"What's wrong? Gay just means you like boys." "No it's not. All my life, I've heard it used as an insult word." "Listen, you've heard it as an insult word... because it means when boys like boys." "But what's wrong with boys liking boys?" "Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but other people... they think it's wrong because they're a bit closed minded." "So, wait, all this time, when my friends have been saying 'Oh, that's so gay,' what they've really been saying is that they don't like it when boys like boys?" "Yes, Chris." "No, that's impossible. They're my friends... and they wouldn't be so mean, would they? Would they hate me if I told them that I'm gay?" "You won't know for sure until you ask them." "Oh, no, no, no, no! I used to not like being called gay because it was used more as an insult rather than referring to sexuality and stuff. But now, I really, really love being called gay. But, rather than telling people I'm gay, I just casually bring up the fact that I like guys or that there is this guy that I like when people ask me about my romantic and sexual attraction. Hmm, if only old me could see me now, shining in all my gayness and glory.

People love to insist big sweeping universal rules that oversimplify everything. Everybody does, necessarily all the time, and it has always and will always be the case, and I will not believe anything else, not a single other thing. Right! Brain done, what's next? Yeah that's where nonsense like that comes from. I don't want to think I just want to move on to whatever's after thinking. "It'll do" attitude.
@Nsinger9982 жыл бұрын
@@Torthrodhel That's because socialists took over the LGBT movement and other social movements and are using them as fronts. Socialism(tho' it may not always say it openly) believes that everything from economy to religion can be planned/controlled from the top down. This is why socialist solutions are big sweeping things that make everyone come out the same to the detriment of societal advancement and uniqueness.
@Torthrodhel2 жыл бұрын
@@Nsinger998 are you American? Just a hunch. Because you spelled communism wrong, and that tends to stem from McCarthyism's bafflingly-enduring popularity over there. And you're talking to a militant far left socialist right now. But thanks for the warning, all the same! I wouldn't want to be "taken over" by an ideology that the capitalism surrounding me already convinced me of. I'm gonna look stupid if you're not American which is entirely possible but I'm a pro wrestler, when have I ever been scared of looking stupid lol. "Took over the LGBT movement" Jesus fucking Christ that's a perspective isn't it? Don't think there's any involvement of cause-and-effect involved in that? It's simple proportions. Aside from your "pink money" gay men, we are proportionately on the poor side. Capitalism is fundamentally anti-poor. Additionally, capitalism is very deliberately ingrained as a don't-ask-questions-default. As in, you rely heavily on people to be obedient and passive in order to favour it. You know what tends to erode the standard human respect for authority and compliance that most people probably begin with? Oh I dunno, systematic oppression maybe? Yeah, bit of that ought to do the trick. Yet you posit it as if some shady group of characters got together one day and asked each other around a planning table, "who'll be a valuable mark to attach ourselves to?" Come on. Bit of an off narrative. These things happen way more organically. People - particularly mistreated people - tend to make up their own minds. Not saying that reasoning can't be flawed. Am saying it's not brainwashed like you're suggesting. I know people in the LGBT community I vehemently disagree with the politics of. Hell, I know people in the LGBT community I'd be glad to face down on opposite ends of a battlefield. We're not a monolith. We're a random collection of humans with a very roughly shared experience base in a particular relevant way, down to a shared attribute. That's what community means. Of course we don't all think the same! And the tendancies that do crop up, tend to have roots in that shared experience. Now if capitalism, liberalism, socialism and communism (and hell, throw libertarianism in there why not) were just team colours maybe it wouldn't matter. That's how a lot of people seem to want to think of them! Flags to wear. No actual fundamentals to them, just labels of teams wot are against each other. But. When your world is *actually* affected by what they stand for... that's when you stop thinking that way. That's when you recognise the actual distinctions. And can I just point out how fucking dumb it is to conflate socialism with communism I mean god DAMN I won't even say "read a book" (because I didn't) maybe just "get a clue"? Like, look shit up? Here's a clue: "the workers own the means of production" is SURELY the most widely known fundamental principle of socialism. How can the workers own anything, when the state's supposed to own everything? Duh! Obvious difference is obvious! I don't want communism. I know people who do but I think they're misguided. I don't think they know what that'd really look like. It's so damn easy for a system like that to just slide over to a basic dictatorship and drop all its principles. But even if it by some miracle didn't, I don't see it as good to live under. Better than capitalism maybe? Unsure. Could be? But why go for an unideal shift when you could instead have an ideal one? That's the problem most of these systems have. Communism, pacifism, certainly capitalism... all so vulnerable to corruption. And you don't end up getting what you asked for. I do believe in a significant amount of top-down control. That's about the only thing upon which me and conservative capitalists can agree. We'd apply it in VERY opposite ways for VERY different reasons. But without the force necessary to ensure your way stays what it's supposed to be, what's the point of installing it in the first place? Just to watch it crumble to whatever else fancies coming along and taking over (whether that be from within or from without). Usually self-interest corruption. I think greed motive is bad, basically. I think balance motive is good. There's your bare-bones, boiled down core! Self-interest versus everyone-interest. Do we push forth the incumbent or do we pull up the struggling? There are your actual ideologies. But there are, obviously, also a hell of a lot of pragmatic details to vary them along. And hell, my views are fairly unusual. I'm very much in favour of a strong military and robust justice system, and quite anti-pacifist. Even somewhat pro-intervention. Most of us are individuals of an odd mix. Why because most of us have been forced by life into situations where it's worth having an actual good long deep inner think in these directions. Get a lot higher proportion of void-understanders when you look among the void-starers. :) Hope this illuminates a bunch of stuff.
@Nsinger9982 жыл бұрын
@@Torthrodhel I HAVE read books; And Communism and Socialism were used interchangeably for far longer then the post Lenin period when they were differentiated. I do the same sometimes and should try to stop. I apologize for the confusion. Militant far left socialist....Tells me all I need to know about you. I will trouble you no further. But I do think your conflating movements with the people a movement purports to support. BLM claims to support black people but has only ruined their lives by burning down their communities and creating general lawlessness in their wake. I know LGBT people are varied in belief but there is a distinct movement that grew up around them and affects them whether they like or not. One thing I've noticed about these movements(BLM, LGBT, Woke, Ect) is that they all tend to be socialist in nature which should be unlikely. How many times have they explained their 'Greivances' but they either have no solutions or their soIutions required switching to a socialist system? I also recommend watching interviews with Yuri Bezmenov as he was the one who blew the lid off the USSR's 'Active Measures' program but they are not the only ones who have tried this stuff. I never said capitalism is perfect but its the best economic system we have at the moment and has a perfect track record as economic systems go(Ups and downs are part of the system not a flaw).

