Pokémon Brilliant Diamond Hardcore Nuzlocke - Poison Type Pokémon Only! (No items, No overleveling)

New Pokemon games! It's about time, right? Sinnoh's not extremely slow and it makes me want to play the game so much more! But the question is, can I beat a Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlocke challenge in Brilliant Diamond version using only Water types? Well, it's a short question, but with a long answer, get some popcorn and a beverage and hope you enjoy.
Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the Type Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

I always saw nicknames as a way to make you feel more attached to the Pokémon and less willing to let them “die”

Pretty sure that's why it was a rule from the start. I'd also nickname but I guess with how often these channels do nuzlockes they probably dont develop an attachment to the Pokémon let alone bonded with them

@@SwordMuncher I feel like you're right. Once the run becomes scripted down to encounters moves, what moves the enemy has, etc. It becomes a lot less personal especially with multiple runs. So it makes sense that KZbinrs who produce so many nuzlockes don't really need that rule because it doesn't work

That is true, but, with the exception of Legends Arceus and maybe Sword and Sheild(cause of camping), it is easy to become 'numb' to the deaths because you can't really interact with the Pokémon. That's not to say you don't or can't get attached, just not as much as you would think. Or, at least that's my experience.

You can control affection by buying bitter herbs in eterna city and keeping friendship low. That's what I've been doing

This is the first successful BDSP monotype hardcore nuzlocke I've seen, all the others from my favorite creators wiped to Cynthia. The dustox sweep was amazing

Low key if you play with any nuzlocke rules like no items or over leveling and set mode the game is actually kind of difficult with just average pokemon. Not the entire game but specific battles are pretty tough

Here's a pseudo-type for your consideration of future hardcore Nuzlock's: Basic type. What is Basic type? >Must be stage 1. Either no evolutions or remains unevolved throughout the playthrough. Baby Pokemon count as stage 1. >Must be monotype. No dual type Pokemon allowed. I dunno which game this will be most fun/painful to do this in, so dealer's choice on that one.

Hi ChaoticMeatball! I really enjoy your videos! I just wanted to voice my opinion regarding nicknames of pokemon. I have never played a nuzlocke or anything, but I have been playing pokemon for YEARS. Pokemon Diamond was my first official game that I owned back in 2007, and since the beginning I have ALWAYS given my pokemon nicknames! I know it might not matter to some people, but I don't play that many games of pokemon, so the few save files I do have are very precious to me.

for anyone who doesn’t know, the bonus effects of scoring crits, dodging attacks, hanging on with 1 hp, etc etc is activated when your pokémon reaches max friendship, so as another commenter who i cant remember the name of and can’t check bc i’m on mobile said, using bitter herbs to lower friendship is your best bet if you want to avoid having these effects in your play throughs

The thing that I like about the remakes is that the hms are used thru the poke gear without having to teach them to ur Pokémon, that’s best part after gen 7, bcuz when I played Pokémon d/p/p it was so tedious and annoying to use hms rock climb strength etc

Well nicknames are supposed to make the weight of losing a pokemon harder so I wouldn't call it entirely superfluous as it adds to the challenge of the nuzlocke.

Love your series’ and watch them all the time. Though it is true that nicknames don’t have any impact on the game or gameplay, it is a “rule” for Nuzlockes because it helps you get closer to your Pokémon and create a bond.

Yes, poison type getting some love. Also, that sweep was hilarious. It's not very often you see an early route BUG pulling its weight past gym 2 (the birds have a habit of either being "good enough" or staraptor-tier and the ratatta clones, with some notable exceptions, tend to be good hm mules in the games where those things exist. Has there been an early route bug that's worth using as anything but a joke or death fodder? I think beedrill was good in gen 6, but wasn't the mega stone either really out of the way or in post-game when you'd have a dozen better options?).

One "challenge" I've wondered if it's possible is an "only OHKO damaging moves" run. No weather effects, no status moves, setup moves are okay (since I think there's some moves that guarantee a hit that'll prolly be required). No other restrictions, even allow items since Ethers in battle might be a requirement. By OHKO moves, I mean the ones that result in the "it was a one hit KO!" Message. Like Fissure and Sheer Cold. Pick your generation

I notice you said you made sure to rare candy your way to 63 It's a little bit cheesy, but it could be worth considering doing wild battles until you're *about* to hit 64 so that you can basically squeeze out an extra level in the league. And then you have a few more rare candies in reserve too.

I know this vid is old but personally I would’ve used the shiny since it fits the theme. When I was a kid I did a blind emerald nuzlocke and my encounter for a route was lotad and literally the next encounter was a shiny lotad. For me I decided the rule was I can catch and use the shiny if I release the encounter I got, but it’s never happened to me again (I did get pokerus twice though)

Probably a more valid nuzlocke if mon's that "survive" due to power of love are considered fainted after the battle finishes, not sure how to deal with the 10-20% evasion rate from affection. It's still impressive to win hardcore mono type, but you probably shoulda lost to cynthia since dustox and skunktank shoulda been dead to lucain.

About nicknames: I don't think it does anything really for a nuzlocker channel yes. Like if you have played the same game 30 times, yeah it is going to be a bit less effective. It's more for a casual nuzlocker like me who can get upset when Mr Gibbles dies. It gives the pokemon a tiny bit of personality, and if you take your time and use your imagination, yeah it does start to give Mr Gibbles the raticate a bit more personality and does make it hurt more when he dies. So no effect on gameplay but effect on the player. You my friend are numb to it though, having gone through so many nuzlockes.
