after a lifetime of being told to "Just pick up your feet!" I was so very fortunate to find a Doctor to describe this. Thank you for this video! I felt so uniformed discussing this, its great to have videos like yours to inform myself with :)

Some types of CMT don't involve myelin at all. Some CMT types are axonal. Those people have normal velocity but decreased amplitude. Sural Nerve is at the ankle rather than the back of the calf. And there are many more different types than 7. A lot of people with CMT have an elevated CK level. CMT can be late onset. with no symptoms for several decades. Only some types start in childhood. I think you're misrepresented what CMT is.
@saidnassr99633 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but myelin sheath is also produced by the oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system not only by shwann cells in the Peripheral Nervous System
@puddlesplasher72 жыл бұрын
CMT is peripheral disorder tho....so it affects Schwann cells, not oligos. This video poorly explains it. If you look at the genes, like PMP22, that will make it make more sense. PMP22 is the gene involved in the most common type. This dude is pronouncing the disease name wrong. Also, type 1 diseases affects myelin; type 2 affects axons and mitochondria

@flaminmongrel6955 true true... in the 1X model, it seems like the mutation affects connexin which is under myelin sheath near nodes (its under/at paranodal loops) and holds the myelin to axon

I have HNPP where can I find an article about the anesthetics?
@flaminmongrel69558 ай бұрын
Articles aren't the 'go to' for medical knowledge since you will end up at pieces written based on journals which have conflicting findings but NCBI is one good source of research publishes so you can read the conclusion parts there, however you may find it difficult to comprehend if you aren't familiar with medical terminology.

the diaphragm is affected. the lungs are smaller on a patient with CMT and the esophagus sometimes has a tendency to close up so at times it can be hard to swallow food and it will get stuck in your esophagus and even liquids will sometimes get stuck the solution to that is to go to a GI doctor have an endoscope done and they can stretch your esophagus open.so when he says there's no respiratory issues that is not true I have been to a lecture with a doctor with a room full of other doctors and that was one thing he's stressed was that the diaphragm it's a muscle and he said it is affected so what this man is saying don't believe him get tested I've been tested for sleep apnea and I have terrible obstructive sleep apnea so that is not true that it does not affect your respiratory system it affects your GI system it affects anything in your body that has a muscle!

Everyone has different symptoms with various levels of severity and speed of progression. Personally I've had problems my whole life. Speech and Walking issues as a child. Hearing loss. Loss of smell. Loss of some taste. Very bad hip pain. I'm just glad i learned what was wrong with me at 25.
