Reason No.4 : Ergonomics. Average rider is 175-180cm. I am over 2 meters tall in my gear. On almost any unmodified bike i have squashed legs and also get to roleplay as a sailship. So custom tall seat and drag bars are almost necessity.

On first glance it looks quite cool, but narrower bars and wider wheels are going to ruin the handling, and the joker artwork is a bit... questionable. I think this bike looks pretty cool in stock form, so this seems like a lot of effort to personalise the bike and (as others have commented) a bike like this will actually be hard to sell let alone recoup the $$$ you put in. But none of this matters if you are the owner and this is your dream bike. It's uniquely yours, so enjoy!

Track bike used to be a RSV4 1100 Factory, but I am in my 50s now and I went naked for ergo and I personally love the handling of dirt bike type bars over clipons.

I believe there are some mods we do that makes a bike cooler, and there are times when we're simply spending the money that the factory sought to save. I see them as two different things. Like when the manufacturer cheaps out with a one-piece, all in one axial master cylinder - that's just them being cheap, go ahead and mod that. If its an objective improvement, I can justify it. I'm righting a wrong done to the bike.

These bikes upset the sensations and the feeling that the manufacturer intended for this bike. Exaggerated customizations of this type are an end in themselves, they are difficult bikes to sell to the average consumer and have a price that is not justified in the eyes of others compared to those who have spent time and money to modify them. Better if those who modify them in this way do not pretend to be able to sell them at the price they want.

6:09 KTM is not struggling as much as you think with camshaft problems especially with the LC8 engine. I know 2 people that have almost 200.000km on stock engine 1290 SD (GT) and one guy n forum with nearly 500.000km with the older LC8 engine in the 990 or 950 (same engine, fueling difference with carb/injection)

I sincerely hope KTM survives! Connect creators who are KTM enthusiasts really need to focus more content on KTM products, rather than their finances, hoping that they survive. *I am not a KTM fanboy, I own a Triumph but I seriously value competition in the market. The 400cc market is so competitive in 2024, primarily because of KTM 390s.

tyres...widths...whew. most new 125's doing 15hp have 130 section rears. NS400R @ (a debatable) 79hp had a 110 section rear and was regarded as the top handling of the 3 big 2 strokes on sale. grey market 400's from the late 80's to early 90's made do with 60hp and 130 section tyres. We just putting bigger tyres on things because its looks cooler. Not because we need it. and yes, lets add more unsprung mass...sigh.

I don't agree with your faith that every aspect of a bike design is meticulously researched and determined. Yamaha has made a bunch of purely shitty decisions making bikes. I had an FZ1 that didn't have a relay for the ignition switch. They ran the entire +12v from the battery through a narrow wire to the ignition switch and back. I wondered why my headlight was so dim, it was because it was getting 9v after the huge drop from running the entire current of the bike through that long, narrow wire. That was simply lazy and Yamaha not giving a shit about anything. Also, nothing excuses Yamaha's frequently awful decisions about spring rate and damping of so many bikes, like the FZ07. It's not even that they chose an ideal rider weight poorly, they just mismatched the front and rear so badly the bike wasn't good for anyone. It costs literally nothing to use one spring rate over another, they just didn't care in the slightest.
