MaadAzzGang I haven't watched all of them. I stopped watching his movies a long time ago. I haven't seen one of his new movies in like 3 or 4 years. The Madea thing is getting overplayed now. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that what happens in almost all of his movies.

Tyler Perry is a good business man, but he has a point that almost every movie he has, there is an evil black man who is abusive and cheats, and then the lady leaves to go live with Madea, and she meets a pretty light skinned dude, who comes to save her like a knight in shining armor. Its the same plot for almost all his movies. But his main audiences are the women who he has in his titles. “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf” is a historical black play written by Ntozake Shange, that’s not just important to theatre history but black history as well. The play is comprised of simple yet difficult poetic monologues, dance pieces and music that showcase black women and their own personal struggles of oppression, sexism, and racism in the society that they live in. It was written in 1975 and it remains a powerful piece of theatre still to this day. A film adaptation should not been given to Tyler Perry in the first place.

Precious was the hardest movie to ever sit through. The most depressing life you could ever imagine and just a sad story all around. A sexually abusive father, with whom she had 2 kids with and an emotionally, verbally and physically abusive mother. Then she ends up having HIV which she got from her dad. They try to make it seem like she'll have a better life even though it takes place in 1987 when HIV was extremely deadly. If the HIV doesn't kill her the diabetes definitely will.

I just always saw the previews and thought "predictable" and never saw any of his movies. Even when Madea came out people was tellin me about how funny it was and I always passed on them . I think Charlamagne has a point though.

I get what Char is saying, but I actually liked Temptation more so because of the ending and the message. (Spoiler Alert coming) The girl cheats on a good dude (Lance Gross) because she thought he was boring and didn't appreciate his efforts to try to make her happy. The girl gets aids for fucking with a dude she didn't consider to be lame. She regrets her choice, but it is too late for her to go back to Lance (the good guy) because he is already married to someone who appreciates him for who he is. What's so horrifying about that? The message is if you have somebody good cherish them or someone else will.

But yes I do fully agree. Tyler is just another simp who makes black men look bad so women (mainly black women) can keep dishing out their dollars to him.

If you look at all of Tyler Perry's Television series of House of Payne where Lance Gross played Calvin he keeps make Calvin look bad and makes Allene Payne more of a hero type like everybody should look to CJ.
@JLongbone10 жыл бұрын
There are huge holes in his assessment. For one thing For Colored Girls & Precious don't even count because he was merely a producer and had no influence on the writing or directing whatsoever. Second, what about Lance Gross from Temptation, Daddy's Little Girls, TP and Shemar Moore's characters from Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Rockmond Dunbar's character from The Family That Preys, Derek Luke from Madea Goes To Jail, Boris Kodjoe from Madea's Family Reunion, every male character from Why Did I Get Married, and Bow Wow, the Old Spice dude and every male character from Madea's Big Happy Family? He completely ignores all of these men. And what about all his movies with white characters? Cole Hauser in the Family That Preys was a total spoiled piece of shit who cheated on his wife with a married woman and tried to steal his family's company from his own mother -- I don't see white people up in arms saying "Tyler Perry is trying to make us look bad!" I've seen almost every Tyler Perry movie, his plays (almost), and i've peeked at a few of his tv shows. If anything he shows the bad and the good of *both* men and women. The thing is, TP is a basic storyteller. The story is set up with a villain and a good guy. If you watch his movies notice how there's almost always a bad man, a good man, the woman in the middle that has to choose between the both of them. Just basic "girl gets tied to the train tracks so good guy can save her" type of shit. This is basic formulaic Hollywood storytelling. What TP does is no different from what white directors/writers/producers have been doing for decades. The characters just so happen to be black. That's it. TP has even said his movies are inspired by his things from his childhood. So to say that he has a vendetta against black men or is trying to make them look bad when he's had plenty of kind, intelligent, caring, hard working, successful black men in his movies (some of them complete and utter saints like Shemar's character) is illogical and wrong. TP's movies thrive on melodrama, that's why he goes hard in almost every movie he makes. *He's black*, so he makes movies with *black people in them*. Simple equation. If he hated black men, why do most of his movies end with a black woman getting a fantastic black man in the end? Wouldn't he perpetuate the stereotype that black women are better off either alone or with another race because black men are unreliable? Don't get me wrong TP's movies have *definitely* declined in quality since Why Did I Get Married and his shows suck but dude is not "making black men look bad" most rappers already do that for him

Cris Griffin Ah! My mistake. My point still stands though. Keep in mind, the For Colored Girls was based on a play by Ntozake Shange. It's not his story, Tyler Perry only adapted it to the screen.