The whole point of his satire is to point out how the only “exceptable” gay person in the media is one that is incredibly soft core to a point to where they have no sexuality. Which is done to brace for reactionary heteronormative standards. Hence Love, Simon, a story about a boy who was incredibly privileged to have accepting parents and good friends who stood by him, which sadly isnt everyone’s story. If they really wanted to show the reality of being gay, then they probs wouldn’t have picked a straight passing white boy to do that. The whole point it is incredibly romanticized and dulled down for the straight world. Anything outside of Love, Simon or stereotypical background sassy white guy is too “in peoples face”.

They also dull down straight sexuality, never putting tongue Ina missing scene, never making a realistic sex scene since they're all vanilla as hell and overly dramatic, and they don't talk about anything sexually raunchy either. It's not that gay people are being dulled for the straights, it's that they dull down all sexuality on TV and movies on the vast majority of cases. I don't want to see a sex scene as described between the two gay men in this video of it was a man and a woman because I'm not watching a porno, I'm watching something for the story. So unless the exact nature of the sex is relevant and can't be disclosed using any dialogue for whatever reason, I'd rather not watch more aggressive sex in movies.

@@chappiedatass1361 This is exactly my thought and that of many people I know. I watch for the plot, not the explicitness. Raunchy comedy has its place, but I don't want sex scenes straight, gay, or any where else on the spectrum in most media. Like Simpsons joked: Pride Parade: "We're here, we're queer!" Lisa: "We're used to it." Put in more gay characters where the story is presented through that lens, or just where their relationship is as non-focal as any other if the plot is focused on something else entirely. Similarly, don't shoehorn in some dumb relationship if it has nothing to do with the plot.

Sinon's Life That’s exactly why the gay trans kid in my class liked the movie so much. For example, it showed how even when you have non-homophobic parents, coming out can still feel awkward and scary because you don’t know if you’ll be treated too differently.

