Truly a game and show beloved by many. If I had a dime every time I saw someone on KZbin or Reddit begging for the game to come back, I'd have enough money to buy a mint condition Chaor. The demand is there, so here's hoping.

Don't forget to mention, we also saw the release of Warbeasts and those had lore on them as well! The mipedian tribe conjured warbeasts to protect themselves, and one was even specifically for the royalty(I forgot which one, but it had the highest wisdom of all the warbeasts)! Some warbeasts have text that suggest not a lot of mipedians like the idea of them. That the warbeasts are unnatural, not safe (ex. the text on Glost reads "If more Warbeasts are our only hope for survival, I fear for our future!" and the text on Blazvatan reads "conjuringis worthless without control.") Although, this could 100% be fan speculation, but on the wiki take a look at Ninren. "After the M'arrillian Invasion, Ninren was created by the conjurors using a lightning storm. Originally, he was made to work with the Tribal Alliance, but when the Alliance dissolved, Ninren was instead used against the Danians." Even if this is speculation, I like to think they beat the m'rillians

I loved how good the cards looked, the design for each creature was so unique and colorful. Another great thing is when you get a creature they aren't always the same so it makes you feel you get more bang for the buck. Because you can always get a better card with better stats.
@MMAddict393 жыл бұрын
There really is amazing lore to this game, specifically because of the M'arrillians. The Mipedians start conjuring more and more dangerous Warbeasts to the point where they make the horrific Khorror and they worry that even if they win the war, Perim will still be destroyed in the ensuing chaos. Locations that existed in previous sets are slowly flooded and tainted to suit the M'arrillians like the Storm Tunnel which had 4 different cards devoted to it. You have the basic version to start, then one where it was in the process of being flooded, one after that which showed the M'arrillians had secured it and then lastly one where the M'arrillians had been pushed out but the damage was not suddenly fixed and it would have lasting consequences.
@christopherauzenne50232 жыл бұрын
also an additional fun/hilarious aspect about the M'arrillians is that when they were introduced in the show they point out how that with all the players using them for battle the game became no fun because they would always win with them which I find hilarious because stuff like that has happened in so many card games where newer cards/card architypes made old ones obsolete or made the game one sided

Back in the day I liked to collect Chaotic cards because I think they're neat and liked the show, to arrange them by rarity I went on to the online site of the time because the first set didn't write the rarity on the top right of the card so you had to check. Using the site I looked up what all the rare cards in the game were and thereby saw the new Maxor, Chaor, and Aaune cards listed in the set before those variations appeared in the show. So when certain plot points started to come up, my knowlege of these cards existing made me start to guess at plot threads. The underworld was overthrown but I knew there was a suped up Chaor and he was nowhere with the alliance so I had a feeling he'd pop up at some time, I knew there was a true form Aaune so I guessed there would be something to go ary with their plan, and Maxor wasn't in his armor so I was paying extra attention to him knowing something was off. It was really cool, made the show a lot more interesting than it probably is in objectivity and definitely makes that season 2 ending a guilty pleasure of mine. Also side note, I really like the Aivenna Nivenna lore stuff and specifically how the original cards would directly buff one another but are loyal and therefore can't be played together is super interesting. I happen to have two "major" gripes about them though. First being that their lore in the show is super underdeveloped, their sister dynamic is introduced as basically an explanitory flashback and theres never any development for them as characters as we never actually meet them. Imagine an episode where Takinom gets sick, Nivenna trys any and all healing mugic she can get given she's a Muge and gets nowhere so she reaches out to Aivenna for overworld assistence. It cullinates in the two of them sitting down and having a discussion on what being an Overworlder and Underworlder means to them, Nivenna reminising about Takinom finding and raising her, Aivenna responding in kind. It could have been great and they never did it. My second gripe is that, in my opinion, while Aivenna is equivalent in design between both of her releases Nivenna is WAY hotter in her original release than the second, which is unfortunate as they use that design for the show and theres no higher scale released art of the first that I can find. A true shame really. Anyways, excellent video. You did a great job explaining mechanical lore and its a good watch.