Charlamagne is contradicting himself just a little bit here because there are a hand full of VLAD interviews where he speaks extremely negative about Black men, so why is he calling out Tyler Perry on it? Kinda of hypocritical.....right?
@ronaldeatman660310 жыл бұрын
And try to understand I am no fan of Tyler Perry neither but keep in mind his entire style especially the Madia series is all about Melodrama, which is a style of story telling that tends to over exaggerate emotional attributes of story plots and characters.

Ridiculous view. Don't we all know a black man that became successful with one woman at his side, only to leave her for someone younger and better looking? Tyler Perry didn't invent that. Also, in 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman', didn't Shamar Moore play a good, hard-working black man and didn't Tyler Perry, himself, play a successful lawyer? We all know black men like them, too. It all depends on what you focus on, in the movies, but more times than not, both sides are represented. P.S. There's characters in just about every black movie that make black people look bad. Best Man, Friday, Boyz in da Hood, Color Purple. Those movies all have characters that make us look good, too. Focus, people.

Reuben Cannon, Marvin Lawrence Winans, Allen Payne,Lance Darnell Gross, Rockmond Dunbar, Boris Kodjoe. All these black male actors played positive roles in Tyler Perry Productions. It easy for folks to focus on the bad verse the positive images. If one took the time, you will find more black male positive portrayals in his productions.

Just a bit of fact to Charlamagne regarding Tyler Perry's role in the For Colored Girls (2010) film - it is an adaptation from Ntozake Shange's Tony-nominated stage play For colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf (1975). The original is written and acted as a poetic stage play featuring numerous monologues on the topics presented in the film version, but for the movie adaptation more dialogue and character interaction was written to see the interconnectedness of the lives of the characters represented. Although it was pretty dramatic, I wouldn't classify it as an African-American horror story because it is a "landmark piece" of literary work telling the stories that some women out there may have actually experienced AND overcome.

Black men killing other Black men in the hood, but Tyler Perry makes Black men look bad. I think people forget that with the vast majority of stereotypes there lays some truth - Some more than others obviously. Although I believe he's talented, I have *never* particularly cared for T. Perry's work, however, I don't think his prime goal is to degrade African American men & intentionally misrepresent our community as a whole. For those who take great issue with such portrayals, direct your disapproval where it actually belongs: At the large portion of ignorant fools within our ranks who continue to engage in the fuckery that has you up in arms.

At first it was just the light skinned black men who were the good guys. In “Diary Of A Mad Black Woman” the hardworking light skinned gardener was the good man while Steve Harris was evil. Then in “Family Reunion” Blair Underwood was the asshole and Boris Kodjoe was the good guy. He realized that people had caught on and cut that trope out. Plus these guys were like comic book bad guys. They did everything but go “MWAH HA HA HAAA!!!” With roaring in the background!

After this video interview was recorded, Charlamagne was giving interviews where he consistently set a bad example by using foul and disrespectful language towards his guests. For example he interviewed Sister Souljah and he spoke stupidly and disrespectfully when she was being positive and mature. Tyler Perry stated on video that he expresses in his movies what he has experienced in his early life. Perry said in an interview that he was never treated as a "human" as a child, and he was brutalized and molested by people who look like him. It's harsh and conflicting, but what would you expect in his art. Perry did give a positive portrayal of black men in the movie Good Deeds, for example. It must be noted that Tyler Perry has shown a grand example of how to gain resources and control in the movie industry and to work with and honor other significant black players and pioneers in the entertainment industry, including black men such as Spike Lee, who had previously openly criticized him for playing stereotypes such as Madea.