I love the book simon vs the homosapien agenda but the movie love Simon was like kind of alright but they removed the parts that I really loved which where 1. The entire story where simons friends take him to gay bar and he gets shitfaced and tries to hook up with some random dude and 2. @book_wolf_19393 жыл бұрын
I haven't read the book or watched the movie but I get what you're saying, my friends always do stuff and say it's coz they're gay (gay as an umbrella term for LGBT+) and I just keep thinking, what does that have to do with anything? You're allowed to be who you are and still be part of the LGBT+ community, love and gender identity are not all there is to us, you can act however you want and like whatever you want and it won't affect who you love, that's just my opinion though, if anyone disagrees with me I really wanna here what you have to say because maybe then I can understand this whole thing more, btw I am part of the LGBT+ community so I'm not just saying this as some straight outsider, I just don't believe that who I am or in my case not attracted to does not affect my interests and personality
@sgmdogs39333 жыл бұрын
Yes! Being lgbt is one aspect of me but not everything. The majority of people in my life are unaware of my sexuality and specifically one of my friends is no exception. If she knew I was lgbt then it would mean I couldn't be her friend anymore all due to that one thing about myself. I know that people will say that it's not worth having a friendship with somebody who doesn't accept the real you but I don't want to blame her. I live in a conservative area and her dad is literally a preacher. She's been brought up to learn stuff like that. She's a great friend in almost every other aspect and I don't understand why learning one detail about me would change everything Nothing about me or my personality would change with knowing I'm LGBT..
@book_wolf_19393 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's not everything about you, and I can understand not wanting to let go of a friend, I can't even do that to the 'friend' I don't like, they just get in my space and make me really uncomfortable and basically triggered my mental illness like genuinely started being the reason I submerged myself in its habits and such, I'm not gonna say what it is coz I haven't even told my friends, just coz we're in lock down and it's a big deal to me and I want to tell them face to face. Anyways, maybe you can try by coaxing them into understanding, and again, this is only if you want to but, you can build a tolerance, acceptance is a whole other step but start with tolerance, you don't have to say anything about yourself but you guys could maybe watch a show with a LGBT+ character and see how they react as the show continues. Again, you may be comfortable with the way you are right now and that is completely valid, also you didn't really ask for advice so sorry if this is just annoying and you've already thought of that and why it wouldn't work, I don't personally know your situation so I can't really comment, I do think you need to trust yourself here more than anything, and do what makes you happiest so I'm not going to tell you to dump this friend, do what you think is best.
@sgmdogs39333 жыл бұрын
@@book_wolf_1939Thank you for nice reply! I appreciate your understanding. I expected to get replies telling me I'm crazy for keeping the friendship. Thanks for the advice as well. It's helpful. I'll try your suggestion with the T.V show. Afterall, like I mentioned above she was taught to not be okay with LGBT her entire life. If she can realize that people who are LGBT are not much different than her then maybe she'll be able to reevaluate what she's been taught all these years. I'm not trying to make her go against her religion, so I would be thrilled with her simply being tolerant of it. Afterall that's much greater than acting hateful. I wish you the best of luck with your mental health and your bad habits.
@book_wolf_19393 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the support, I am definitely working on my mental health and I'm glad you took my advice into account because I do think it's worth a shot, she's someone important in your life correct? So you shouldn't have to give her up just because of one little aspect of you. Prioritize your feelings and such of course but I understand how difficult it can be to help someone unlearn those kinds of things, and the earlier in their life the better, like my dad reckons it's too late for him to change, I think it's just an excuse he likes to use a lot in multiple situations but I do know that unlearning things is a gentle and slow process. My only warning with this is that whilst we should educate the people we care about and that we want to tell these things to safely, we don't have to educate everyone, that would be exhausting, though you've probably already thought of this, jist wanted to make sure that we were clear on it. I really think your friemd is worth it and I wish ypu the best of luck

@@Udontkno7 Lots of shows portray the LGBT community and their struggles in different ways. Characters like this are just what the video said, "gateway gays", meant to make people see gays as just people, not a cliche over the top only feminine group, and not feel like it's forced. This is a natural step in the evolution of portrayal of groups. First, cliches of the group dominate their portrayal. Then, characters made to just be the same as the everyman so the audience sheds the cliche view. Finally, the same treatment as any other characters. Lots of media has moved on to that step already. Just need to find it. I'm not a big show watcher, so I can't make any good suggestions.

I was actually very upset whenever the Love, Simon movie came out. There was barely any backlash for Simon coming out. There was only one instance in which he was bullied (minus him being blackmailed) throughout the whole film. I was so distraught because I finally thought there was gonna be some nice representation with some actual struggling. Something to put privileged individuals in the shoes of non straight people even for just an hour. In a perfect world, Love, Simon would have been amazing. But, the world isn't perfect and life for gay people isn't always that easy. Simon was one of the lucky ones who only had a small argument with his father for under a week. And then he was just like, "well okay son I still love you and accept you ❤️❤️" He was one of the lucky ones to have most, if not all of his friends stay with him and not ditch him for coming out. As someone who's been alienated from my peers ever since I was 13 for being LGBTQ+, the movie had me in painful tears. Not because it was great, but because he had it way too easy. I didn't connect with him at all. ;; I'm not saying you can't like the movie or anything. Just, it was too undercooked in my opinion.

I love this vid because it definitely points out how idealistic and glitzy Love, Simon is - but there's a place for movies like that, I think. People have different ways of coping with things. Some people want to see the struggles they face represented in media with accuracy so they feel validated. Other people want to see an ideal, a version that shows how it could be so it gives them hope and inspiration. I've done it myself with my own writing. Sometimes the stories I want to write are about the struggles I face and how characters deal with those struggles - how they're not treated well by society, how they feel alone and depressed and outcast because of who they are. Other times I write about the idealistic "what ifs" - if those characters were loved and accepted instead, if instead of being alone and depressed they had a friend or a lover to be with them. I find comfort and emotional catharsis in both of those stories. Neither of those stories are bad. But different people will relate to different things at different points in their lives because we're all different. I think we need all sorts of perspectives, because we're all different. Some people need to see their pain on the screen to be validated, to know that it's real and they're not alone and other people feel this too. Some people need an inspiring and comforting story on the screen so that they can feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed. And those needs will change over the course of a lifetime. My issue with Love, Simon isn't that it's a soft love story, but more that it doesn't feel very authentic. Something that I read once really stuck with me: anyone can write a story with a gay character, but writing a story about being gay is a very different matter. Ultimately, we're all just people no matter who we're into - being gay is not a personality. But it affects your life, your decisions, your behavior at times, and writing a story about that when you've never had that happen to you feels... fake.

You're missing the inspirational speech about how being gay is okay, and automatically the homophobes become okay with the fact that you're gay.
