Love my 96 Impala. I bought it new. Back in 1997 and 1998 I was a member of SoCalSS. We used to meet at Pomona Drag Strip to have a lot of fun and friendly competition in the 1/4 mile. There were about 25 to 30 of us on a Saturday morning. It looked like the FBI had descended upon the drag strip with all those big black four door sedans. My bone stock Impala turned 15.3 in the 1/4 mile. After a few minor mods, I got my times down to 14.7 seconds. Not bad for a 2 ton beast. My Impala is more or less retired now (garage queen) with 303,000 miles.

My bone stock 96 Impala SS turned 15.3 seconds at Pomona. Then I did some minor mods like Flowmasters with H pipe and a cold air intake. That got the ET at Pomona down to 14.7. Not bad for a 4400 pound beast!

The only thing that amazes me about this race is why you would think the Impala would be a close competitor to the HC. It's about as unevenly matched as you can get. Next up stock Kia Sedona van vs Z06 Vette. It's like the biggest kid in the eleventh grade vs the smallest 2nd grader. Races are generally assumed to be closer matched.

that impala was stock, no way it wasnt. I have 1 that runs 12.5 to 13 easy. I have my heads done, gearing, camed, intake, and a shiftkit. In total its about 450ish horsepower. The Hellcat would still most likely beat me tho.

I just love how they always pick a much older car to race against, plus the Impy SS is NA, mild cam, different gearing, etc. charger is factory modified, more cubic inches, supercharged, high lift cam, performance gears, close ratio trans. Employ those modifications to the Impy SS and the charger will be discharged, badly. Lol

impala needs a supercharger or turbo charger to compete. I added a ebay cheap turbo to my old impala before I sold it. It went from a stock 15 sec 1/4 to a sold 13 sec. keeping the stock engine. To make it faster you would need to swap in another engine. I added bigger injectors, K&N air filter, ebay turbo, 2 cherry bomb glass pack mufflers along with removing 2 cats, intercooler, blowoff valve, wastegate, larger fuel pump, Castro synt oil, purple ice radiator fluid, royal purple max tranny fluid along with tranny upgrades.
