We Drove to the WORLD'S SNOWIEST CITY! (Van Life in Japan)

What an extreme ending to our Japanese road trip!! Our journey to the most Northern trip becomes treacherous! With closed roads, blizzards, a bear encounter and having an entire hot spring all to ourselves so we can get the full naked onsen experience! It was one heck of an adventure that we will never forget!! Our entire roadtrip through Japan in Winter has accumulated to this point with our little Japanese Campervan. Due to extreme winter conditions we have the entire onsen all to ourselves! The wilderness of Japan is like none I've ever experienced. We cannot recommend Japan enough. And thankyou so much to Tokyo RV for providing us with our home on wheels for the trip of a life time!

We are Philly and Keely and we live full time in our tiny home on wheels Martha. After building our DIY home in a Citroen Relay camper we spent a year living on the streets of London before quitting our jobs only to be met with lockdown. Then we took our van further than she had ever been before to the very beautiful Turkey. Enroute we stopped off in Spain for a few weeks where we experienced every van lifers worst nightmare, we were robbed and they stole all valuables in our van. But now we are back on our feet, fully MOT’d and back on the road through Europe and beyond!! CHANGE OF PLAN!! Now we are in TOKYO lol!

I can't believe we didn't see Frosty . It must be rough dealing with wet clothes in such a small van . The snow is always beautiful . I just prefer to look at it out a window . So now I learned that a woman's natural furnace gets hot enough to melt snow through clothes . Who knew ?

I see you only went to northern tip of Honshu! I thought that when you mentioned you were gong to north Japan, you would go to Hokkaido. Nice snow but not as deep as some places here (Canada)!😮

Sadly we didn't have enough time on our trip to get all the way to Hokkaido, so most northern part of mainland Japan was the goal ❤️🇯🇵 We hope to come back some day soon to do Hokkaido and Southern Japan and the islands 🥰🥰 So much more to see!

That walkway to hot spring looked magical until the growling! 🔮😳☃️🐻 The bus was an excellent idea & those hot springs were bloody amazing including the powder snow! Keely u are hysterical trying to walk in that deep snow, such a cute couple! Just loved your journey in Japan thanks guys!! ❤️🇦🇺🍻

OMG, that was incredible, how did you survive camping in that weather, how did Alen drive through all that snow!!! That's trip of a lifetime stuff right there; you will remember this trip when you are old for sure. The hot springs are amazing and so cheap, so much for Japan being expensive. I'm a bit older than you guys and I can remember snow like that in the North of England was not uncommon when I was a kid, but climate change and all that... My thoughts with you in Ireland though, see you for the next chapter soon.

Sorry if I missed it, but I'm curious roughly how much did it cost to hire the campervan? I would love to vanlife in Japan. That snow up North was amazing.

Camper rental is from around £50-£100 per day in Japan, dependent on the van & company. Campervan rental seems expensive everywhere these days so best to compare it to average price of accomodation and transport etc and eating out Vs cooking in. We think it works out similar but gives you more freedom to hotel and trains. Definitely recommend it as a way to explore the country, so special. You need to have an international driving licence if from UK/America etc so something to be aware of in advance.

The onsen right at the top was 'Lamp no Yado Aoni Onsen' it was so beautiful. Northern Japan feels so untouched, well worth the visit