My absolute favorite thing about the M'arrillian Invasion arc was that it was not only a battle between the tribes of Perim and the Deep Ones, but a struggle for older cards to stay relevant in a changing metagame. There was something so poetic about it. Also, my favorite "unified" flavor text has to come from High Muge Kopond, who also is also a "loyal" card. "Tonight, we may dine as fellow muges [mages], but as the sun rises, we are enemies once again." Goes to show that different characters had different motivations for joining the united army.

Well I have some ideas on how to improve the series (the cartoon anyway). Chaotic Coins: despite the tribal rivalry the currency is universal. Chaotic players would earn chaotic Coins during their wins. CPFT (chaotic player friendly tavern): these taverns are mostly friendly to chaotic players, some would work part time for scanns. Remnant valley: this is where the code masters would put chaotic players should something happen to their counterparts in our world. There scanners will be useless if the scanner in our world is not recharged. So the only solution is put them in a valley where they would be out of the way of the main tribes. Chaotic Costumes: some believe that the main reason Perim creatures attack chaotic players are the clothes. So the solution is to have the scanners alter their clothes so that they would look more like the locals.

were not gonna talk about the time traveling?
@jeandehuit53853 жыл бұрын
Admittedly, the time travel aspect isn't conveyed as well in the cards themselves as it is in the show. Dranakis Threshold, Portal to the Past as a *card* doesn't really try to bring time-travel into the game as a mechanic (it would be neat if it reset gamestates or something, rather than just remove tribes). Kiru as a card is also disappointing; it would have been cool is it counted as both an Underworlder *and* an Overworlder (it's implied that Kiru ruled the Overworld initially, then defeated Kaal to conquer the Underworld, whereupon he started living in the Underworld full-time & started losing his heroic compass). Instead he's just a mediocre support creature that doesn't really do anything for Overworlders *or* Underworlders (a shame when he's supposed to be the paragon of both tribes). I will admit tho. that Najarin's past story is done pretty well, as are the past Mipedians (for how little card coverage they get). Dinosaur Warbeasts is just an A+ idea, as is the idea that the Mipedim Desert was once a lush jungle & everybody ignored the signs it was drying up. The Prexxor Chasm set isn't so much wrapped up in time-travel (since they're just prehistoric), so while I think they're pretty neat I don't think they really qualify for this discussion.

@@ZephyrBW Well, that's b/c Chaotic gives you the space to engage into long-term planning. W/ YGO back in the day you didn't know what you'd draw so you were incentivized to keep every card in your deck *around* the same power-level (very few Tribute monsters, b/c too many & you'd brick). Nowadays YGO ends so fast that your entire deck is an engine to create a board of lol-negates on your 1st turn, so again, no long-term planning. W/ Chaotic you have to think of various scenarios. There are parts of the game that you have good control of (your creatures, their gear, your mugic), & parts that could go horribly wrong (what your opponent's playing, what Attack Cards you draw, what Locations come up). So you can hedge your bets a bit but not a lot; you can think ahead in the general sense but not the specific (whereas in YGO you have no time to plan ahead at all).

Hey Manic, thank you so much for this video. Chaotic was my first TCG I was able get. I have some of the most popular and some of the least popular cards. I even have the leaders of the overworlders, underworlders, Mipedians, and Danians. BTW, I have a question for you. Out of all of the cards and their lore, do you know what happened to the Giants of Gigantempopolis? The reason I ask is because there is a couple of episodes where the characters hint that like Atlantis, the creatures that lived there just disappeared one day without a trace. Also in season 3, we get an episode where 2 of the main characters go back in time and see the Giants. The show never reveals what happens to them. I was hoping you could help me figure this out. You don't have to respond, but it is just a question of mine I'd throw out there
@themanicpineapple87724 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! To my admittedly limited recollection, Gigantempopolis was on OG location from the first, but it alludes to the fact that they had to face something that even their massive size couldn't deal with (see Gigantempopolis card lore) . Since the last major part of the card lore seemed to deal with going back in time, Gigantempopolis got a new version that mentions that they were still around before the tribeless got whipped out. My guess is this: the new set strongly suggested that there was this thing called "The Blight" that not only completely decimated Prexxor's Chasm (see Prexxor's Chasm: The Blight) but also had boss creatures like Smildon worried ("Through Smildon faced many worthy foes, none was as deadly as the Blight"). The issue with this theory is that it might be contracted by the TV show, which has the blight making an appearance during the Invasion Arc. Not sure how cannon that is the the card game lore itself, but it's the biggest counter to my claim. So long story short: my guess is that they couldn't deal with The Blight. I'd go ahead and post this on the Chaotic subreddit if I were you and see what those folk think: there are some dedicated Chaotic fans like us who might have a better answer. Thanks for the question, and I hope you have yourself a lovely day :) All the best, Manic

