Genuinely was such a brilliant character. I standby the idea of him being the most complex character in the entire series and one of the best written characters in manga history. The fact that we only knew him for a few chapters and can analyse his character so thoroughly is proof of good writing. Hopefully his influence over the series doesn’t end here!

Who could have thought seeing a moth chew and melt away monsters with her blood could bring someone so much happiness? At least that is what is the smile across my face tells me finally seeing Faputa have her own purpose and dreams after such a long time. Of course Wazu never stops having his bro energy even in such a situation that lead to such a nice casual conversation even in those moments, and with that also his prophecy that show us that if we though Akihito hit no breaks this arc we are probably once again not ready for what is going to happen next. And in that matter the main trio is back! Wild to think of all that have happened since the three of them had their last conversation. And once again Maa-san best character. I still can't process we are one or two chapters away to end such an amazing arc that many of us have been following since its beginnings but here we go. And once again Mickell thank you for the more than awesome work and effort you put in these videos, the Faputa montage was amazing as everything else as always.

Finally we can now reach the 7th layer. At long last, it's finally Riko's time to truly shine. I've been waiting my entire life as a weeb for this.

@@saxifun4796 Seeing her finally get her own dedicated arc in the center spotlight for the first half of this arc was AMAZING! She needs and deserves that spotlight! She's such an underrated character. It's such a shame that she's so overshadowed by the rest of the cast. Her development is so subtle and believable like a real child. And her characterization is so interesting. She's a moe blob good girl who acts and thinks like an actual child, but is also a shounen protagonist in a seinen world at the same time. The way those two contradicting traits complement each other is just SOOO GOOD! She's my favorite character in the whole series!

What I love most about Riko is her ability to bounce back from situations and tackle her problems head on. Riko’s despair never got the better of her. From being left behind in an orphanage from her mother she never properly knew, from bearing the curse and being the most vulnerable of the team to it, from losing Prushka, even when she first is willing to make an exchange with Belafu she is willing to lose limbs just to save Nanachi. Riko has been incredibly overlooked throughout the series. I plan on making a video about her simply because she has been a brilliant character throughout the story but often her changes go unnoticed.

Also, one of my favorite moments of Riko's is what I think is the most underrated moment in all of S1. Riko's solo sequence in episode 9. Particularly her hallucinations. Such amazing character development there that goes unrecognized..I just need that solo fight tease fulfilled aaahh...XD

Man... I just read this shit again. I really hope this is not the end of Wazukian. Base on what he represent on the series he was more like an Observer more than a villain. When Wazukian has been asked by Vieko on what he is planning he said to her that "the Future of the Village is for this children to decide" when Riko is fighting the Floating waterlike beehive he does not try to hinder or help them he just observe. Based on his form on this chapter and his abilities, am I the only one who thinks that he looks like a "Seed"? I really hope that after this, his remains become a sapling then become a giant Tree like Harold on Fallout, and he becomes an Observer for the adventurers of the abyss. Tree for me symbolize Wisdom and Observer since they live pretty long and they can't move or do anything just stuck there on that environment. Wazukian is pretty knowlegable since he can see the future and doesn't really hinder people from doing what they want which is a characteristic of an observer. Also didn't he put an Egg on him? I'm pretty sure when he become a narehate it doesn't disapear it just cause a massive scar. The reason why the Egg doesn't work is because adult body is complex so maybe it will work later on when most of his body already destroyed. If this is a game Tree Wazukian can be like that one quest giver dude who be like "If you go into this direction you can find what you seek" since he know what happens in the future. And he is like a person you can ask where the monster you are trying to find go.

I do think he’s dead but I think that he will live on in the form of his final words or his “prophecy” if you will. It is said multiple times he can see the future and is some kind of prophet, in fact right after his death even nanachi wonders how far into the future he could see. I believe his death was just a necessary sacrifice for his prophecy (kinda like him using the cradle on himself). Quoting Wazukyan (“I may have been chosen by god but I still have to do everything I can”), if he REALLY wanted to live he didn’t have to sacrifice himself for the village with the acid rain. That’s just my theory tho, I really hope that he isn’t completely written out yet, he is one of my favorite characters overall.

