I called upon the powers of Deadpool to increase the effectiveness of my husbands immunotherapy. I also called upon wolverine to help my husbands immune system to attack the cancer cells. I drew sigils for each on his immunotherapy medication and another one that I created to bind the two together.

I love this concept. I recently started to identify as a chaos magician and it's super empowering. Last year I read The Pop Culture Grimoire 2.0 by Taylor Ellwood and Emily Carlin. 10/10! I worked with Rowena from Supernatural because I took Latin in college and wanted to start casting some spells in Latin. I meditated and she was the character I got the insight to work with. I got the words Veni Pecunias and 20 minutes later a golfer at my job gave a $10 tip! Sidenote I am not a caddy and my job is a non tipping club. It was a wonderful experience!

I pride myself in being a gamer and a witch/magician (hence why I call myself the GamerWitch) but the down side is that gaming *can* affect your practice as it can become a distraction from your daily activities. While I have become better at focusing more on my practice (which has pop-pantheon aspects to how I see divinity/archetypes), it is completely possible to set it aside and focus more on the games. I have a video on my channel called "How the Burning of Teldrassil Impacted me Spiritually" and although it has outdated views, it shows how powerful video games, and/or fictional characters can affect us when we're immersed in the world. Additionally, an OC I created has become a link to a deity I work with and also a stream that connects me to my subconscious, so when I get an itch to write, I know there's a message for me. Thank you for the wonderful video!

See, I agree with almost everything you've said however I want to add to the part where you said that you can't make things levitate or get a job without applying for one... I have personally had the most "impossible" and "logic-defying" things happen to me as someone who channels raw energy and sometimes not even an archetype or deity or a specific system. Just food for thought. Magical practice can be very much so anecdotal, lol. I respect your work though, I love this video and I gleaned a lot of insight from it!!!

I don't remember what video it was, but you showed your Moira Rose candle (It was Moira, right? Not Alexis?) from Schitt's Creek, so that was an example of using pop culture in your practice. Also, Kelley-Ann Maddox's book Rebel Witch, page 82, she talks about Heroes and Icons and using Jimmy Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain and Leonard Cohen in her personal practice and drawing upon their energies. Also on page 80, she talks about using fictional characters from films/books/tv series and cartoons in your practice, and touches on Servitors. That's why I love her book so much- it was the first one I've ever come across to mention servitors! Highly recommend, especially for beginners. I have a deck of Clow Cards from Cardcaptors and in my practice when I invoke the elements I work with them, speak to them, and interact with them in their 3D forms, like from the anime. The visuals and emotions that connect me to the cards and my inner child really help me power my spellwork. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ivy!

I see a lot of people talking about pop culture deities on Tiktok. On Witchtok, you'll see people calling them egregores instead of deities, but the concept is the same. That said, my formative witchling years were colored by shows like Charmed, and I still use Piper's Fearless Spell (From the episode A Witch's Tail, Part 2) as an anti-anxiety mantra all these decades later. (Also LOL, I typed that at the beginning of the video and then you mentioned it at the end.) I love video games. Some people prescribe to spoon theory to describe energy levels throughout the day -- I prefer spell points. It's a little more in Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop role playing games, but the idea is that you have a limited amount of spell points or spell slots for the day, and when you use them up, you have to sleep to recharge them. People should be more familiar with The Magicians than Harry Potter -- just saying.

Open World Games are great Techno-Planes to do Magick in. Especially, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, BioShock, and The Witcher series, that have Sacred Places you can use as Magick Workspaces (like Standing Stones, Caves, and Abandon Places). In Skyrim, there's Dragon Speech, that can be used as inspiration for Sigil Speech and Spell Chants. BioShock's Vigors each have a corresponding Mundra (Hand Shape and Gesture) for each Spell cast. In Gravity Falls, Backwards Speech and Cypher Codes are used as Spells. Adventure Time makes use of Mundane Acts as Spellcraft (like Card Playing, Food Prepping, and Singing).

