP & declare war on me the same time that Greasus did. Vassalized Tretch & Queek and then fought with Greasus for about 30 turns before finally beating him and giving some of his land to Kugath to block off my Eastern border. Then Grimgor, Skarsnik & Azhag all declared war on me at once and I had a massive war on my hands. Super hard but really fun.

From what I've seen, purely from watching lets play campaigns, the best ratio seems to be 2 outposts to 1 factories, preferably specializing in regions with resource nodes or special buildings based on their output. Raw Materials is king but Labor needs to be managed carefully, make good use of your management screen and look at it regularly, remember you can shuffle sla- Laborers around! Armaments are almost secondary and are for more advanced projects and buildings, which is why it's better to have a strong supply of raw materials first as you'll be making more use of them. Caravans can run 2 at a time (3 with a late game tech) so you should be running them almost constantly. Trading with a faction gives you a +20 rep boost which is important because literally everyone hates you (understandably) and this DOES stack with repeat visits. Use caravans to farm reputation points and whatever resources you're most shy on, which early on is going to be labor or raw materials. Note that the trade values and resources traded will change every few turns or so, so pay attention to that trade screen and the icons of what's being exchanged.

Hey Zerko could make a video on how to counter the Chaos Dwarf War Machines with every faction in Multiplayer bc due to the machines having all the range in the world, dealing tons of dmg, having a lot of mass & being super accurate for every shot, I'm finding them to be quite the problem and I don't really see a way out of that stress regardless of which faction I choose to play. thank you
@Eclipsed_Embers Жыл бұрын
they actually don't have a ton of range compared to other faction's artillery (that's actually one of the main draws of putting the Chaos Dwarf artillery on a train, more speed means the relative lack of range doesn't matter as much). that was always the case on tabletop too, Chaos Dwarf artillery sacrificed range for damage. best way to counter would probably just be the same ways you counter any other artillery (dogs, cav, and flyers). due to the comparitively short range many factions could simply outrange them and do some decent damage to the Chaos Dwarf artillery before it ever gets to shoot
@teyboy291 Жыл бұрын
@@Eclipsed_Embers you can't really risk trying to trade with them in an artillery fight bc the thing is they're not actually, artillery they're war machines. Not to mention they are all quite accurate with their shots so any artillery piece that tries trading with them would lose. I 've seen it happen in many battle replays. Can't rely on dogs bc these are single entities that can also turn into trains with a ton of mass. That brings me to infantry, if you try infantry against the war machines you risk blobbing them up and getting nuked with magic. Cav is also unreliable due to the sheer mass of the war machines. Can you see why I am stuck in how to deal with them now?
@Eclipsed_Embers Жыл бұрын
@@teyboy291 even with normal artillery I find that stuff like dogs and flyers aren't actually supposed to kill them (especially against Hell Cannons, the one early taste of Chaos Dwarfs we'd had since game 1 first launched). heck, the entire purpose of Fell Bats seems to be to tie up archers and artillery crews and yet I've seen Fell Bat units lose 1v1 to artillery crew units. the point is that as long as you have a skirmisher bothering them they aren't shooting, and as long as they aren't shooting it frankly doesn't matter if it's alive or not, because war machine or not it's ultimately a slow moving (unless it's a Dreadquake Mortar on a train) artillery piece. it's really not doing much melee damage, it's not going anywhere anytime soon, and if it's not shooting it's just not doing its job. and as for that Dreadquake Mortar on a train... well, at that point it's kinda like an expensive single entity monster that happens to also have an artillery attack (like a Cygor, Solar Engine Bastilodon, Stegadon, Bone Giant, or the Rogue Idol RoR), I'd suggest treating it as such, confront it with a SEM of your own (preferably a melee focused one).

@@TheConCarlos CA went with your second option. I can sort of understand it from a gameplay perspective. Due to how intricate and complex the Chaos Dwarf economy is (at least in comparison with most of the other factions in game) it's more efficient for each province to specialise in either raw materials or armaments once you expand beyond your home province and have at least 2 fully controlled. In order to advance you need a steady supply of both raw materials, armaments and of course labour. This would require controlling more provinces than would normally be required for any other faction to obtain the same level of power. This would be much harder to achieve if they were limited to the same climates as regular Dawi.