The only plot the t.v. show gave was 4 kids screwing around, with the occasional plot of we need to find the cothica, or we need to defeat this new villain that looks like a fish, or the last one were they ran out of ideas and went back to having turf wars with a few 4 episodes of the main group going to the past.

if you say back in 2007-2010, yeah, chaotic had the best lore. But MTG has this title, and Vanguard wasn't even invented, and also, there were no Yugioh Master guides telling the Duel Terminal lores back in the day. All because Chaotic had a few lore. Each Block has an Intro Set and 2 expansions, and we had 3 Blocks, with a total of 3 Intro sets and ( unfortunately) 4 expansions. In the first block, we had the dawn of the world, showing a scopeview on all 4 tribes, but giving more details about Overworld and Underworld tribes. In 1st expansion we got to see in deep detail how the Danian tribe worked, what their places were, what abilities they had, what kind of unique strategy made them who they are. And that occurred again with the Mipedians in the 2nd expansion. Instead of providing more details for the Underworld and Overworld, TC digital made their 2nd Block, Beyond the Doors, which gives us the start of a crysis that would change the balance of the story for good. An old tribe, the M'arrilians, appeared and started controlling other creatures with mind powers so they could dominate the world. On the 1st expansion of this set, we got more details about the M'arrilians, just like Danians and Mipedians got in expensions of the previous block. During the second, we saw the response all tribes did to respond the M'arrilian attack, losing a lot in the process. And in 2nd expansion, how the 4 tribes made a united front to defeat the M'arrilians and bring back the previous Status quo. During the third block, they mixed the focus for 2 points: 1- Back to the Future (main); 2- Spoilers of war ( secondary). And in the 1st expansion, it was said that it would be 1- Diplomacy ( Main) and 2- Back to the Future 2 (Secondary), but yeah... the game got 4kids'ed and ended up in a new project that may be or not published again. But does chaotic, now, stands against CFV's lore? they had a civil war, an outerspace invasion, a Flashpoint, a planetary crysis, another civil war but with time-space ruptures, a third civil war that could end 2 worlds, and a world-end deity before not making lores anymore. But that's only the lore of the events, because every single clan of the 24 playable available has its' own lore, and many cards, even common ones, have their own mini lore. And MTG, did a hell of a job with the Eldrazi crysis. There's also the Duel terminal events on Yugioh, and the Master guides storylines, that are also better constructed than Chaotic's lore.