@danielleking3880 Жыл бұрын
With the whole hand gesture thing, it kind of reminds me of mudras. Buddha and various hindu gods are sculpted using hand gestures that hold different meanings, kind of like a spell. When I was young, I read tons of arthurian literature. My mothers favorite movie, play and soundtrack was Camelot. I have a huge library of retellings and original stories based on the arthurian mythos. I know that Merlin is kind of the archetype of magicians, wize sages, etc. And Morgan was the archetype of the sorcerer woman, with the evil element due to the very fact she was a woman. In fact many archetypes are found in these myths. But i always loved the books that challenged the myth of Morgan as evil. And I wanted to be like that. Felt I was misunderstood as she was. Kind of think Mist of Avalon morgan, that type of character. She has a similar theme to Gennifer from the witcher, not as tortured, but that rage that was misunderstood. I try to think of myself as that powerful and self assured when I do spells. Since I have no ability to picture in my mind, I cant visualize. So I also use jewelry as my amulets and talisman. I have a staff I found at a yard sale that was used in cosplay, which I believe is play acting as a character in a comic book or whatnot, but it has a cobra wrapped around it and a cluster of amethyst on top. It kind of looks crude, like a child made it, but I love it to help me play the part of a strong wizard in my magic. And what are magical tools but props for our character we make in our magical world? Things to help us feel and activate our imagination and our manifesting powers? Kind of like being able to use any stick as a wand, a letter opener as a knife, a dollar store goblet as a sacred chalice akin to the holy grail? We add these elements of fantasy to aid us in creating magic all the time, not so different from an actor in their role uses props. It aids in giving us the confidence to call on the powers within us and around us to manifest our wants and needs into reality.
@ryancagerbaker11 ай бұрын
This interesting. I feel like entertainment is a form of magic. When writers create a script, actors put on their characters, lights, curtains, the stage, backstage, etc. all these components to send a message to the audience. I don’t see a difference between channeling a character or a spirit.

Many YEARS ago, I used to get bad headaches that would hit as I was just getting to sleep, causing me to force myself to awake enough to get up and take something for the headache. I decided to let the prevailing headache commercials of the time and use them to work for me. Instead of getting up and taking something, I would tell myself that I had just taken the pain reliever and then remark to myself about how fast it works and how easily it is able to get rid of my headache; how I could actually feel the pain draining away to the point that I could drift off to sleep. It is amazing how well that worked. My headaches began to come fewer and fewer times with less and less intensity until I no longer get headaches. I have a question for all the witches and I thought this interview was an apt place to put it. I'm not a chaos magician, more of a folk witch, and I've started LARPing this past year. For those of you who don't know this is like live DnD where you roleplay a character in a fantasy universe. Obviously I (and my character) was drawn to the magic, and I just find the interplay between fiction and magic so interesting in this context. There are people performing elaborate fictional rituals, in covens, within fictional magical spaces, with fictional symbology, calling on fictional beings, and this just feels like it must have some kind of magic to it...I've been too shy to do this fully so far but my character performs divination. I use my tarot deck exactly as I would in real life, although there is a shift in consciousness where you do really feel like everything is real- the world, your character, the other character etc. and I'm calling on in-universe beings. And the readings always resonate deeply on this in-world level for the characters. So is this, like, working on some level? Can you divine for a fictional being, through a fictional magical system? Through roleplay? I haven't found any witches at LARP, so I just wanted to know if anyone had opinions!

I think it’s technically a jrpg and it’s maybe a bit dated based on more modern video games, but it has some really interesting concepts that I find very useful in my practice, mainly the concept of “Magnus”, which are these cards that contain the essence of a thing. I personally use this in my own rituals by making my own “Magnus” that I can use to contain the energy of whatever I please, and I’ve found it very helpful. Figured I’d share, and if you have played it, please lmk, I feel like I’m the only one whose ever played it sometimes 😅 lol

The Elder Scrolls universe incorporates a lot of metaphysical concepts, one of which is called Mantling. Basically you 'walk as they do' until there is no visible distinction between you and the being you are mantling. Kind of like the way you said that you 'put on their skin' or 'wear them like a skin'. So absolutely look into the deeper lore of the elder scrolls. Michael Kirkbride, one of the major writers for their lore specifically went out of his way to write real magick into the world's lore.
