Love your vids, but I question your technique attaching lines to the system. The high pressure test line should be connected when the system is OFF, the low pressure test line should be connected when the system is ON. Puron costs us consumers 50 dollars a pound. My last tech vented enough 410A to really piss me off (and then claimed I needed to pay for a puron charge).

@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
Yes you could wait five minutes for the unit the equalize and then disconnect the red but if you are doing the disconnect process then you would be loosing much less refrigerant anyway since you are charging refrigerant from the red back into the blue after disconnecting, thanks

I noticed you didn't purge the liquid hose upon connection. Could that of caused a different pressure reading? 2. If i wanted to add refrigerant using the low side if i was using r410a, I would put the kwik charge device directly on the refrigerant tank upside down; while the liquid valve on the gauge was closed. correct?

The only way you would do that is if the system was off and you were breaking the vacuum with liquid refrigerant into the empty and vacuumed liquid line. You can recover by pulling from both sides while the unit is off. In this video the system was running so refrigerant would need to be added into the low pressure side slowly, thanks!

Question for you Craig (or any other techs who can chime in) about that Imperial 535-C Kwik Charge: I just bought one off Amazon and the label on mine is pointing the opposite way. The "Flow" direction points from the male threaded end toward the female end (just opposite of yours and all the others I've seen online). Bought it brand new in sealed package, so it has not been tampered with. Not sure if the label is just backwards or if perhaps the end caps are flipped around, as I know they can be swapped side to side. When I blow low pressure air through it from the female side toward the male threaded end, no air passes through it... when I apply the same low pressure air in the opposte direction, from the male threaded end toward the female end, the air passes through it freely. Which way is correct? Trying to determine if the label was just put on wrong or if these end caps are on the wrong ends. First time using this particular item, so I'm trying to make sure mine us set up correctly, as something obviously isn't right with it as is. Really appreciate your videos, btw... they are superbly done.

Look up acservicetech disconnect procedure. I show this with 3 position valves and schrader valves. Basically you charge the liquid back into the vapor side after disconnecting the liquid gauge so the amount that is left in the gauges is only a very small amount of vapor. That would be de minimis. Thanks Ronald!

Mate, technically there is remaining gas in side the manifold gauge after he turn off the fittings connector at both yellow red hose and plug off both of it. To make it's empty, blue hose need to be remain attached to the compressor unit and during this process, the compressor unit need to remain on, so the balance gas inside the manifold gauge and hoses will be suck to the compressor unit automatically. Reading at the manifold gauge is still active because there was a pressure suction caused by the compressor unit while it's running.

Does the port have a schrader valve? Typically the valves with the allen key are not king valves and do have a schrader attached in the 1/4 connection for the hose. It is the square stems that are king valves which require mid seating to get refrigerant from the line valve to the 1/4" connection port -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4nOooKJlNasrdE -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5XYYXVplLyeqdU

Number 1. What's with you AC guys always using bubbly to check leaks? I bought a wand style Freon detector for $21 off Amazon and it works great and I'm not an AC guy. 2. Great demo, but you're using hoses with cut off valves on the end, which explains why you didn't purge the lines when you hooked them up? 3. Back to number 2, if your hoses don't have valves on them, you have to first hook them up with the system off so the suction line doesn't suck in air on the blue line using no cut off valve hoses, next purge out the air, then turn on the system, correct?

The sat pressure in the bottle will be the same as the saturated pressure in the system. Some people just meter the liquid in extra slowly by the handle instead of with the kwik charge 535-c. I love that kwik charge but it can be done slower without it. Thanks Michael Kokoschka!

The reason is because in this video I did not add any refrigerant but only checked the charge and then put the liquid back in. When adding refrigerant from the hoses to the unit, do you have to do anything different if your hoses don't have those shutting valve at the end?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
It is more about loosing a lot of refrigerant when disconnecting more than anything else. You could purchase valve connectors for the end of the hoses. I have them linked here- amazon.com/shop/acservicetech , thanks

Awesome, that was a quick response, thank you! On another issue, I connected my brand new YJ set to my unit (410a w/interior TXV) in order to find subcooling (9 degree per unit label). My high side gauge went all the way up to 250 psi where it settled. However, my low side gauge didn't move a bit from 0. Also, saturated temp was 2 degrees above temp of high side line. Not sure how to proceed, I disconnected the lines. Should I ignore the no pressure on high end gauge and the temp differences and add a little refrigerant to see how the unit reacts to it? Everything else is working properly, but the air coming out of the registers is not cool. Texas heat is already in the mid nineties, yikes! Thank you!

