On interviews and TikTok videos she said she wanted to be an actress but also said she was kicked out of high school theater class. Doesn’t say why. She was asked if she saw her album being a film. She said no, but she said it would make a good musical. One live performance you should check out is Good Luck Babe on Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she is dressed as a white swan. During the interview portion of that show she is dressed as a black swan and is very funny.

Oh! Interesting! So she does have a bit of a connection to theatre. I agree tho, Midwest Princess would make an amazing musical. And yes! I’ve actually seen that one and it’s SO good. I kinda wish I waited to watch to share with you guys but I couldn’t help myself! lol 🤗

Re: Fallon, if you haven't watched her interview and performance in sequence, I recommend going back and enjoying them that way too. She's funny and the costumes make the interview + live song two parts of a larger carefully created piece of performance art. Love your vid!

Every time I watch this performance, I can't help but wonder if all the performers knew, while this was happening, how other-worldly this set is. Everything about it, including the imperfections, is utter perfection. That tiny desk is probably my favourite youtube video, period.

I saw the Tiny Desk before anything else and was awed. I imagine seeing it AFTER is a different experience: Almost a sense of relief that she's the real deal. That it isn't autotune or editing. That as imposible as it seems... she actually IS that good.

Rando additional observations * I've had limited -- that I've been aware of, anyway -- engagement with autists. I do know what a super-wide spectrum it has. Until watching this vid (I'm one of many youtube-roaming Chappell fanatics) it had never occurred to me how perfect of a fit a musically talented autist makes with live musical theater. Wow, that makes perfect sense. Cool. A lightbulb-flipped-on moment. * Same concept, but applying it to first reactions to the best in music on youtube? An equally great idea. A brilliant use for any extra natural passion. * Having watch MANY reaction vids this year, I'm confident I see a direct correlation between the amount of the screen the reactor takes up for themselves versus the amount allocated to the performance, and the size of the reactor's ego. With many, music reacting is transparently less about sharing happiness with others and more about themselves. I like your screen layout, you're doing this right. * "Yessss, did she say 'Be bimbos!'? YAY! My Hooters!" 😅 Funniest quick reaction I think I've heard to a Chappell ad lib. And completely appropriate in the context, too! You responded with lots of smarts, passion, and fun. Chappell's joyous Tiny Desk concert. Times its first viewing by a fan who readily bubbles with joy. Times the joy I experience watching those combined. That's one fuck of a lot of joy this has been 😃

@TheNeonRabbit In a different Tiny Desk I looked for it too and I THOUGHT that had to be it on the skull. I wondered at first, what I saw looked to me smaller on the shelf than it did on Chappell. I certainly hope they didn't take the trashbag out! That would be desecration of a national treasure, a person would deserve jail time for that!

I appreciate so much the way you talked about how because you didn't know you were autistic you thought you were just weird and hided your real self, resulting in a boring wardrobe, this has absolutely been my experience too, lately I'm digging more into my style and what kind of things I feel comfortable wearing or not, what stuff that I used to wear makes me seem like an old lady or has zero personality too😂 anyway I loved that you mentioned it because I've been thinking about it nonstop these days, literally yesterday I got rid of clothes that don't represent me at all, and that I feel bad were all I wore in my late teens. one day we'll get there❤

This comment means more to me than I can express. Tbh, I almost took that little rant out of my video thinking “no one wants to hear that, they came for Chappell”. Which is probably true in a lot of cases, but I kept it in hoping that sharing my journey of self expression and discovery could resonate with the right people. Thanks so much for sharing that you relate to this as well. It makes me feel less alone! Anyways, have an amazing week. ❤️

My favorite part of this performance is probably Pink Pony Club. It's already one of my favorites, and this acoustic version makes it even better. It sounds almost folksy at some parts (especially the addition of the fiddle, and her putting extra emphasis on the 'yodel' on certain notes she sings) in a way that sort of feels familiar, in a way. It fits well with the Midwestern aesthetic of the original song I also really love her drag for this performance, it looks like a cross between Dolly Parton and Cyndi Lauper

Seconded. It's the right length (an hour), and it provides an interesting fourth perspective on her after hearing just audio, seeing produced videos, then seeing her fully in drag with a perfect environment (this). In her broadcast Festival guise she's dealing with gigantic crowds, people singing along, a long set, live cameras, stage blocking, a pared down version of drag (so she can move in it), etc. I also think her personality is a little different. A little less deliberately ditzy for comedy. She's still funny, but the gags are a little different. I will say her first few songs at Lollapalooza show nerves. Her singing shows it a bit. Then something clicks, a few songs in, and she's spectacular.

Maybe some extra motivation: Another reactor, looking at her Feb 15, 2024 Colbert Show Red Wine Supernova (which is where I first noticed her), speculated, he wondered if she thrifts? She looks like she thrifts. I caught him up: Chappell thrifts like a madwoman. Until this year she made her own stage outfits, mostly from thrifting. She's a fiend with a hot glue gun. (She scrapbooks too. Her 2020 Love Me Anyway lyric video is her stop-motion paging through a scrapbook she made herself.)
