Chaplains and the Role of Spiritual Care in Healthcare

Hospital chaplains play an important part in helping patients and their families with their spiritual care needs while in the hospital. Chaplains are specially trained to be important members of the care team and can help guide patients through challenging aspects of the healthcare experience.

My wife was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour. I know he family went to church but we personally have not since we were married. She asked because she’s upset she would like to speak to clergy person. I don’t know what to do, do you have to belong to a church for this

Anyone can access Spiritual Care services (sometimes called Pastoral Care) from a Chaplain regardless of the patient's religion, spirituality or moral tradition. In addition to any specific religious needs, the Chaplain may also assist the patient (and/or their family) as they ponder the big questions in life: Why is this happening? Why is it happening to me? What does it all mean? How do I make sense of everything? How do I feel about changes in my life? What gives me comfort and hope? What do I call “good” in my life? What do I call “bad”? What am I grateful for? What do I trust? Who do I trust? Who is my “beloved community” - who loves me and is loved by me, no matter what? What or who - beyond myself - do I believe is important in my life?