Your videos are great! Is it okay to keep the leftover refrigerant in the manifold hoses to reduce air contamination the next time you connect the gauges to a unit, or does that put too much stress on the hoses over time; also, is it a good idea to pull a vacuum on the hoses before connecting them to reduce air contamination. Thanks.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 7 жыл бұрын
Those ideas are both good but epa 608 does not give any other guidance than that you can't move refrigerant from one system with a certain owner into to another system with a different owner. I would still perform the disconnect procedure but when I work on two or three systems at one house that are the same age and shape then I do just leave the vapor in so I don't have to purge again at that location, thanks

Yes systems with a txv in front of the evap need to be on at both the inside and outdoor units with proper airflow. This process is correct for single speed and two speed compressors. Thanks

Hi Ac, I am getting ready to connect to my first unit since leaving college, I have a Testo 570 gauge set and I have just got one of the imperial vaporisers that you recommend, can I connect one of the probes to the liquid line to get an automatic Sub cooling measurement ? , I suspect something is wrong with this walk in freezer as the suction line valve outside keeps icing up badly, there is ice on the evaporator coil inside and lot of fins bashed in, fans seem to be working, whoever fitted the units though has put no fall on the drain pipes and outside the outlet is bone dry, any advice would be gratefully received
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 5 жыл бұрын
Depending on the temp the freezer is supposed to run at, it may have or need a defrost function. This can be electrical or part of the refrigeration circuit in the form of a hot gas bypass. You don't want to check a charge while the system is frozen. Is there too much product to move to defrost the freezer? I don't have many videos on refrigeration but mainly air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces.

Great video! I am learning HVAC by myself and I find your videos very helpful. questions: Is the compressor running when you try to charge the liquid Freon to the suction line? I guess it has to be, but just can't hear any noise in video. How much Freon you gonna lose if you don't charge the liquid back to the unit? When you purge the yellow hose, how do you know the air is completely out? Thank you!
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 8 жыл бұрын
The compressor is running but my mic cancels out the background noise. The best way to disconnect is to anticipate and charge the remainder of the liquid into the system but to make sure you are not overcharging. I would think that the hoses would have a 3 or 4 ounces maybe due to liquid in both the yellow and red hose. You could also work with 3' hoses instead of 5' hoses. The air makes one noise and is clear and the refrigerant makes a different noise and changes to vapor so you can tell. As soon as you see and hear the change you stop venting the air. Thanks for the questions!

A comfort cooling unit can run continually with no problems as long the indoor temp does not go below 68 degrees and you have the proper airflow across the coil, thanks. It shouldn't though because that would mean that the unit was not sized large enough to be able to remove the heat load, thanks

We are going to charge a system at work that holds about 16 pounds of 410a tomorrow & I told my boss to get us a vaporizer for the gauges so we can charge the way we were taught. He went to get it and apparently they told him at the supply house that no one uses those and they don’t stock them but they could order it if he wants to waste money. They told him it’s ok to charge without it, is that correct or would we damage compressor charging liquid with no meter in line?

I always use a restrictor to flash the liquid to gas. Why risk hurting the compressor? You need to get a new supply house.

What is the reason for taking off the valve caps?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
The valve caps for the ports or the valve caps for the stem? Ports allow pressure to the gauge set and the stem valves on three position valves allow front seat, mid seat and back seat. In the case of this system, it just has a two position valve with schrader valves in the ports, thanks
@sirvaant

Yeah not the caps for the Schrader valve but the the top caps that you took off for the service valves

I noticed when you first connected your guages to the system, that you did not purge the air from the lines. Is this normal to do this? Also the connection where you connect the red hose, is this true head pressure or is this liquid line pressure?
@acservicetechchannel

That was just liquid pressure though some call it head pressure. Some purge the air before putting the liquid back into the vapor side and some purge the air right away. It won't mess up the readings either way, thanks