I mean, from a purely *lore* story-perspective, yes, I'm sure MTG has a pretty good edge on Chaotic (dunno about CFV, as I know nothing about that game). I know more about YGO & Duel Terminal, but I'm kinda blah about that (for reasons I'll get to later). But partially I think that's b/c "lore" is a bad word to describe what Chaotic's theming is good at. Chaotic presents a tangled web of relationships that unfurl w/ each card. The story isn't so much about the plot (e.g. X, then Y, then Z) or the history of this world, but making each creature card feel like a real character, who has relationships w/ other creature cards. Krekk works under Van Bloot, Van Bloot rivals Chaor, Chaor works with Takinom, Takinom is rivals with Intress. Intress works for Maxxor, who also rivals Chaor, etc. There are relationships like this all through the card game, & you discover them primarily through the cards themselves; the flavour text of one card will lead you to another, & another, & another. It's a chain of relationships. With YGO, everything except Normal Monsters lacks flavour text, so the guides (which aren't provided in English, mind you) are required to explain the 'story.' & while the story takes twists & turns, it basically boils down to 'one faction is waring with another faction'; 'one faction converts a member of the other faction'; 'some crazy eldritch thing resets the world restarting the whole cycle.' The same story is told over & over again w/ no personal stakes; we don't know the personalities of, say, "Winda, Priestess of Gusto" like we do Kamangareth (who goes from killing Danians to helping Danians, with the Danians themselves still kinda hostile towards her). Plus the *mechanics* of Chaotic are really good at telling that story; the first Kamangareth counters Danians, the second Kamangareth requires you use Danians to use her effect. W/ YGO the mechanics were designed for the manga, which was *not* about the cards themselves but rather the players (Kazuki Takahashi was writing a manga about gamers, so how gamers *constructed* their decks as a matter of psychology was what was important to him). The mechanics of the game were designed around dark magic; sacrifices, spells, rituals, & the like. The monsters were reflections of ppls. souls that had been sealed in tablets & were reawakened, requiring sacrifices (hence you ‘Tribute’ monsters to ‘summon’ stronger ones). But Duel Terminal doesn’t use these mechanics. The stories told by Duel Terminal aren’t told in how the cards interact w/ each other, b/c YGO's game mechanics mirror the occult, & the Duel Terminal stories are sci-fi tales.

@@themanicpineapple8772 I just think the competition is too stiff to say "Best" definitively. I could go on a long rant about it, but honestly, I don't wanna waste your time and be all argumentative against a game I really enjoy. If you REALLY want me to, I could go into some specifics but I don't want to get into a lengthy comment debate all that much.

While the lore is interesting, it is a little confusing to follow due to it being all over the place and shoved into your face, and even not brought up as much. So if the reboot game comes back, it should try to make the lore more thought out and understandable to follow while taking all the time to let the fans knowledge of the lore sink in. Don't know if 4Kids or someone else butchered that up, just saying.
@jeandehuit53853 жыл бұрын
Was it really 'shoved in your face' tho? I never got the sense that the story overtook any more than the flavour text on the cards (& not all cards have flavour text). I mean, DoP's lore was kinda boring, as stated in the video; warring factions after the Cothica (I *do* think the Cothica was a silly addition that wasn't really necessary, IMO). But even so the main bulk of the actual lore isn't, like, the history of this world. It's more in the form of relationships. Krekk works for Van Bloot. Van Bloot rivals Chaor. Chaor works with Takinom, Takinom has a rivalry with Intress, who has a relationship with Zalic, etc. It's very much a chain of relationships to keep track of; relationships that can be helpful in terms of deck-building b/c in some cases cards that share relationships in the lore work well together in the card game (tho. not always). Plus, I mean, it's added fun when you're the guy running Van Bloot & you run into somebody playing Chaor; you just *want* to recreate that rivalry & see how it plays out. I mean, it's 'all over the place' only in the sense that the focus is on the creatures themselves rather than the world being built around them (which is kinda refreshing from a fantasy POV where most focus is on the world not the characters). I guess it's overwhelming from a YGO POV since YGO basically has no lore (want to know the story of a card? It's who owns it, full stop). *That* game is truly all over the place, since the cards inhabit no world of their own & seem to exist in their own bubbles (do Lightsworns exist in the same world as Gravekeepers? Who knows?). I mean, I can forgive this in the broad sense, since Kazuki Takahashi was writing a manga about gamers. The game was an unintended side effect that his audience became interested in, & he explored it to the best of his abilities. There was no in-game universe to explore b/c he had deadlines & had to write & draw a chapter of this thing every month (or was it week). He simply didn't have time to do that.

U can hate me. But i like the M 'arrillians. Sure a large part of them are bad but there was a sign that not all of them are like that n I have a theory that a lot of them were mind tortured into servitude.