The prophet Deaths scene was great, maybe even on par with Bondred the dad Death scene. Him and his people wanted a better life so they ran away to go find it, he did what had to be done to find a place for his people to express their wants to the fullest to the detriment of Faptua’s mom. When it came time to pay the piper no one could live comfortably in the delusional promised land of their own creation, he had to pay for the sins he committed. Sometimes I hear that false promise “get good grades, be can-do-attitude kinda guy and one day you’ll find the place that will let you be whatever you wanna be” I study criminology and in the crime of Fraud the people who commit that crime sometimes make the excuse “I was raised a winner, I can’t let myself down when all my friends are getting promotions!” And so they embezzle money and fudge the numbers till they can’t go back all because they don’t want to fail even a little bit.

Agreed!! Riko and Wazukyans exchange was the highlight of this chapter for me as well. They are so similar and at the same time so different. Seeing two people with similar ideals but clash about how to achieve those goals was so much fun to watch unfold. It was a bittersweet and charming moment for the series! Layers 7 onwards have been confirmed that the ascension within those layers lead to death. They haven’t explicitly said how that happens but they guarantee that someone who tries to ascend in those layers are asking to die.

Thankfully I’m closely tied to the Narehatte Scans translation team so the moment it is translated I’m able to start animating immediately because they provide me with HD scans! 😁 I’ve been working quite religiously on it, however I’m not even half way through animating it yet (still plenty to do!), hoping to get it out within the next week

I can honestly see it as an anime to be perfectly honest. Seeing as the length of this arc seems to exceed the Bondrewd arc I feel like for pacing reasons it would be a series as opposed to a film. HOWEVER! The idolfront arc made cuts to dialogue to ensure an appropriate film runtime so perhaps it could be the same with this arc! Either way, I’m excited to see this arc animated by proper animators 😊💕

I mean, Faputa tearing her ear and arm off and giving it to Reggu 🙃🌼 But I'm really curious how they would get the Narehate language working, especially I wonder about Majikaja voice! Some people say this arc has been kinda wierd, but personally I like it. For me it shows what kind of wonders and horrors the Abyss is capable of... The Ganja must have arrived at the bottom hundreds of years (?) before the events of the manga and created a society that shouldn't have existed in the first place. Time slows down more and more the deeper the Abyss gets, and we've come to the point where people who has seen this village can be counted on the fingers of one hand. I don't know, the concept of the Abyss just got so hard into my head, it's so exciting but so terrifying at the same time, not knowing what lies underneath, how it all works. Ganja went down to see the wonders of the Golden City after hearing it from one guy, but how did the guy know about the Golden City in the first place? There were rumors, but how did the rumors start anyway, nobody can return form the 6th layer right? Did the interference units spill some tea? Lmao I have so many questions xD What is the city anyway, who build it and who lived there? I'm so excited about this and lol I hope u don't mind this rant, Made in Abyss hit me like a train that I never expected. The soundtrack made it even better 👌The rant just came out on its own because when I looked at your comments here and there I felt like, yes this person feels similarly passionate about this and might be willing to listen :)

I can assure you, I’m just as passionate about this franchise as you are 😤👍 Always interested and happy to listen to people’s views and opinions on this series! I love Made in Abyss so much. It is genuinely a series that has changed my life and influenced how I view anime and manga as a medium. It’s cemented this idea of certain stories being unable to be told in certain formats. A story as brilliant as made in abyss NEEDS to be told as an anime/manga, it simply wouldn’t be as thought provoking and emotional had it not been presented this way! I also agree with you regarding how people view this arc. While it has received criticism, I feel the issues mostly exist due to the time it takes for chapters to be produced rather than the quality of the story. It isn’t perfect, but it’s still an exceptional experience for a franchise as brilliant as this. I also AODRE the fact that Akihito is able to keep us all *wanting more* despite giving us more questions than answers. It’s rare that a writer can keep readers so engaged by consistently posing questions rather than giving them concrete answers. I adore this series, it’s nice to see people like yourself also so engaged in his work 😊❤️

Mark my words: this isn't the last time we see this Wazukyan dude. He seems like the type of guy who has back-up plans for his back-up plans; plus he seems to have a sociopathic streak going with him being willing to sacrifice a child and her own children for his continuing adventure and apparent prophecy. I don't trust a person willing to use a little girl as a workhorse for their own gains and purposes, much less if their "death" was so dramatic and sympathetic... kind of like an actor making his grand death scene on the stage waiting for an applause.

To each of their own. I personally thought it was quite fitting for the scene to be honest. Also this animated version of this manga is based on my own interpretation of the story and in doing so I like to use music that relates to the things I love and grew up with (Final Fantasy soundtracks tend to appear in almost every episode solely because I love the franchise that much)