But with WoC I feel restricted to a few settlements in the top of the map and there is only so many black fortress you can start in. But starting festus near the great bastion was pretty fun. I don't understand how people can have their campaigns done within 100 turns. Short campaign victory I would not even call a victory, Long victory is mid-game, endgame is dominating the map. The real struggle always starts at turn 120+, there the game decides if you have build up enough armies to actually crush the game or be crushed. So I see people mostly stop before the endgame even begins, saying they "painted" the map, when they got absolutely nothing. For endgame you need like 40+ armies, not 5-10.
@jeremyb3991 Жыл бұрын
Most people tend to stop around turn 100 because the late game just gets really repetitive and tedious. Once you've beaten the endgame crisis there's not realistically going to be any faction that can even hope to challenge you so it just turns into a repetitive slog of sieges every turn until you either conquer the map or start a new game.
@yosoy1loco Жыл бұрын
@@jeremyb3991 There is some very common misconception I like to address. There is a point at which you "beat" the surrounding forces, while large empires grew in the background. As all people around you, they will declare war on you and it does not matter if you can beat any army, they will still eat you up, cause they will outnumber you so much that you cannot defend your territory with fucking 10 armies. Until that you need, and it is not exaggerated, 30-40 armies. In some campaigns I field over 50, and you better have a corner cleared, so your back is save, otherwise the campaign is lost. The points at which I lost my campaigns were always around turn 220+, not fucking turn 80. But there is also something wrong with the difficulty settings. I have won very hard campaigns that were way easier than normal ones. Yet, in every campaign, no matter if it was "normal" or "very hard", the point at which "no other force could challenge" me, was nowhere near turn 100, it is about 200-250. I feel that most players do not even know how the endgame looks like, but give desperate beginners that actually see the endgame idiotic tips on how to set the difficulty lower. The point at which no other force can challenge you, is the point at which you have 150 settlements, 40+ armies and made sure that at least one super power is on your side, not before that.

@yosoy1loco Жыл бұрын
@@honorguard7616 I don't know exactly how the AI was programmed differently in WH2, I also have over thousands hours into it, but I don't know the difference to the potential system in WH3. I remember I had far less campaigns there, in which the AI completely went nuts. I can only remember once with Skarsnik that the Malekith went crazy and I could not win the campaign. The loss started around turn 80 and dragged until turn 246. Yet in WHIII I experience this in practically every campaign. The player bias is extremely high and the AI's power can be stacked even on normal difficulty high enough for the AI to go nuts. They have different starting potentials depending on the race you play and what difficulty, but the mechanics that stack the AI's power in correspondence to your actions is exactly the same. And this will reach a point, when you have enough wars, that they will eat you up. Since you can go more aggressive on normal, you can even make normal campaigns harder than legendary ones - I tested it with the same campaign (Morathie. Skarsnik and Wurzzag, Ordertide is always easy) over and over. AT a point between turn 120 and 80, it will start and only grow worse, since the AI Is completely biased on you, it will even let work hostile factions work together and beeline everything into you, with an absurd low amount of upkeep, which you can test by spectating the enemy army and look at the upkeep of your units. Together with the potential bonus, even on normal difficulty, Talsyn can get to 0 upkeep for its armies with his factions bonus, despite not even skilling the minus-upkeep ion the skilltree. Luckily he will not produce more than 16-20 armies, but that can give you a picture of what I talk about when I say painting the map. There is a huge difference, between having like 50 settlements or like 200, having like 10 armies or 40. The latter is the way to go, the former is a loss. If you don't have that many armies, if you don't have 10-20 wars going on. If you are still not outnumbered, despite having such a huge miliitary, you have not reached the endgame. The difference between turn 80 and turn 150 is night and day in may campaigns, despite being rank 1 in power. So I'm not calling you crazy, but I do not understand what game you are playing, and there must be a point to the several threads with 500-1000 up votes of people complaining about this shit on normal difficulty. Maybe the potential system is bugged, there was also a very cryptic message from the developers, which seems to hint at some abnormal AI behaviour in their system. I quote from videogames.si.com: "However, it may be that these dark times will be left behind us in the not-so-distant future: “We found some interesting things with regard to anti-player bias recently in the code base,” the developers stated." This statement refers to 3.0, but will not completely fixed in 3.0, but later. Try it out. Play on normal. don't play Order tide or Darkelves. Go for domination victory. Don't use autoresolve, unless you have installed a mod that removes hidden tower bonuses, which makes it impossible for the AI to win certain battles it should win 100%.
