I think what makes me and perhaps others, most curious is how you are able to lift the charcoal off with such ease. I guess I’m double dipping too much causing the paper to get too nasty. I suppose your choices look pretty decisive right away, where I have a tendency to fumble around with my shapes before I can figure them out.

Thank you for the comment! In the areas where the tone is created by brushing the material around, it lifts off effortlessly. In areas where I’ve directly applied it, somewhat less so. The paper can get dirty with work though, and some artists come in with white chalk at the end and clean it up a bit.

Nice :-) is that just vine charcoal? what kind of paper do you recommend using so it doesn’t just fall off the page?

This is either vine or willow, probably vine. I use Strathmore 300 and 400 series drawing paper quite a lot, but natural charcoal always needs to be sprayed with a fixative when finished to keep it on the page. :)
