People having a pop at Chards for not naming the dealer, well think on this, Chards only have the word of the customer that they bought them from xyz company, they could be mistaken or even trying to make mischief. Naming the alleged dealer without specific proof, i.e. Chards themselves directly ordered from said dealer and had them verified independently would leave them open for legal action. The coins shown weren't exactly difficult to spot even for an average Joe, although it would have been good to know the weight and dimensions to see if they checked out as most people can at least do that at home without fancy testing machines. At least people can now be aware to check coins they purchase even from main dealers.

The issue I have with this video is its cynical marketing for Chards. The message, "Buy from Chards or you may get screwed". If the subject had been presented in a different way, for example, "Be careful to check for fakes when buying". Fine. But the presentation is cynical and designed to scare buyers from purchasing from other main dealers. When I looked at investing in gold I was amazed by how many wide boys there were. Rob Moore interviewed the owner of The Pure Gold Company who made comments about finance I know to be incorrect. It was basically a 1 hour advert for gold. I have a lack of trust in this market. Following my initial small £25k investment in gold I'll stick with ETF's like Vanguard's VWRP and VUAG which have returned 34.2% this year. And no huge spread fees! Don't get me started on silver where unless vaulted outside the EU or run through a LTD company you have to cover 20% vat + 5% inflation + lost opportunity cost of sticking money in saving or ETF - 30 -64% this year.

I suppose one could say that the two coins, because they carried the Arabic mark, were actually marked as fake from the beginning; and should have been a warning to anyone being offered them. This is a bit concerning, I bought mine purely for the gold content, so even these coins in the video aren’t a total loss, they have a fair bit of gold in them and since I bought my last lot they’ve outpaced inflation by X3, so they still have more value than when they were bought. But I stopped buying “best value “ Sovs from my dealer cos the savings aren’t worth having when I can get brand new Royal Mint Sovs in RM packaging for a few quid more. I’ve seen old videos of dealers sorting hundreds of Sovs by hand and eye and they only spend a couple of seconds per coin, so mistakes must surely happen, but when they’re sending out small amounts to retail customers they should be more discerning than that.
@lawrencechard59142 ай бұрын
I only need a few seconds to check most sovereigns, but some do get more attention, so it may be some of our videos you have seen. The experienced human eye and brain are still quicker and more reliable for this then any machine. Mistakes are still possible. The levels of nickel and cadmium are an eye-opener and suggest to me that at some point in the past this coin was part of a truly large scrap gold melt, into which one small old-style nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery fell. A Ni-Cad battery is mostly nickel with only 6-18% cadmium, so the base metal extraction system in use must be good enough to get rid of a lot of nickel. You'd actually expect a gold smelter to have a way of getting rid of a lot of nickel since it will be present in most cheap jewellery as a silver-substitute. Getting rid of cadmium however, why would you expect to see any cadmium? You wouldn't (except here some sort of cheap trinket had a Ni-Cad cell in it for some reason) so you'd not put in a cadmium remover.

I was just trying to get across the idea that some learning might be a benefit in the long run, but I realise how hard it is to convey the experience gained from examining many, many coins.
